If it's pure BJJ/ADCC maneuvers, my money's on Charles. But in MMA, I just don't see how Charles overcomes the few, but important, assets & skills Islam has over him: better vision ... better head & body movements ... hardest guy to land significant strikes against ... next level wrestler ... elite (no degree needs to be mentioned) BJJ skills ....elite Muay Thai just like Charles own Muay Thai but a Muay Thai style that is much more fluid (smooth elbows & knees, powerful leg, body & head kicks, etc).... elite Judo grips/clinch & throws... next level positional control (as Tatiana mentioned here)... brute strength... second nature/smooth leg locking prowess... fence using as a tool/a tactical approach... And while people are impressed with Charles unsurpassed submission records at the UFC, as we should be, Charles himself also has been subbed 3 times & KOed 4 times. Islam has ZERO sub loss & only 1 KO loss in his 2nd fight at the UFC. Statistically speaking, the Sub & KO wins & losses of Charles & of Islam are identical: in 42 fights, Charles has 21 subs; that's 50%. Adding 3 sub losses, his Sub wins down to 43%. In 23 fights, Islam has 10 sub wins; that's exactly 43%, too! Charles 9 KO wins + 4 KO losses means his net KO wins are 11.9%. Islam has 4 KO wins & 1 KO loss, so his net KO wins (& losses) are 13%. More or less identical. Lastly, whereas Charles absorbs 3.18 significant strikes per minute, Islam only absorbs 0.84 significant strike per minute. When you permutate these, I just don't see too many ways Charles could win, UNLESS Islam makes a big mistake... when he goes for a take down... such as putting his head in Charles guillotine. Islam did in the Wade fight; Khabib did in the Poreir fight: both Islam & Khabib tend to make those mistakes. Against strikers & less skilled BJJ guys, they're okay; make a mistake like that against someone like Charles, it's game over. But the thing about Islam is, he doesn't have to take you down via Greco-Roman or folkstyle wrestling, of level changing; he could easily do it using his elite Judo, from a clinched situation where both fighters are standing, each having a grip on the another; this will allow Islam to easily take someone down using the toss, footsweep, or balancing skills he has over others, without any danger to him, like level changing would. If you do a level change against Charles, he could EASILY snap a guillotine on you & that's pretty much it!

Thing is: Oliveira won't be afraid of the takedown. He knows how to fight AND finish his opponents from the bottom position. Islam will have to be extra careful when he's on top of Oliveira. Islam knows he's not fighting the usual nobodies that he beat so far.

It is not like he was a kid rookie with no expirence. The blueprint to beat oliveira is there. A Sambo guy who's physically strong and keeps his body small on the ground and does not extend his body, which makes it harder for oliveira to get a submission, is not a good match up for oliveira. Oliveira can do good against folkstyle wrestlers. Islam is not folkstyle. Ialam's Combat sambo, jiu-jitsu and judo is a problem for oliveira
