"We're familiar with these. At first we thought it was just a minor ailment in our bioforms. The annoying 'Exploding Head' syndrome. Imagine our surprise when we learned it was because of the sea food!" - The Hive Mind
The Tau railgun was one of the first concepts I was introduced to in 40k. While I will forever be a bug boy the giddy grin I had when a friend told me "Tau use Railguns that are so powerful that when they hit enemy tanks they go clean through and then suck the contents out the exit hole as the vacuum behind the round is just that large" is one of the reasons I adore this universe
@@lordfrostdraken Normally, if you make a claim, the burden of proof is upon you. A video with a title "Liquifying suicide bombers in Bagdhad" includes a scene where a tank crewman states that the DU-Sabot-Round used by the M1 (I think they are referring to the M829 there) would liquify crews in a tank so "the inside of the vehicle would have to be hosed out". This would be due to the crew being basically shredded and burned by the superheated mist, spall and fragments of a Round penetrating the armor, more so for a DU round. There are further claims on other websites of the round having the stated effect. The exact physics of how a crew would be liquified and then sucked out of a hole in the tank I have yet to see. But, and this is a kardashian one, this would have made big news if true. I would tend to say thats one of the many military myths, like the one with russian 5.45mm-Rounds being poisoned, 5.56mm killing you even if it just scratches you....
@@dashans6175 yeah it's not the vacuum that kills people inside. It's the uranium slivers that peal off on penetration igniting inside the cabin. Elemental uranium oxidizing into uranium oxide.
@CreedOfHeresy there mounted on ships, do to energy demands and size of barrels. Not recoil. Look up how rails guns work. They do not have explosive for there projectiles, they use magnets to propel the round forward meaning there is no backwards force
@CreedOfHeresy Right. Though I will point out that a catridge doesn't explode, its a combustion cycle, kinda like how a piston engine cycle works. Except the piston is the bullet, and instead of valves opening to release pressure before an explosion occurs, it's the bullet leaving the barrel, allowing the fire and hot gas to exhaust. This is why the gun recoils backward, all the pressure is released out the end of the barrel pushing everything backward. An eplosion occurs when there is no way for the fire and expanding gas to escape, no pressure release.
8:00 *Baldemort:* They have a weapon I classify as ABSOLUTELY HORRIFIC *Dark Eldar:* We feel offended, our civilization dedicated millenia to creating monstrous instruments of war and torment. But a blueberry fire cannon is what you call horrific ? *Tyranid Hive Mind:* Agreed, it doesn't even digest the targets alive or eat their organs from the inside. Where is the penache ?
All in all, even death by nids is less painful than Dark eldar captivity (or even a quick death by dark eldar) But you gotta admit, the theatricality of a railgun projectile penetrating through a tank and less than a second after a pool of blood and gibs flows out like a fountain out of the exit hole, is quite impressive
In a galaxy where the only measure of success is survival, there is no weapon or form of turture more terrifying then one that kills efficiently. The prospect of individual torment or being digested alive can never be as terrifying to an army as their mighty vehicles and war engines being helplessly picked off at a range where they can not even return fire.
I think this is inaccurate. A railgun shell has a small diameter so it does not displace a lot of air. it would basically create a vacuum tunnel of the same diameter by pushing all the air out of the way. After equalization, air pressure inside the vehicle slightly, rather then killing the entire crew. Railguns are real weapons, and if they killed any engineers that way, we'd probably have heard of it by now.
Thing is, real world railguns still don't even come close to relativistic speeds. A projectile traveling at a significant fraction of c would absolutely do damage to things it passes near within an atmosphere. You'd need a hell of a projectile to survive the journey too
@@jasonreed1631 Seems the blue berries have issued a challenge to our Krieg friends. I can already hear the gasmask muffled glee and sharpening of bayonetts
"Tank butt stew" was not an image I ever expected to have in my mind. Now it's one which I fear will never leave. This crew is, without doubt, my favourite group of "random bugger" characters.
I kinda want a playlist of all the stories, all these tantalizing cliff hangers leaving off between videos makes me want to just hear more of the story.
@@darkhorse13golfgaming @Dan Riley One last thing about Lasguns is that their power packs can also be "overcharged", a trick used by Imperial Guard veterans, which causes the pack to explode, turning the weapon into a makeshift grenade comparable in power to a Krak grenade.
