I've only had one once... I was about 7 and stole it from the supermarket because I knew my mom would never buy anything that weird. The occasional pineapple was about as exotic as fruit got in our household. I felt REALLY guilty, but it was also very good. I should maybe buy some now that I'm a grown up with my own money. :P
Lychees are awesome! When they are fresh they taste much better. There is a lot here in Cambodia where my other family lives. There is also a lot more exotic fruits in Cambodia.
I had fresh lychee while I was in Thailand, I miss it so much. It was one my favorite things I tried while I was there and brings back fond memories of the orphans I worked with. Thanks for the video Emmy, I loved it!
Emmy, I have totally fallen in love with your channel! You are so brave and adventurous... Many things a lot of us are with our taste buds. Thanks for being an inspiration!
I recently bought a can of these from Walmart for about $2.69. It was the first time I've tried them. They are definitely unlike any fruit that I have ever tasted. Not that I've tasted many "exotic" fruits, but they were definitely quite pleasant. Floral and grape-like in texture.
+carla pereira You need to try the Atemoia fruit, or it can be called as african pride, it's so delicious, it's very common here in Brazil, sry for the bad english =)
I grew up in a small town in Wisconsin, in the 90s. A pomegranate was considered so "exotic " my classmates at the lunch table were scared and refused to try it. Lol, thank God for the internet, we get to set new food goals everyday!
When I was a kid I never had fresh pomegranate. I had tasted grenadine, which I loved. Later, bottled pomegranate juice become popular, which I also loved. And finally fresh pomegranates have become available to buy year round!
I had Lychee the first time in Culinary school, one of the students had brought some for a food tasting "party" the whole class had. I was a bit weirded out by them at first, but after the first taste, I was hooked. I fell in love with them, they are really good. Definitely recommend them.
Love this series so much im watching the whole Playlist, so happy to have found your channel emmy. Thank you for creating content you're such a beautiful person and soul. Much appreciated for all you do making strangers days with your videos
I love fresh Lychee I've never tried the canned ones and never would! I like to refrigerate them before eating yummm perfect in the summer and really satisfying
Lychee is the fruit of choice for my twin brother and myself!!!! He always says if you want to buy me a gift by me some Lychee fruit preferably in the canvas it can get quite messy when peeling them! Now I have a craving for them. I'm sure you know already but you and one other RU-vid channel are my absolute favourite.
Yummy Lychee... In Italy we have them a lot especially at Christmas and we have them after our meal on Christmas Eve as a light sweet which is pleasant after eating a huge dinner of pasta and fish...
Yes. I've had lots of fresh Lychee but never ever tinned!! I grew up on Vancouver, BC. I ate these at least a couple times of year in my own family and someone would often bring a bag to share in the playground.
they have these at a fruit stand near my college n i've always wondered wth they were and tasted like but now tat i c, im gonna get them to try out so yaay thank you
Love Lychees! I tried them when visiting Miami Florida. There were many trees filled with that beautiful fruit. One of my favorite fruits! Thanks for sharing😍
I've watched all of your videos , it's interesting , and it's always making me hungry watching your videos it makes me wanna try themm !! And i really want to try lychee oh gosh i love your video
I’ve had lychee soaked in vodka. My friend’s mom used them in her Halloween-themed drink and put blueberries in them to replicate eyeballs. She also had syringes filled with cherry juice. They were great. Not many people dared try them so I was happy. The texture is very grape-like but the flavor is sweeter and stronger. Also firmer. So much better than grapes
I looooove lychees!! My dad owned a produce company and would have these in the warehouse and he'd peel them open for me and let me eat them when I was super young. When i get boba I always get lychee jelly inside of it, and when I visit Hawaii, I always buy them fresh off the side of the road!
When I was a little girl my mom packed these for me as part of lunch while I was going to camp, and I just fell in love with them, especially the seeds. I'm glad you think they're beautiful too! :) I know this is a little late to post, but I just really love Lychees!
Im from Hawaii and I actually have a couple of Lychee and Longan trees in my yard. I absolutely love these fruits they are super delicious and very good ice cold or even frozen with a glass of coconut water
A friend of mine made a snack with lychees: soak in soya sauce for a half hour or so, then roll in brown sugar, wrap in bacon then bake in oven for 15min or until its golden brown and crispy!
