Few people who are great are great people as well. Tatiana Nikolaeva was great in every way. Thank God we have these (Oh, so few) recordings of her greatness. Her playing is filled with nobility and wisdom and the unmistakable beauty of excellence. Thank you Nikolaeva, thank you.
Wow! Nikolaeva was SO important in the creation, performance and recording of Shostakovich's Preludes and Fugues that we might forget her contributions in much different music. This is a marvelous piece (and performance) in its own right, and one that young pianists might learn if they're not yet ready for Chopin's Barcarolle, which requires more maturity.
