Time to make this comp a fully Aussie game with every state playing now need to make it even with 20 teams gotta being in a Canberra team. As for how tassie coming into the game in 2028 altho what Gerard said would be nice afl did say the team will probably won’t play in the stadium in their first season honestly I was hoping tassie would be in the comp by 2025-26 but if they start building the stadium now then yeah

Why not northern territory though?? Canberra is neither but enough nor will there be enough support for a full team in that territory The northern territory is far overdue for some recognition in the afl
@BDub2024
@BDub2024 Год назад
GWS is really a semi Canberra team. You just need to have a couple of teams playing out of there, so Giants get more exposure there. Say 3 home and 2 away. You can tee it up so that GWS play Melbourne both home and away in Canberra, So no disadvantage to either club on the field. The members and corporates won't like it, but AFL would just have to top it up. Suns home and away at Canberra is another option.
@theflyingdropbear2009
@theflyingdropbear2009 Год назад
no need for a Canberra team, since GWS are already a pseudo-Canberra team anyway, since GWS' development zone is already in the limits of Canberra. if anything, there are only two choices left, Darwin, or looking towards New Zealand, a nation that has played AFL longer than most clubs in Australia.
@andrewgreig7761
@andrewgreig7761 Год назад
GWS turns into the Canberra team, the Greater Western Sydney supporter experiment has failed. Then create a NT team then it will truly be the AFL. Although an NT team shoudn't be introduced until they have established a stadium and development exactly how Tasmania has done.
@BDub2024
@BDub2024 Год назад
@@andrewgreig7761 Giants should be West Sydney and Canberra combined. Its easy to increase the games in Canberra. They play the Bullies twice in Canberra per year (home and away). Gold Coast do the same (home and away). Suddenly that's four matches in Canberra. GWS could even host Sydney in Canberra. Suddenly that's five matches in Canberra and only three home matches. NT will never have the players, supporters or corporate money. Obviously N Queensland has no interest in AFL, otherwise you could go with a northern Australian team. But not going to happen. More likely to get a team in Perth before then. Problem is that Peel while fast growing doesn't have a stadium and I'm not convinced they have a passion for AFL watching. Maybe playing AFL... maybe prawning and kayaking... maybe fishing... but not watching it. Then Joondalup to the north is full of Brits and S AFricans literally. So hard to get an AFL licence there either. But is the obvious next spot. But even then I'd recommend a relocated team rather than a new team.

I think that 19 will go to 20 soonish. There are talks of a third SA team coming in. It's not too many, it just reduces double ups in the fixtures and probably evens things out. With 20 teams, for a 23 game season you play everyone once and then have four extras so you can play your biggest rival home and away. Then fill the remaining three on a rotation basis as they currently do. It still reduces perceived unfairness as some teams will play cellar dwellers twice in a season. For example, St Kilda's double ups this season are North, Hawthorn, Gold Coast, Richmond, Carlton and Brisbane. On present form, they're heavy favourites to win twice against those first 4. 16 very gettable points for them. Collingwood on the other hand are doubling up against Adelaide, Carlton, Geelong, Essendon and Brisbane. On present form they'll be favourites, but not by much - any of those sides could steal a win. So in theory St Kilda have an easier path to 24 points in those double ups. Not that it's easy to predict how these respective teams would have looked necessarily, but if you have less double ups overall then you automatically reduce that issue.

Tasmania is the least likely state to be associated with sharks spotted along its coast. Too cold. Plus, there's already the NRL's Cronulla Sharks. The Tassie Devil is the perfect localised mascot. Anyone as much as partially educated knows that one of Tasmania's most recognised icons is an animal and has nothing in common with Demons.

This would be a total waste of money. Tasmania's population is only double the population of Ballarat's and unlike everywhere else, which is expected to double in 50 years, they are only projected to add 10k more. It just won't be enough to fund it without taking money from elsewhere. People are letting their emotions get in the way of logic. If Tasmanians don't like it then tough luck, should've had more babies! I hope the team CEO's have common sense in the end and do not let this jeopardization of the league take place.

By your logic then Geelong should be dumped from the AFL! Hypothetically if Geelong were trying to enter now you'd be a naysayer too!

Tassie will struggle and putting all the emphasis on a Hobart stadium is a mistake in a divided State. Remember half the state will end up barracking for their former AFL team anyway. Which means even less supporters and members. Really it needed to be a team like North that could play most home games in Tassie and the most away in Melb. Be based in Tassie.

Relocate Northeroos. Then split into two conferences. Eagles, Dorkers, Crows, Powerpies, Geelong, Saints, Melb, Rich... on other conference Coll, Ess, Carlton, Syd, Giants, Brizzy, Suns, Tassieroos (green blue and white stripes). 16 matches within your conference. Then 9 against the remainder. 24 normal matches plus Gatherround to make it 25. Split the Vic teams whatever way works and that could change. But the non Vic teams would be fixed.

@@BDub2024 That's the AFL's bullshit narrative about a stadium. Getting taxpayers to build THEIR infrastructure! The Tassie team will be popular regardless of playing at Bellerive/York Park or a fancypants expensive new stadium. Just a weird blackmail attempt by the AFL on not just Tassie taxpayers, but ALL taxpayers (since it's relying on fed money).

Tasmania’s population is virtually exactly the same as the Gold Coast and a much more AFL slanted population at that

Albanese is such a hypocrite. He says the point in Hobart is an eyesore so then goes on to say that there should be apartments there and businesses. Wow that should really improve the location. How about beautiful parkland instead.

Lets prepare now for a half empty stadium every week, and another struggling team asking for handouts. That way we won't be surprised.

We just need more non Vic teams in. So the power shift moves away from Vic teams that corrupt the system and lead to unfair outcomes.
