"Bring me all the patch cables!" "All of them?!" "ALL OF THEM!"

I think my M35 has the original patch cables. I made some for my 450 but they didn't turn out that great. I also keep a lot of extra cables around for making all these videos with different consoles etc. I usually like to keep all my cables though.

I used to have this one with my Tascam 38, 1/2 inch 8 track reel to reel before the Studiomaster Trackmix 32. I’ve written to Tascam about manufacturing analog mixers and tape machines again. There’s so much fun involved.

I think I've used an M-35 before but it might have been an M-30 and this was with a 38. My first tape experiences were with a Fostex 4 track, and then a Tascam 488. Years later I had an MCI for awhile. Now I have fun with my MSR-16 and R8. I really wish they would take your advice and start making more analog gear again.

Love your mixing console videos, great stuff! :) the saturation of the M35 really put the mix together, sounds more legit.

Thank you! I enjoy making the videos and I was surprised that the M-35 sounds so good. Also surprised that it is so quiet. I expected a lot of hiss or problems. I'm always searching for gear to try out and mixing consoles are one of my favorite things. Thanks so much for your comment.

Yes, this liitle guy is impressiv. It`s funny how we tryed everything to escape that 8-track limitation, back in the days. Today it feels a bit like coming home (to me). No, I´m not stiring the pot about that boring analog vs digital war. It`s not my battle. I´m ready to use everything as long as it fun, works, and get me somewhere. Now we`re coming ful circle and the limitations of the M 35 makes you to commit without overthinking too much.

I agree. It's actually a very flexible console once you are able to get used to the features and the way it works. I mainly like it for the sound. It definitely has kind of a dry sound that is great for drums and bass. But really everything sounds pretty good through the console and it has a lot more headroom than the meters on it would suggest. I have absolutely pegged the meters when mixing through the M35 and you just don't hear any distortion.

I like this console. It does sound really good. In the next video, I recorded some drums with it.

The opening chords reminded me immediately of Luiz Carlos Borges's "Dialogo antes da morte". Recorded on a very similar desk, the M5 I commented previously. The overall sound, esp. the low end seems very similar to me as well - full and round. My G.A.S. is pinching me...

I do like the way this console sounds. In the next video, I tested out the preamps on drums. Thats cool I managed to use some music that reminds you of Luiz Carlos Borges. I think it was just something I wrote for a video demo and reused it for this test. I have recorded a lot of short song ideas for video demos. I've seen some of these Tascam mixers like the M-30 and M3 and M5 for sale for decent prices but they seem to be going up in value like a lot of vintage gear. The quality of these is very good and they should work for years and are very easy to clean and service due to the way they were built. Thanks so much for your comment.

Super cool! That's a tasty small console. BTW, which Reaper theme are you using? Thanks so much! -chaz
@TwinCreekAudio
@TwinCreekAudio 2 года назад
Thank you! It's the Imperial Reaper theme from House of White Tie. There's also a similar theme called Dead Ringer for smaller screens. This was the theme that convinced me to switch to Reaper. It looks very SSL like and is the only theme that really gets the console look right as well as usability of the DAW functions.

awesome sound....what cables did you use from the interface output to the consoles tape In?
@TwinCreekAudio
@TwinCreekAudio Год назад
They were 1/4" to RCA snakes. The M-35 has RCAs at -10 level and the Audiofire has 1/4" but is switchable from +4 to -10 so I had it set to -10 to match the console

I’m new to analog, so this might be a stupid question, however. I’m looking at buying a Tascam M216 to record through the 16 individual pre amps into my focusrite 18i20s 16 individual inputs into my DAW to EQ ,compress and record further tracks. I would then like to send those tracks back out of my DAW/18i20s outputs back into the Tascam M216 to mix further, then send the final mix back into my DAW and in the future also to a tape machine. I hope that made sense, would this be possible?
@TwinCreekAudio
@TwinCreekAudio Год назад
It's fairly easy to do. Just connect the outputs of the audio interface to different inputs on the mixing console, basically the opposite of when you're tracking. Then assign the tracks you want from the DAW to different outputs on the audio interface that go to the tape inputs of the mixing console and make sure the console is in remix mode with the tape inputs selected on the main channels and those sent to the master bus or subgroups etc. Then the mixer master outputs get recorded back into the DAW through a pair on audio interface inputs. I have a couple of videos about his to set this up. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-OlMjnQP58nU.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-RWmxkO2gnOs.html Hold that helps and thank you!

Question. The Tape returns on the right side of the console. Can you use those along with the eight channel strips in the desk and have 16 channels of summing??
@TwinCreekAudio
@TwinCreekAudio Год назад
It will work that way to an extent but not the way normally do. You can use the tape return section along with the line inputs on the main channels but the tape inputs are wired to both so only one can be used at a time.
@TheFMusician
@TheFMusician Год назад
Ok. I have one and was considering using it as a 16 channel summing mixer and/or be able to use the 8 channels of mic pres for tracking.
