Is it worth the extra $10 or so to pick up the DR05X over the original? I certainly think so! Super cool, the ability to use it as an audio interface. So much power in such a tiny unit. Check out the Tascam DR05x here: amzn.to/3alwUoF
Pues yo adquirí el otro día una unidad de DR-05V02 reacondicionada, y he rcibido la caja de una DR-05X. Espero que la unidad esté realmente nueva como parece la propia caja
My DR-05 just died after 11 yrs of occasional use. Some of the live band recordings I've made with the DR-05 over the years are pretty amazing. Looking forward to using the DR-05X.
This is such good content! You demystified my DR-05X in a mere 13 minutes and 15 seconds. I'm new to audio recording and I was feeling a bit overwhelmed. I feel much more confident now and can't wait to start working on my motovlog.
Even though I have a newly acquired DR-07x, I stumbled upon this video and it was SO helpful! Thank you so much for helping me to understand some things that I had no clue looking at this sucker. 😄 So grateful for the tutorial.
I purchased one of these for recording interviews because I like quality audio. Now I'm using it for content creation as well. The sound is amazing. Thanks for the tips on use. Especially on the input record volume!
Dude, I started watching your audio tutorials weeks ago when I bought the DR-05X, and I just now realized you're also a magician. I've been performing magic for over 20 years, and I've always wanted to be a filmmaker as well but I'm just now getting around to it. Those 2 fields have always seemed to go hand-in-hand, so it's cool to find another artist who is into both! Your tutorials have been very helpful. Looking forward to the upcoming premier on your other channel 'How to do live theater during a pandemic'. This definitely needs to be addressed. Anyway, keep up the good work, and thanks for the quality info.
Hey Brian, thanks for taking the time and effort to produce this excellent, easy to follow, video tutorial on the setup and use of the Tascam DR-05X. I used Tascam professional products about 20-years ago and I'm happy to know it manufactures a hand held recording device that I can use for dictation (to text using software not included), as well as other recording needs. Really appreciate your time.
Great video Brian. I have the Tascam DR -05. I purchased it due to your recommendation in your review of it. It is an amazing unit. It has served me well. Thank you for your work. I've gain a great deal of knowledge from your channel and look forward to new videos from you.
Thank you so much for this mate! I’ve been putting aside setting up mine and it’s been months but this video gave me everything I needed! You explained it in a clear and concise manner, especially with the settings, such a good way to educate and inform. You’ve earned a sub! Feel like I’ve found my go to sound help channel now aha! Keep up the good work!
Thanks so much! Exactly what I was looking for, and very well and easily explained. I'm new to audio (but very interested) and content creation, and now I will hit the subscribe button! Looking forward to watching and learning more from your channel!
I have one arriving today, looking forward to doing some ambient/nature recordings. The only thing I don't like, are the micro USB types. They are flimsy and when they were the 'new thing' 10-15 years ago, I had a few items break purely due to that type of usb socket! On small items like this, USB C should already be the standard, like it has been on phones for years. I'd pay the extra few coins. Great content and very helpful video, thanks.
This told me what i was missing: SD CARD READER option in USB CONNECT. All I need to do is record my band rehearsal, then upload that file to my PC for work in Audacity. The manual shows nothing about this, only about AUDIO I/F, which got me nowhere. Very simple, now that I know how. Thank you much.
Thank you very much for that video ! You explain everything very clearly and understandably. Before I found you I didn't know anything about audio settings. I love your channel :*
Just picked this model up last night. Did absolutely no research, just got it b/c it was on sale. have to say I'm extremely pleased with my results. Used it to record at a rave which, I was flying a drone to capture video.
This is one of the best tutorials on RU-vid. I just bought one for my motovlogging. 1st time I used it was a disaster. But after watching your video, I think I have the right settings. You got a new subscriber!
the dr05x also supports micro SD cards larger than 32GB (max of the original dr05) and a benefit of both is that you can USB power them with a powerbank
i got a quick question here, @9.48, how did you get the interface on the computer to use to do the recording after you plug in the usb to the tascam and to the computer? Was there a software that needed to be downloaded before?