Ahh, the Tau getting more love I see. I can’t wait for you to explore the battlesuits themselves, as they are the bread and butter of Tau military engagement. Wonderful video as always. For the Greater Good!
The tau are often criticized for being naive or underestimating how dangerous the galaxy is but insisting on developing railgun technology so early seems remarkably farsighted.
TAU RAILGUNS Some of the most deadly and vicious weaponry in the entire Warhammer 40K setting. The Tau kinetic rail guns and rifles. The real problem is giving the rail rifles to pathfinders. It makes scouts a large target, when you need them to be sneaky. We need rail rifles on regular fire warriors.
I always get a small spark of childlike joy whenever I get a notification for your videos, it's clear you're only getting more and more talented as time goes on, and I'm excited to see what the future holds. Hope you're doing well friend, see you next video.
The evil xenos are soft and bereft of the emporers grace but by the throne they have some leathal weapons, Oh hello commisioner, I was just talking about how weak the enemes of man are.
Emperor damn you Baldermort. I don't know how long we've waited for this continuation and you put it on hold at this cliffhanger! Really enjoyed it. You Master-orator you.
Love this story arc you're having here! Also, painting my marines just isn't the same without Balder in the background Warhammering. The vids are most welcome!
Imperium: aaaah those shooty guns are too powerful and scary and the Tau can't be as peaceful as they claim if they have guns like that! Also the Imperium: let's arm our marines with light auto cannons and walking tank armor and DRIVE ME CLOSER SO I CAN HIT THE DEMON WITH MY CHAIN SWORD!
By the Tau'va and everything else that is holy. We are finally getting Tau narratives. I asked a bit ago and Mr Balders told me he was busy but he would be making a Gue'vesa view of the Tau empire if I reminded him "in about a month". The day of reckoning is upon us, it has been exactly about a month since that faithful interaction with Baldermort. Pretty please, can we get more Tau stories? (Even if we have to lose our navy trying to slow down the Deathguard)
Thank you Mr Baldermort, showing you have another string on your bow. You do a Cockney accent. Guy Ritchie would be proud. You bring so much life to the story.
Awe Baldermort keep the battles interesting with ‘logical counters’* and the determination of committed soldiers. *I have to state logical counters because so many modern story tellers think last minute introductions of new fighting forces are an exciting turn in the battle and not eye rolling. Looking at ‘The rise of Skywalker’
Interestingly the railgun is in development by several militaries in the real world right now. They are not as good as Tau weapons but hypersonic velocities have been achieved by these weapons. Hypersonic is defined as traveling at least five times faster than the speed of sound.
I am not nearly as adept with words as you but ill try to convey my thoughts into one comment. I love your videos (both the lore and story aspects) and to hear you talk about my chosen faction and indeed one of its most potent weapons and to hear facts that i was not even aware of is truly a treat. Rail techonlogy of the tau is one of my favourite aspects and im glad with psychic awakening its making its way back a little bit (in recent editions its been somewhat supplanted by ion tech). But more than that its just so gratifying to hear someone talk of the Tau with such gusto, to acknowledge that (while maybe to a lesser extent) they do work in the Grimdark setting of 40k. That while certainly not now maybe in the future they could become a serious threat. And that is what i love about your channel. I can hear the love you have for the entire setting, the respect you have for all factions and the effort you put in to giving each one their due. And aside from that the stories you come up with and how you are able to tell them form the perspectives of the side on the receiving end (even when it is the tau getting pummeled) is truly a treat to listen too. Anyway have waffled on enough. Cant wait for the next video and especially looking forward to whatever you have in store for the Tau.
Seems like I may be one of the highest ranks in command My man just got a promotion -or several- in the common imperial way... all your superiors got killed I love it that the Tau are forced to shoot the Astartes in the nuts so that they can't make anymore of them bigga humies
John Ringo's "Posleen War" series, also known as the "Legacy of the Aldenata", uses something called "grav guns", which are like railguns; but, use gravity instead of electricity to propel the round. The rounds travel at .02c and actually generate lightning in their wake, due to the air friction.
The Taus flowery words being resoundingly hollow... Aye, dirty bunch of space smurfs! Still...I wouldn't mind having one of those railguns. Imagine the fun shooting cans off fences!!
