Of the many Contra ports, the MSX version perhaps differs most notably in that taking damage is not instantly fatal. There's also significantly less horizontal scrolling due to the limitations of the system.

Even if this wasn't a speedrun, This version looks a lot easier than the NES counterpart.

That was really cool seeing that on the MSX. System seems to have sub par graphics but awesome sound. I would love to have one to play with.

This game includes Konami's SCC expansion. It features 5 wavetable channels, similar to what's in the PC Engine/TurboGrafx-16. MSX's built-in audio is provided by the AY-3-8910; it and its derivatives were in many platforms like the ZX Spectrum and the Atari ST.

Interesting how there are several more stages here after where the NES and Arcade versions of Contra end, although most of them just have a generic "target" for the boss.

"Hey, let's make a discount version of Contra, but with extra levels. Boss fights? Err, yeah, let's just end each levels with a techno-hexagon-thing on the wall. Kids love evil hexagons."

Legtimately never knew that there was an MSX version of this game. This TAS pretty much turned it into a walking simulator with a side order of short boss fights. Pretty much the antithesis of how Contra plays out for regular, inexperienced humans. xD
