With all the talk of Walla Walla Syrah & Cabernet Sauvignon rise to excellence, and rightly so, you shouldn't overlook some of the up and coming outliers and the Tertulia Cellars Carmenere, 2012 certainly qualifies as one.
Carmenere, a grape that saw its demise, along with others, at the hands of phylloxera in 1867, found its way to Chile where it thrives today. But it doesn't stop there, the grape enjoying a new found popularity in Washington state. I caught up with Walla Walla vintner Ryan Raber of Tertulia a bit back to discuss and taste their 2012 Carmenere and I'm so happy to say that its well worth the effort to track some down.