I received my Tascam DR-05x this week. I really like the menu interface. I have a dslr that has a mono mic built in and no mic jack. So I picked up this unit from Amazon. I also plan to use it as an interface for my laptop. So I picked up a manfrotto mini tripod for when I’m at home. . I’m adding a cold shoe mount with shock mount for the top of the dslr. All recordings will have to sync in post when I’m back from what I’m doing. I may make a RU-vid video with the unit Great tutorial. Picked up a few tips so thank you for that
Thank you so much for this detailed video it’s even better than the first one without you I wasn’t gonna by the tascam or the movo, but after I saw what you were saying and you really know what you’re talking about I bought both of them ... thank you so much it was the best purchase I’ve made to my RU-vid channel 🤝
Many years ago i bought a Tascam 4 track to use making demos for the band i was in. Fast forward 20 yrs and i am trying to put together a home studio. I bought a Tascam 24 track and soon regretted that did this. I should have gotten Pro Tools. It records to a SD card and the more tracks you put on it the less recording time you have. Ive been using looper pedals for capturing song ideas but was looking at this for doing that. Appreciate your vid, thanks
Just noticed that it appears you have a Tascam 24 trck. Can you hook that to your computer so you have endless recording time? I found that using many tracks cuts down your recording time when recording to SD card
Using the overdub feature on the DR-05X was as exiting as getting my first four track. You don't have any mixing functions, but it's so easy to record right off the bat it's worth it (hit record and it asks if it's a new track or you're overdubbing on the previous track. Easy.) Sit it on your lap to record drums, layer a couple guitars & vocals: BAM.
I have a pair of Slint lav mics that I'm trying to use for dual track/stereo audio for some interviewing, but I've yet to be able to get it to record stereo.
Heads up for the uninitiated: BUY the power adapter with the recorder. I can not beleive how quickly these go through batteries. I put in two brand new TOL AA's yesterday, wathced this video and set it up, played around with it today and already its down to one bar. I'm ordering one now. For all they do maybe I should have known this but I'm a newbie, so. Its an incredible product BTW.
Hello 👋. I know this vid is old 🤣 but I was wondering if this mic can be used to do live streaming from your phone like the blue yeti can? I really want to mix it up with the mics for lives, but not even sure it's possible? I'd appreciate any help 💜
Just purchase one and the setup is easy and recorded a few conga drum tracks. Your video really helped me get started and opened my eyes to many of its capabilities. Not bad for $100 bucks
Ive been using a dr-05 for the past three or four years for all my podcast and recordings, and it is all I need. I haven't seen the ex-model, but I assume it doesn't have that much more... as I said that you just covered it. The sound quality is amazing in these things. It's all you need, I wanted to upgrade but decided it wasn't worth the extra money
I’m looking into this myself for podcasts, performances as well as field recording. I’m on a poverty budget. Do you just use the mic of the tascam or do you plug in an external mic?
You saved me life! Spent time figuring out the set up and gadgets I should buy is just exhausting and sometimes ( a lot of times) the quality is still shite😅 Thank you! And next time can you spend more time talking about the position the equipment should go or set up in a studio? That can really us ameteurs😭
Brian, love your channel. I just ordered the DR-05X and waiting for it to arrive. On the difference between WAV and MP3 @2:30, you said, "Wav is to MP3, as Raw files are to JPEGs." Did you mean to say "WAV is to Raw as MP3 is to JPEGs?" I watched your set-up guide for the older DR-05 and you said "WAV=Raw, MP3=JPEG." I know WAV is the better format, but just want to clarify. Again, love the audio content of your channel: I've learned a lot!
I seem to get "garbled" audio on playback. The are no Effects turned on. Any idea what might be wrong? It sounds ok (thru headphones) while I'm recording, but sounds a bit like martians on playback.
Hey I'd love to hear your thoughts on the Tascam DR-07X and if it is worth the extra £30 over the DR-05X. This is such a clear concise tutorial and I will watch it again if I decide to buy the Tascam DR-05X instead.
