Tattoo Styles I Hate

I *hate* tattoos that are only made to look good for Instagram. It gives me major trust issues and it leaves me unsure of how good an artist actually is.

I once walked by a tattoo shop that had a sign in the window that said “We tattoo ALL 3 styles” and that made me laugh hysterically.

I really appreciate how much emphasis you put on the topic of longevity of tattoos. It's something that, I feel, more artists should discuss with their clients. I started getting ornamental designs across my left arm and my artist was very particular about how we should maintain a certain distance between some lines and shapes, so they don't merge together as they get thicker over time. It's really nice to not only get a nice piece but also learn about the reality of how these things age over time.

I wonder what percentage of his audience doesn't have tattoos. It'd be cool of he did a poll. I don't have any tattoos, I also love that other people get tattoos. Idk why I find tattoo artist reacting to tattoos to be so entertaining, but it is and I'm going back and watching every single video lol!

My favorites have always been neo traditional and blackwork. Don’t know if you’ve done a video about it but I’d love to see your take on brutal blackwork and the more extreme side of tattooing/ body modification. Tattooed eyeballs, all that jazz.

the issue with the healing critiques is you cant actually know it depends on the artists technique specific ink brands etc also if it fades cause of sun exposure thats thats wearers fault thats what sunscreen is for or a parasol... only way to make a semi ok healing critique is by looking at the artists healing pictures and see if they have a multi year healed picture. one of my artists is constantly spammed with people being like oh it won't heal well or wont last l even though she even has many pictures of healed tattoos several years old that still look great. but people don't bother looking. it wont last is just a very lazy critique that is also usually unprovable until many years later. in the end its the clients decision and shouldn't play into if a tattoo is a good or bad one

love blackwork but i agree, that is not a great representation of it - gimme a solid saturated blackout any day of the week over that... or a nice blastover piece!

almost any traditional style, Russian traditional, Japanese traditional, American traditional and some island/tribal tattoos not the y2k era tribal real tribal are the best, anything else in my opinion just doesn't look like a "tattoo" I think a tattoo has a specific look / style to call it a tattoo.

My only tattoo with color(did by me) still has purple and yellow in it after 14 years.

The fine line tribal looks like what we do on set as makeup artists to make the skin look zombie or alien or diseased lol

I have a 20 something yr old yellow rose from John saletra when he was in Venice and it’s still yellow. But every orange from shops I ever got disappeared except my moms orange I did myself w my kids is ten years n running

As a physical watercolor artist, most watercolor tattoos really bug me.. like I just think they’re usually ugly big streaks of color or drops/blobs.. You should never use just basic solid colors for watercolor, use color theory for shading and blends When done right I love watercolor tattoos, but most I’ve seen are ugly IMO

The first tattoo you should have showed an example of how it fades badly because otherwise it just looks super good. You have to come with visual receipts for your audience man.

I have a full color tattoo with Lottie black. There is a lot of contrast and a lot of there 7-15 year photos look fantastic

I designed my tattoo and learned that some of the only colors in it will fade over time. I made sure to tell the artist to at least black outline it. I will enjoy the colors for as long as possible.

yeah, that first one already looks like the bottom is much older and already starting to fade. the first thing i noticed. also, i can’t stand portrait tattoos. i don’t want to look at someone else’s face when I’m looking at someone. the worst is when someone gets a dead family member on themselves- i can only imagine how messed up it has to be for their significant other when they’re getting intimate 😬

When i get tattoos I actively seek input from the artist, if I have a bad idea I want them to tell me no!! which has happened on multiple occasions where they say well if we do your idea it would have to be this way because of xyz and i appreciate that. i want a tattoo artist who is going to have opinions and an artistic vision. I love bright colorful neotraditional style tattoos and with the exception of 3 that i got done in the traditional style have all held up really well over the years. surprisingly the 3 traditional style tattoos are the ones that look the worst, where the outlines have spread out the most and the colors have faded the most.

the rules of tattooing are defined by the properties of human skin...but you'll always have artists blinded by arrogance who think they can somehow revolutionize what's already been resolved. .

Does that one white tattoo count as triable though? Iv never seen that style be linked to triable designs as triable is usually having to do with specific designs for a specific reason. I always looked at that style as more alien? I think I saw someone describe it as aliens scarification which would makes sense for the white/ red pallet
