Don't worry about GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) designation! It's applied to all permitted food additives, including common table salt. It is to be kept in mind that most main food constituents and additives can cause an allergy that can sometimes be lethal, the only requirement to be considered safe for food is that things don't show obvious toxicity in normal amounts to your liver or other organs, don't accumulate in your body so as to cause repeat and sustained damage after you stop consuming them, such things. It's assumed that the person eats responsibly and if something seems like it's not good for them, stops eating it. I agree with your hate of vinegar though, i certainly do. I wish they would replace it with citric acid in all cleaning agents too. Its reaction with calcium salts is just HORRIBLE. I don't know what "tobasco" is, never tasted it. I can however eat lemons and onions all day, no problem at all. There's a trick with the lemons, you have to eat the rind, i'm sure you already know that, but your friend apparently does not. If you want to not be hospitalized after a bar bet which involves drinking vinegar, i recommend first measuring out baking soda and testing it against your vinegar with litmus strips or just by taste, and drinking that amount of baking soda solution right later. Now not everybody needs this, but some people more than others, and i have a history of gastric ulcer. In fact i cook a lot with baking soda to fight the various acids in foods.

2:19 I'm the same way about garlic cloves that are only lightly roasted or just marinated in oil without roasting or anything like that. I mean, I grew up in a very Jewish household, though (in New York, so bonus points for that), so I've grown pretty accustomed to garlic in most forms.
