Okay, so y'all will note that I say the wrong numbers in the script, but I ATTEMPT to fix it in the edit? Well, I failed to catch it all the way through. I say Dead Space 2 makes 4 times its profit back, it actually made 40 times its profit back. If anything, this should make my point stronger. Thanks to George Moura for pointing this out to me.
Just put the edit in the comment section and pin it. If it works for linus the tech man then it should work for your video. Anyways, I hope this can help. Keep up the good work.
Just wanted to say the part at 0:49 is genius. You show your other YT video to write a comment under it and incorporate the subscribe gesture so it doesnt break the flow of the video, but is still noticeable to make people sub. Havent seen that incorporated more fluid before, props to you.
i tried playing it thinking it would be a sort of linear game and i just got a panic attack the second i found out I'll have to find cremate the demon myself :D
The stupidly underrated channel is to video essay channels what some masterful Mongolian guy making incredible paintings in a cave deep in the mountains that only 3 people from his village will ever see is to the art world
hi new channel fan here, and i’m usually too shy to comment anything ever, but i feel compelled to let you know that your work is some of the most insightful, well-communicated, and inspiring content i’ve had the pleasure of consuming! i’ve talked to multiple friends and even professors about your videos because of the way you seamlessly connect game design to the human experience; thanks for sharing some truly great work!
Oh my god, this completely nails it! I have never enjoyed any horror games at all until I played the Resident Evil 2 remake, and I think it's because everything is so "gamified" that I am fully focused on the mechanics and the scares have a chance to make a proper impact
As much as I like watching horror letsplays (sometimes) I'd never actually play any of those. Heck, I'm scared even watching this video sequence without sound
In his defense, he probably made the math while he said "60 millions", in this case, the result is indeed 4 times the cost. But the correct numbers, which is 6 millions, was only corrected in the video.
8:35 Maybe it's due to decades of playing games, glitching them, modding them, and speed running them, but horror games don't do anything for me. Horror films don't do anything for me either because I watch a lot of them, so I'm especially not scared or creeped out by a 3D model. Every horror game I've played just feels like a bogged down action game or some kind of puzzle game with a creepy aesthetic. Five nights at Freddy's was one of the few to actually give me a reaction just because the game itself is very difficult and takes a lot of focus, so the jump scare comes as a surprise. But after like two or three then they're no longer effective and just feel like a classic game over screen
Can we not keep giving credit to Soren Johnson's dumbass quote, please? Entire swathes of gamers and Twitch streamers finding their own fun in games irrespective of the possibility of "optimizing the fun" out of the game prove it to be wrong. If a player does it, it's a problem with the player, not the game, and forcing solutions to it just makes a less fun experience for everyone