Yeah, the tank commander just become my favorite character: snarky with dark sense of humor 😎 And now I can’t wait for Vostroyans... especially after Total Warhammer 3 trailer 😂
Which then begs the question why the operator and people close to him are not getting killed by the inevitably created radiation and heat that is created. Or simply getting their lungs ripped out of their bodies by the vacuum that the projectile creates. I mean, I can't imagine that every rail gun shot ever fired was fired by someone wearing full body armor, let alone the people in vicinity to the shooter. And even _if..._ said vacuum would suck in even the shooter, no way you fire such a weapon and keep standing. Or lying, doesn't matter.
@@Furzkampfbomber I can bring some explanations to this: 1) Sci fi writers are universally bad with any sort of numbers and maths in their own universe. In this case it’d be one of the rare time where the number is too high rather than too low 2) The Tau developped materials that absorbs radiations as said in the video so it could mitigate the effect 3) I think its fair to say that any person firing this gun is in full body armour. Tau do have full body armour after all, even for their pathfinders.
@@KalashVodka175 Thanks for the explanation. I was just a bit nitpicking anyway, I mean, it's Wh 40k we are talking about, so a lot of things are completely over the top and downright bonkers anyway. Still, I can't imagine that always everyone around a railgun being fired wears body armor. Just imagine a 'we have to protect those civilians from the evil Imperial Guard' scenario in an urban environment. You would almost inevitable fry a lot of civilians.
The Tau. *Spits* May Morkai take them and their damned weapons! Another excellent video my friend! Thanks for helping me get through another day at work lol
This story shocked me.... It was so good. The lore took me off my feet. Especially the last part where you talk about the Imperium's future if they don't watch out for the Tau. And I am a Hard core Imperium man myself.
Aww now that was nice. Did I detect a bit of jealousy? It is quite alright. T'au freely share our technology whether you join for the T'au Va(Greater Good) or ignorantly stand in our way. Have Fun. Hope to see you across the board.
New World Order railguns. For when you just really need infantry that can head shot a tank twice each second on the next moon over. It’s just a deep state to cover it up.
Looks at weapons in the chaos, dark Eldar and nid arsenal..... Yeah in terms of nastiness this weapon is practically sending them gift-wrapped puppies and kittens. Instantaneous and painless Loved the rest of the vid though!
Humans can't perceive things from below 80ms Even marines and Eldar likely can't experience below 800us.... But a munition traveling at 2% of light speed would pass through a 40cm thick human in about 67ns, instantly liquefying the nerves and brain. Completely painless
The hand held yeet canon of 40k....gotta so though, the blueberries may have good tech but their ignorance may cost them in the long run, wait till they encounter chaos hahaha, that’ll be a fun time for them. Also they did do work with the dark eldar before and that hasn’t been going well for them ever since.
Hello, Baldermort. Great video as always, the only thing I have to argue about is your last phrase. The one, that as long as T'au have those kind of weapons developed and invented their talks about peace is nothing. Why? Even Imperium of the past showed it, that if you want peace - prepare to war. And with the "preparation" they had at hand at the time Imperium managed to force even orks for peace, for trade. Thus it is exactly BECAUSE the T'au are able to invent and produce such weapons, that is the reason they COULD achieve the Greater Good.
Ahhh, I miss the days of 72 inch AP "what's an armor save?" . P.S. Baldy has become the voice in my head every time I read a "fluff box" in an old army book.
Not that it's applicable to 40k, but I thought some might be interested in some real developments. Several years back, a couple of companies developed full scale prototypes for the US Navy (that eventually underwent sea trials on one of the Zumwalt class destroyers. They were found to be too fragile for military deployment.) that accomplished some mind blowingly destructive tests. The amusing part is that it was accidentally discovered that there is a fixed upper limit on muzzle velocity for railguns. At around 10,000ft/s (3050m/s) it stops being a railgun and becomes a plasma cannon. The electrical energy imparted during firing combined with friction of traveling through the atmosphere strips all the electrons off and renders the projectile useless from a practical standpoint. It loses both cohesion and stability of flight causing wildly unpredictable ballistics and effects on target.
They’re just mad the Tau won’t engage them in melee even though they have absolutely no incentive to do so. For Chaos, the Loyalist SMs, both kinds of Eldar, and some Imperial Guard regiments melee makes sense. Their melee weapons can shred all but the most rare armor, and their standard weapons can barely penetrate it. Tau have shit for melee weapons and their ranged can penetrate all day, so literally no reason to ever get close.
