All is good that flows from taugrim! I've been following you since Warhammer. Always informative, always entertaining. Thank you very much for posting, and, thanks for the narration. The extra effort is much appreciated.
@Goins2754 the Pally community is by-and-large a good one, people have a sense of humor and are willing to help :) I'm glad to be a part of it. I cover survivability in detail in my Guide, e.g. Sections 4 & 5. I wouldn't overdo Resil, by doing so you gimp your Healing and Damage because you are missing out on Str.
I think i'm in love. Me and my friend got destroyed last week, so I went looking for Prot PVP arenas videos. Who do I find but you! So I watch this video and jump into a few arena matches and absolutely DESTROY them. Big help, thanks
@draginath Keep in mind that GbtL has multiple benefits: the 10% healing that you mentioned, grants an absorb bubble if you overheal yourself, and it makes WoG proc Holy Shield. The more efficient your WoG self-heals are, the better you will hold up under focus fire, and the fewer heals you need to place on yourself and the more you can place on your team mates.
@rhyst6969 Glad to hear it! I'm glad you two didn't give up on it last week - people tend to make snap judgments (no pun intended) on Prot, without really understand the spec's mechanics in PVP. Rock on!
@draginath Funny you should ask. I'm planning on moving the 1 point in DG to Reckoning for Arena, since DG is better for mass-scale fighting. There isn't much we can do re: our (lack of) gap-closing abilities. I use cooldowns early (AS/Stun/Silence) and force a kiter to turtle and build up as much HoPo as possible, and hope to outlast them.
Man I love this one. Ardent Defender rules. I love hearing Kashmir being all surprised in the background when it pops, haha. Quick question: For addons I use an extensive Clique profile with pretty much everything I can cast on anyone bound to clicks. Do you use anything like that? Also, have you ever tried ArcHud? I like not having to look anywhere weird to see my health as I tend to stop paying attention to myself when pvping.
I feel like I just found a gem coming to your site :) Very good information, and fun videos to watch. +1 and keep them coming. Areann, Prot Pally - Lightbringer US
@taugrimtaugrim Is there something that functions like clique in the default UI? I honestly don't know if there is. Are you targeting Kashmir every time you heal him? The reason I use clique for pve is because I can keep my enemies targeted while I'm casting heals and cleanses on the rest of my raid/party. Seems like that would be useful for arena as well.
@taugrimtaugrim I was considering dropping Guarded by the Light for it. I think your build deals more overall damage, but Reckoning is a pretty nice bit of anti-melee burst when the situation calls for it. You think losing 10% healing on yourself will make a terrible amount of difference when you have both Divinity and the Glyph for WoG?
@hastman1 My goal is to help others learn how to play Prot effectively, and a big part of that is showing what not to do and mistakes I make. I don't make faceroll leetness videos. Those are a dime a dozen and don't help viewers improve their gameplay.
@kazujakazama OK thanks for clearing that up! Leap of Faith is yet another reason why we should focus fire the Shadow Priest when facing that comp. I opened up on the Mage in that match because he was the closer target, but that was clearly a mistake.
I notice that you do not pick up Reckoning, any particular reasoning for that? Also, how do you deal with Prot's gap closing abilities? The hardest thing I'm finding is that any semi-decent player can easily keep me at a distance, especially with CDs down.
Not expecting a reply as it's an old video and you've probably got better things to do, but as of 4.1 what with the asskicking ret self healing is about to take, and the fact that Ret literally lacks all viability outside of a hunter-based comp or Battlegrounds (hi we heard you like warlocks purging wings) I'm planning to return to prot, do you know if this still works well?
I'm finding that ditching Rule of Law and Divine Guardian for Reckoning and Guardian's Favor gives me a good amount higher uptime on targets and a healthy amount of burst against melee targets. You lose that group utility element in Divine Guardian but gaining a little more mobility seems to be given me more access to Holy Power overall.
@iFunns HoPo is the lifeblood of a Prot/DPS comp. So long as I am beating on a target to generate HoPo, I can functionally heal us. That first clip against the DK/Holy Pally, I did 2.4 mil dmg and 1.3 mil healing, compared to 2.1 mil dmg for DK. WoG is way underrated by most Pallies at endgame. I see people complaining how little it heals - and while it can feel underwhelming, being able to throw out 18+k heals every 8 seconds or so can really stretch out a fight.
@taugrimtaugrim That's true. I'm not really missing Reckoning atm though. I mean, it's nice to have (not as nice as it was before nerfing it in 4.0), but I definitely think that being able to pump out more Holy Damage is more beneficial in more areas than an RNG chance for an extra swing.
@draginath Ditching Rule of Law is a really bad decision - by doing that you're giving up +15% crit chance to CS and WoG. I tried 1/2 Reckoning (0 in DG) for about 4 days and looked at Recount and logs and it was
@AcryllicGaming the WoG nerf in 4.1 is going to kill the viability of both Ret and Prot in Arena IMO. Both specs will have very weak healing and peeling (CC). It sucks and I don't agree with the explanation provided by Blizzard with respect to the change. It's a horrible change IMO. I switched to another game (Rift) prior to the announcement of 4.1 and Rift has been the best game I've tried in the past 5 years.
at 06:22 you said resto druid, its a feral. match would have been way more competitive with a rogue/healing comb since these two sucked pretty much. nice vid anyhow
