This is the NES version of the first game in the popular Prince of Persia series. The hero must escape out of the palace dungeons in order to defeat Jaffar and save the princess from certain death.
eien86 ( tasvideos.org/... ) saves 56.01 seconds over the previous run ( tasvideos.org/... ) through the use of a special program that discovered new skips and optimized the run overall. A detailed list of improvements is in the submission notes ( tasvideos.org/... ).
We also have runs of the SNES ( tasvideos.org/... ), Genesis ( tasvideos.org/... ), Sega CD ( tasvideos.org/... ), and TurboGrafx-CD ( tasvideos.org/... ) ports, as well as a run that just completes the SNES training levels ( tasvideos.org/... ).

Some highlights: 3:49 - Introducing the quicksand tile 4:33 - What are doors anyway 7:29 - Ok this quicksand feature too OP pls nerf 9:00 - Just a completely normal ledge grab nothing to see here 11:30 - Uhmm thats not how I remember this level to be 14:28 - Who dis new bonehead? 14:58 - Clearly Jaffar got scared by the prince's abilities and ran away, so there is a normal guard in his position. The absolute potato that this game is, eien86 thoroughly shredded and fried it into French fires for us to enjoy!

To an extent, watching this game being spedrun in 2022 makes it look like the person in the game is actually speedrunning himself.

I am left to wonder why did the NES port developers decide to seemingly squish the aspect ratio and zoom the camera in and then compensate this by including horizontal scrolling.

Watching a TAS of this is really something else... Taking in account that this version of POP is considered one of the worst and unplayable ones 😆

I'm surprised that the NES port doesn't simply assume you have the sword after the first level (as does the PC version), and you actually have to play it to get the sword. It seems the jumping-into-enemies glitch is also gone, so he has to fight every single one of them?

Yes. This particular port does not allow you to switch sides, run away, or be knocked off. You really have to fight and kill every enemy you pull your sword out on.
