Today I tasted a very traditional Norwegian cheese... very different to say the least. (it's called f***ed cheese if said wrong)

You got pult ost, and you got pultost. Both things smells bad, but the first thing is for pervert

Omg the first three minutes of this video is just painful. You can see in your eyes you have no idea what you're in for. I grew up with a father stinking up the breakfast table every morning with this infernal cheese. It took 15 years for me to like it. Too bad the only guy who could make decent pultost in Norway has retired. I have not eaten it in five years. None of that storebought crap is edible, you need to find a farmer who makes it himself. Good luck though, I've yet to find a new one.

I think the quest to find good homemade pultost is one I'll have to pass on. It's definitely an experience I'm not interested in repeating. :-P

My favorite sandwich spread :) But then again, i grew up with it, that particular type you've got there is from my local area. But the absolute best way to eat pultost is on fresh bread with a layer of real butter, and the pultost on top. Alternatively, you can try the Hedmark variation, the dry one, it does not smell as bad as the spreadable one, and is a bit milder on taste, i would guess that one is more of an entry-level pultost. Also, the spreadable pultost is really good with leftover potatoes from dinner, pretty common here :)

I will definitely try it with the potatoes. Something tells me that it will be better warm.

Lol, I'm a Norwegian and I have never tried it. I guess it's kind of a local or regional thing, not a universal Norwegian tradition.

I can't say I recommend it. :-P

I personally love Pultost! I will never forget arriving in Norway for the first time in 2018 for a month. It was served this at breakfasts everyday but the granular type without caraway. The color was translucent, unlike most cheese. Also served with Pultost was real butter, dark rye bread, active bacteria sour cream, and lots of fresh berry homemade spreads made of blueberry, lignon berry or cloud berry. Sometimes we put shaved horse, sheep or salmon on it. It is truly delicious. It smells not fanicful at all, but the taste is clean and delicious. Important Note: It is really about marrying it with the right foods, much like many other condiments, which are not the staple of a sandwich. Better to treat it as a condiment, not a staple. I became very fond of it. It is also HIGHLY nutritious with a lot of other vitamins and minerals.

The løiten pultost, the one you are testin, are the strongest one. Try the one from Gudbrandsdalen. its more griney and sweeter.

You start with bread and meieri-smør , then pultost and then meieri-smør atop, do not use peanøtt-butter.

You should try nøkkelost. Tastes way better! And that also contains caraway seeds :)

I think you should have spread some butter on the bread first, and then a rather thin layer of pultost. My father used to have butter both under and over his pultost.

Oh man, I remember watching a show as a kid and basically there were some children trying to take back a snow fortress they had made that some bad kids had taken, and they attacked by throwing pultost at them ... and the bad kids ran away because pultost smells so bad. That's how bad it is 😂
@AMERiNORGE

That would definitely do the trick. Pultost does not have a fun smell.

Have you tried 'gammelost'/'gamalost'? It translates 'old cheese', is very low fat and healthy. Not for children's palates!
@atlekristiansen4975
@atlekristiansen4975 6 лет назад
I have already commented on the Gamalost-video that I don't LOVE gamalost, even though I like it. Pultost, on the other hand, I LOVE. Especially the spreadable type (which I see you've got there), in which you notice the flavor better, in my opinion. The dry kind is the one I'd rather store a couple of years past it's expiration date to finally open the box to the best kind of pultost ever. Actually, I think I have a box here which is 5 years past it's date. Mmmmmmmm...

most norwegian have never tasted this - but it can be nice on good bread and butter - butter is imporant and good bread is important . Your bread is wrong, and the lack of butter does not help.

This is hilarious! I really enjoyed this video... I am watching with my nose wrinkled up (as I did with the Blodpølse video)! I think I'd try things without smelling them first, but I don't think I'll be trying pultost if I come to Norway. I don't like caraway much and smelly cheese is on my "no" list ... (I wonder if Lutefisk smells as bad there as it did when my grandma made it in North Dakota ususally on holidays). I am going to look and see if you have a video trying it. I am not a very adventurous eater and tend to eat a lot of pastries, bread and cheese when I am traveling. Knowing that "OST" is cheese, I may have stumbled across this accidentally when buying a snack... good to know I would want to avoid this particular "ost"...! :-) Thanks for sharing!

I like the intro - but would be neat with the flags on the letters - that's probably superdifficult, though,haha. I was so excited to see this today, I have been hoping you would try this, haha! It was very common where I grew up,so. I was used to the grainier type - didn't even know about this type! It does taste better if you add red bell pepper, and butter and drink milk to it :) Best episode yet!
@AMERiNORGE
@AMERiNORGE 9 лет назад
ooh I like that idea of adding flags on the letters. I know it's possible, I just need to figure it out. I'm glad you enjoyed this one. I'll see if eating it with butter and bell pepper helps. I don't feel right just throwing it out.

Hahahaha great reaction! Nice new intro! You know it's a well known thing in Norway that nothing(literally) is more interesting to a Norwegian than what people from other countries think about us(Norwegian newspapers talks about this funfact quite often) maybe due to it happens so rarely because of our size, so I'm sure that your channel has a great potential of becoming really big here. If you keep on posting these videos it actually might take you way furtherer than you might expect. Keep up the good work! (and please try rakfisk:))

I had to write pultost on my shopping list now. Haven't had it in years. Growing up, it was one of my favourites. I'd say I loved it, but I definately ate it partially to annoy my brothers, who really hated it. In my experience, this is a spread that mostly older people eat, like 70-80...90 years old. I know it's common to lose the sense of taste as one gets old, and I'm thinking that may be why older people like it. The taste (and smell) is so strong. Even if you think food in general is tasteless, that'd be hard to say about this one. I see this video is 5 years old now, and you don't upload a whole lot anymore, but I really enjoy your videos. I've got a few more queued up, including your latest from last year, so I guess I'll see what you're up to. Luckily I've got more to watch, but I hope you will upload some more at some point. Take care, hope you're doing well.
