While it's a neighborhood, not a borough, I'd probably throw in the Little Italy by Audrey Saunders: 2 ounces (60 ml) rye, ½ ounce (15 ml) Cynar, ¾ ounce (22.5 ml) sweet vermouth

That sounds really interesting. I've not had a Manhattan or any of the variations, but they all sound wonderful! I'll need to give this a spin soon!

My favorite variation on the Manhattan is the Perfect Rob Roy. Cheers.

You have it right! A Rob Roy served up in chilled Martini glass with a single cherry and a lemon twist is truly an epicurean experience. I like to indulge and ask for an expensive scotch every time I order one. My personal favorite is the Macallan 12 or Macallan 15, a good fine line from my favorite house that’s better than the standard scotch bartenders like to use but that doesn’t make my cocktail cost $100😂

@@Tennisisreallyfun if I'm feeling fancy, I use Oban. Skip the cherry, though, as I have a sensitivity to stone fruit.

@@jaydub2971 And see, this is what I love about cocktails, there’s so much room for personal preferences once you get into it, even the garnish! I guess the sensitivity to stone fruit still counts with olives, cured fruit though they may be (😂), but if you have a friend at least who likes olives and Negronis, tell them to order one garnished with a lemon twist and with some green Martini olives dropped in (just the pure ones though, not stuffed with anything). Trust me, it’s a beautiful flavor combination😉

Here in New England...A small distillery up in Vermont makes a lovely Maple Rye and Maple Liqueur...added to sweet Vermouth and orange bitters makes a nice Maple Manhattan 🍸...perfect for a crisp fall evening.🍁 (or breakfast...I don't judge!😂) . I'll have to look into your variations they sound good!

Sounds like a great add to cold coffee for a nice breakfast bev in the spring. Been meaning to try the maple offering from Knob Creek, available here in California where I am. Love me some maple season…👍🏻

Love the variations video and then comparing at the end, very cool 😁 I'll always have a soft spot for a Red Hook. First time to Melbourne, we pulled up a stool at The Everleigh, after harassing the staff all night (ex-kiwis lol) I saw a bottle of Cynar on the shelf, and since I had a bottle sitting at home unused, I asked what you could make with it. The dude whipped this up for me and I loved it, he then wrote the recipe on a card, even with a hand drawn picture of how to serve it! I still have in my mementos pile. That's how you get a loyal customer 😂

my family's "manhatten" formula is 1 part bourbon, 1 part sweet vermouth, and a couple of syrupy cherries. and from all the cocktail channels i've seen, it's not anywhere near a proper drink, but it's our favorite

I use that ratio with a high rye or straight rye at 100proof or better. Add a dash or two of cherry or orange bitters, and a amaraño cherry. We call it a “High Ryser”.

Made the Greenpoint based on your recipe here, except I substituted the yellow chartruese with green chartruese. What a banger!!!

Always look forward to your videos. I have learned so much about spirits and cocktail making. Thank you. Oddly, the Greenpoint (in my experimentation) works very well with a single malt (unpeated). I have tried both Scotch and American single malts. Maybe give it a try.

#1 - I recently procured some Amer Picon, tried the Brooklyn, then did some experiments to see what I could cook up as an Amer Picon alternative - now that I've got access to the real thing. My current best attempt is Cynar and orange bitters - but you've got to use less in the cocktail - perhaps 7-8ml. #2 - Hobart's Evolve bar used to serve something called the Green Hook, which was a Red Hook with a dash or two of Laphroaig. That little wrinkle makes a world of difference IMHO. Sadly it's not on their list anymore, but I was lucky enough to get my hands on the recipe ;)

Last time I went in the American Bar in The Savoy, I asked for a Manhattan (Not the one they sell at £5k!) and they served it with a MASSIVE block of ice - WTF!

If they’re going to vary that much from an actual Manhattan, why not just give them a new name?
