These 2 were so promising back then even though she's clearly a stronger skater than he is. I wonder they could've pushed for world medals before Dubova sent them away back to Russia shortly after these worlds.
in one interview Zhulin mentioned that during one of Navka & Gezolian' first international competition (in north America) Gezolian run into some stupid problem with police. Russian federation wasn't happy about it and stopped supporting them (and that's why they have to represent Belarus, which of course could not support them as strong as Russian federation did). why exactly did Dubova send them away he did not say, but I red somewhere that Gezolian did not like if his partner had a relationship with someone else but him (and Navka did fell in love with Zhulin) - so it seems like this soft opera between Dubova' pupils was quite complicated one on so many levels)
@@MsRumex Oh wow, I've never heard about that in regards to Gezolian. I did once hear a rumor that Gezolian once beat Navka up. I have no idea if that's true though. But I had once read that Dubova found out about the affair between Zhulin and Navka shortly after the 1994 Worlds. And so to protect Usova, she sent Navka & Gezolian away back to Moscow. When Navka & Gezolian resurfaced in the 1994-1995 season, they looked out of shape, their skating looked stiff and stilted, and they were even skating the exact same free dance. They fell down the rankings at Worlds and they broke up soon afterwards. Both skaters drifted away from Dubova and Navka (much like Klimova, Ponomarenko, Grishuk, and Platov) managed to recover and became an Olympic champion under a different trainer!
@@gk891 How he managed to have not one but two affairs in such close quarters I'll never understand. Not to mention Oksana and Tatiana were both about 19 years old during the affairs. Ick, Zhulin.