We eat lychee a lot in Hawaii. We pronounce it the Chinese way in the islands. Some people have lychee trees in their yards. I absolutely love the stuff!
When I was little I visited my dad and he had boug some. They were soo delicious! I used to peel them then eat one half and remove the seed then eat the other half. I love them, they are really yummy ok! Try them!!
I have never heard of these until today, a friend over seas told me about them. I kinda want to try them but I am from the southern us and never seen them before
Sticky, sticky, sticky!! Love you Emmy! I've tried fresh ones before - one of my best friends is Chinese, and she insisted that I try them. They were too sweet for my liking, but the flavour's great :)
Great job explaining. I didn't know which part to eat. Found them in the local Walmart next to raspberries, they looked like strawberries in the plastic container. The produce department didn't know what the hell to tell me about them. They peel very easy and have a pleasant sort of grape texture with a papaya like taste.
I adore lychees! My parents got me to try as many different types of food as possible when I was a kid, and one of my favourite fruits was lychee (along with physalis and pomegranate). I need to buy some more, I think. This video has made me crave them!
We call them Leechu here in Bangladesh ^__^ They're absolutely wonderfulllllll and definitely one of my favourite fruits!! Glad you did a video on them
I had a lychees in 2nd grade. Was a game changer. It is my 2nd favorite fruit. My first is a native fruit to El Salvador called the quenepa (don't know how to spell it correct if I'm wrong)
I've mostly eaten fresh Lychee. But the one time I had it canned, it was snowing outside, so I took a glass with me, and with a bit of patience waiting for the snow to fall, I made a real snow cone with the syrup from the bottom of the can. It was so delicious.
OOH LYCHEE! my parents grow them in our yard and we also grow a fruit somewhat similar to it (called Logan) not as sticky as lychee, but its so sweet and very good!
We have a tree at home (currently: Tuxpan, Veracruz, Mexico) You should try it cold. Not frozen, but cold. Like in the freezer... it´s even better i promise
el problema es como darnos nuestras direcciones y no hacerlo publico... pero si, si vives en algun estado tropical o con sol y agua se da y BIEN (creeme) ;)
I agree! I've had them both room temperature and chilled, and I prefer them chilled. (Well, I prefer most fruits chilled, but IMO, they taste better that way.) I'm so envious of all these people who have lychee trees. I wonder if it would be hard to grow one here in California.
ThinzarThePyro actually... we have a house in LA and a lychee tree te as well... the weather allowed us to have it (it's not as big and desn't give as mush as the one in MExico though) the thing is to hide the seeds when you cross borders... lol
The first time I bought them ( that was around the year 1786), I got them canned and my mom asked me if I bought a can of cow's eyes. But right away I was hooked and I never stopped eating them, although I now prefer the fresh ones! Thanks ever so much for this delicious video, Emmy.
Have you ever tried permisons??? Theyre soooo good and kinda exotic to the states. I only got to know then when i was in New Zealand and have only found them a handful of times here in the states. All you do is peel the skin with a knife and eat!! Very good though!!
I just tried them fresh for the first time today. The packet said to wash them before eating, so (naturally) I thought you ate the skin as well. Not so nice doing it that way haha! But then I found your video, thankfully, and have tried them properly now. Thanks for sharing your video with us, and for putting me on the right lychee track :)
In Mandarin its pronounced "lee-zi" or "lee-zir" with the 'i' being a short vowel sound, not long as in "lee", Cantonese its "lai-chee", which is where the English lychee or litchi is probably from.
Good news for all lychee-lovers here, Vietnam's lychee has finally been able to hit the States' market after so many years. I've tasted many lychees yet Vietnam's lychee is the MVF (F stands for "fruit"). Golf ball sized, bright red, small pit, super sweet and juicy. I can get 2 lbs for under a dollar here in Vietnam. Don't know about the price of it in the US yet; maybe it will hover around $4-$6/ lbs. I can consume 4lbs of lychee in one meal. It's soooooooooooooo delicious
I eat lychee every summer! I buy them from the Asian markets. Two places order extra because they know I'll buy the twelve pound containers every week! Lychee is life!
In Hawaii it's pronounce the same as the chinese. It's a local favorite. I grew next to a family who had a farm we'd get fresh Lychee all the time. It's part of my childhood. It's especially good after being chilled in the freezer.
