She actually doesn’t use the script at all. The woman is amazing.

She both knows her lines (avoids cue-cards), can drive a scene and have an amazing presence with small improvements on-air. It is nuts how good she is, sad some movies aren't able to fully explore it.

I'm positive she was supposed to drink the bottle, but there's no way she could have planned the air bubble that caused it to squirt all over her. As soon as she tipped up the bottle, the air in the top went inside the bottle itself, but as soon as she squeezed it, the compressed air forced half the bottle out of the spout and all over her face. You can see her pause for a micro-second to get used to it, and then she just leans into it.

Not really, you couldn't even see their faces when it happened.

EclipseInID 2017 dude they make her a big part of the skits she’s in because 1. She is The Host 2. They think she’s competent. Nobody said anything about weight or how she’s a woman. People think she’s funny and you don’t have to think that but don’t try to act like you can read everyone’s minds because you’re doing a pretty sh*t job.

@@justayoutuber1906 That’s only partially true. There are a lot of SNL sketches where actors somewhat improvise. Michaels obviously doesn’t want people going off the rails, but he does allow for some improv and last minute changes. Some examples that come to mind are the Garth and Kat segments (which are all almost entirely improvised), and the Short Term Memory Loss Theater where Bill Hader in an interview spoke about how Fred Armisen intentionally wore a goofy jacket last minute that he didn’t wear in rehearsal just to spice up the scene and maybe break Hader. 😄 Armisen also changed up his delivery of “Whaaaaat are you doing here??” in the Californians between the rehearsal and the live version. Now obviously the show is 95% scripted beyond that. And Michaels doesn’t like unexpected improv that doesn’t gel with the sketches or flow of production. So I think it’s a case where he’s ok with slight improv, particularly if its someone he trusts or thinks is talented in that area, but tries to steer clear of improvised lines that might disrupt the timing of the sketches and definitely doesn’t like if guests spring major surprises that cause controversy (e.g. Sinead O’Connor ripping up the photo of the Pope, Andy Kauffman, etc)

McCarthy actually wrote this sketch when she was with Second City, so she knew it well.

I was just watching this and it was my exact thought she reminds me so much of the good times with Chris Farley. They both do that little extra in the skits that the others just don't do and they pull it off. Would have loved to have seen Chris and Melissa in a skit together... a shame what happened.

I'm wondering if she kind of has the outline and phrases to hit, but improvs it through. Watch Arlene, Pizza Business, and P.J. She's the only host, in all of her segments, where she's not looking off to the side reading cue cards. I've never seen this with any host OR any cast member. I would love to ask someone on the show about her, because it's just unbelievable.
