Lehigh makes a 45LC all brass round (maximum expansion) that is specifically designed for use in this gun. I have one, too, and really like it. The commentary on the 410 bore made for this application is accurate, as well. And, don't forget about the 410 buck and slugs! I just looked - they are also available from Underwood.
One of the best guns out there. I own 5 variants of the judge and Iv had no problems with none of them. Highly recommend to the point that I’d trust my life to them.
Great review, I have the poly defender upgraded the grip with pachmyer full purchase grip . Try the Remington 5/8 oz slugs out of it ...what a punch feels like a 44 magnum.
I wasn’t looking to buy this gun, but found it used at a small town pawn shop this weekend for a price to good to pass up. Been scouring the internet trying to find info about the model I have… it has the same hammer as yours… kind of rounded off. No place to pull the hammer back with thumb unless you partially pull the trigger to get your thumb on it. Every other model I has ever seen, the hammer has a larger extension coming off of it.
@@CCFamily2009 I am so sad to report; I got a call from the local Sheriffs office and the gun was reported stolen. I had to give it back. Luckily I was offered a refund by the pawn shop where I bought it. Now I’ve got several boxes of 45LC and .410 defense ammo I ordered online and nothing to shoot it with. I’m definitely going to keep my eyes open and purchase it “new” and not used. Just turns my stomach this happened.
I have had my Public Defender for a many years. I love it. First thing I did was swap out the stock grip for a 3 finger Pachmayr grip. Big difference in control and recoil. You also need to be specific on what Long Colt 45 shells to shoot out of it. Had some Hornady rounds and they make two versions, one for long guns and one for hand guns. Don't shoot the long gun version in the evening. It will put out a big fire ball at the end of the barrel since most of the powder has not burned yet! There are now many different handgun 410 defensive loads that are perfect for this gun. My preference is the Federal 000 2.5 inch rounds. Many videos out there on this shooting into ballistic gel with that shell. Great stopping power.
If you were to purchase another Judge would you still go with the steel frame or poly? I’m trying to decide which is best for me. Just to keep with me while working out on the property & while on the mower for snakes.
I bought a public defender poly for the wife to keep by the nightstand. We keep it loaded with Winchester 410 PDX1 defender rounds. The gun has about a paper plate sized spread at 20 feet using these 410 shells. Perfect for someone that my not have the best shot placement in a crisis situation. We also put a pachmayr diamond grip on. The larger grip helps my wife manage recoil. Also With this grip. I’m able to fit my large hand completely on the handle. The stock grips are to small and you can only get 2 fingers on it if you have man hands.
you need to really look into the shotgun shells made FOR the handgun. 90% of the 2.5-inch shells are designed for the long gun and you will get subpar performance, ridiculous spread for example.
