Join me for some superbly extra handmade lace shenanigans.
Would it have been much easier to buy a piece of lace to fit my project that would look approximately 999 times fancier?
Yes.
Are we still going to sit here in all our "free time" tatting lace for a deadline?
Also yes.
Excellent channel for all things tatting, including the pattern I am using:

If you require more details on the finer points of tatting? Head on over to Frivole's channel - the very place I learned how to make the exact edging used in this video! ru-vid.com

Oh, I think you put the finger on why I struggle so much with tatting. Thank you. Also, the cape looks great! The edging is subtle but classy.

I love to tat! I was tatting waiting for an appointment, an older woman with her elderly mother were there. The daughter asked the mom quietly what I was doing, she said, she's tatting, it's a dying art, don't you know... I love keeping the old crafts alive. Beautiful work!

Oh, that is such a fun story! Thank you! I really like tatting for how portable it is and how little equipment it requires.

I just discovered your videos and have been greatly enjoying them. The cape looked nice without the lace and stunning with it. I learned to tat in the 1980s and have a suggestion for you if you ever tackle another large tatting project. Tatting is most efficient if you maintain your grip on your shuttle as long as possible. If you hold your shuttle lightly between your thumb and index finger, you can skim the shuttle into the loop thread by just letting the loop thread run between your thumb and the shuttle. Then to bring the shuttle back out of the loop, forming half of the knot, let the shuttle lead with the back end of the shuttle; skim the thread between your finger and the shuttle, then pull to flip the knot. The difference from the way you tat in this video is that you let go of the shuttle in order to turn the shuttle to lead it out of the shuttle from the same end you used to enter the loop. Shuttles are designed so that you don't have to do this--you can lead with either end of the shuttle and it is more efficient to use both ends of the shuttle to lead into and then out of the loop. If you can find a shuttle with a point at one end, you can maintain your hold on your shuttle while joining picots so that the only time you have to let go of the shuttle is when you have to unwind another length of thread. My guess is that if you can figure out this efficiency of movement from my description or from a video, you could increase your tatting speed by about 15% to 20%.

Thank you, I will try to keep that in mind if ever I tackle another project. Same goes for chainmailing when I was taught by a friend - never put your tools down! :)

I keep a shuttle in my purse for when I am bored in a line...I cannot stand still in a line and this keeps me busy. Your tatting is MUCH better than mine.
