There are so many different factors that go into growing mangoes that even the same variety grown in the U.S., Mexico, Indonesia, India, and etcetera are all going to taste a little different. Also, the most commonly found variety of mango in the U.S. can be slightly bitter, even if proper ripening protocols are followed. Overall, I agree with Shane on his assessment of our common grocery store mango. However, the best mangoes are found in Asian markets or specialty food stores. Usually there are more varieties of mango as well when it's in season.
