Sidenote... I was so much better at the nes video games as a young fella than now an as adult lol. I think after all these years of video game development progress, all the articulated controls and frantic camera motions... I feel like, when I often go back to the NES era of programming, repitition, rhythmic thinking, nearly mathematical thought process to the gaming style, it's is almost like it's too hard to strip back down to the NES rhythm... like, gaming progression messed us up internally lol. We were some primal, mental, mathematicians on those games back in the day. We would zone out and tune Into our brains. Now these days it's all graphics, story and and ocd. If we had so much ocd back in the nes days, we would have never been able to kick some butt on those games. P.S. I manage a local comic book/vintage toy store here, I was lucky enough to have a guy bring in an original NES to trade in for cash... it is in phenomenal condition. Has both controllers and the duck hunt hunt. The original box packaging, looks like if just got bought from a store shelf currently but it's from what, I belive 1986? Maybe a year realier? 2? Either way, it looks incredible for it's age. The inner contents like the instructions manual, advertisements, the Nintendo poster etc etc. Are all still SEALED!!! I guess he brought it in for a gramma whom had it stored for years, it once belonged to her son or nephew. I was worried to ask questions incase it had something to do with a person passing away, but the fam told me they're glad it went to someone whom will truly cherish it... which I do, that I promised then my word. So, yeah... I for sure have it set up on the shelves that my ps3, ps,4 etc etc are on... so I go back n forth playing different eras of consoles... and I often think of the different mindsets, depth of controls, and mental zone-in switches btwn the style of the eras . It's a crazy thing. A social experiment lol, thru the mindsets of eras of gaming.
I remember that back in 1991 when I was playing through this game, I remember that yellow car getting more jelly and desperate to win. When I found Trade west had screwed up on some of the programming for this game I was too through with it. Although I wish a talented rom hacker would fix it up enough and set a end point for the game so it wouldn't do this.
Thanks for the TAS, FatRatKnight!! Finally, that yellow car will know defeat on level 48!! It never ceases to amaze me how much the CPU cars cheated the hell out of you from level 24 onward IMHO. BTW: that was too funny at the end!! The green car had a clear shot at the win and it smacked right into you!! Talk about 'YA BLEW IT!!'.
As hard as this game was, you went through it like it was nothing, after all these years I finally see all the races completed and all Gold. Thanks for sharing, awesome video 💪
I totally forgot this game had weapon pick ups. I never had this for the NES and I totally sucked at the arcade version where you actually used a mini steering wheel and a gas and brake the size of a piano petal :P Thanks for the upload and good memories. Excellent playthrough :)
I would usually get to about race 40 before I tapped out while playing this game as a kid. I had no idea that every car got "yellow car ultra boost" past that point. Those fuckers were out for blood.
This game had one of the most punishing cpu on the nes. It goes from you nearly lapping them all to every moment you having to fight back each car like it is mad max: fury road.
Anyone else remember when they yellow car seemed to just give you the finger then take off and u had no chance to catch him? God Damn that would piss me off.
This game was fun but I could never get any farther than one or three rounds. I think I just sucked at it but I was like four or something 😐. I also loved all the sounds it made even if there's little music.
Rare ltd pulls this same s*** in Danny Sullivan's Indy heat. Only in that game, the other cpu cars try to screw you over also. Great work here! Justice was served.
3 trophy rows are filled on completion of level 48. When finishing level 49 it will look the same as when finishing level 48, even if you got a different trophy than on level 48, the level 48 trophy will still be blinking.
I can't find any info on the random nighttime mode on this game. I'm not even sure if I have a glitched copy or not. I keep checking RU-vid and Google with no results.
The game loops endlessly. Even when you have 48 trophies, it just starts back at the level 1 map but with the advanced car and more wet spots and oil slicks.
Ok, ok, there's maybe a chance I'm giving too much thought to something in a 30 year-old video game that doesn't matter at all 😂, but what's with all the people referring to the orange car as yellow? Look at 16:21, the flag contains yellow, the edge of the track contains yellow, the arrow is yellow, the car at the top left of the screen is ORANGE 😂
hawaiidkw It makes sense, however this is a TAS. We're not talking about reflexes and intimate knowledge of the game mechanics, this is frame by frame engineering doubled with chance manipulation. TAS usually massacres the opposition, and on hard game, float just ahead, one step away from failure. Here, cars got in front of him/her. S/he eventually beat them, but if the closest thing to a perfect player get THAT close to lose a game, the game is unfair beyond any attempt at denial. It was meant to make player fail, no matter their skill or their luck.
Contevent Exactly my point. If a computer running scripts on a frame by frame basis in a perfect scenario has issues beating something, then again it is tuned too high. I understand that many games were made to be very difficult to maximize profits from the arcades and such, but for a home console game in which the only profit can be made from it's original sale, making it impossible for a player to win is shitty design.
Wish this person went easy on the Blue and Green cars. We were brothers in arms against that yellow menace when I was a kid playing this. Yellow deserves all the smoke Just wanted to see the rest of the game.... never beat this as a 5 year old
damn almost lapped the orange car 3 times on level 22, I've lapped the field twice a few times but nowhere near a third on anybody. Is it actually possible to stay in front of the speeding vehicles by simply staying in their way as I saw on some of the later levels? I used to always just shoot them. Man you lapped 2 of the cars on level 24 too. I think I've actually earned all golds through the first 48 levels but that was over 25 years ago lol
I don't know if it's worth selling your soul for... which this person has clearly done, but like Mike Tyson says "I've never seen such finger speed before"
