ABOUT THIS FILM
____________________
A tale of tawny owl resilience
Filmed using cameras hidden inside their nest, it tells the story of how two tawny owls, nicknamed Bonnie & Ozzy, overcame the loss of their first clutch to lay a new set eggs.
And tawny owl chick survival
The story goes on to show how their chicks, Bramble & Sage, also overcame adversity after almost dying when their owl dad Ozzy stopped feeding them. See how, with a little help from me, these owlets eventually grew and fledged the nest.

Love that this guy helps them out instead of shrugging and being like "gotta let nature take it's course". Intervention isn't the same as interference and when we're talking about a keystone species which can be wiped out from the area simply because of bad luck hunting it's pretty obvious some exceptions can be made in terms of giving these animals the edge they need to survive and reproduce.

The problem is you are artificially supporting the genetics of a male bird that does not feed it's offspring. Now those chicks with those genetics will compete with others of the same species for food. So it is possible that he is hurting other birds by feeding the chicks because other parents who will feed their offspring have more competition. This is not guaranteed though so it's a toss up. I would only support it if the species is in serious trouble. It's not ideal but it is better than them dying.

I agree with you. I had watched a video titled: Lion cubs dying of starvation because of long dry season in Africa. One of the men taking videos said: let nature take it's course, and I commented: you guys just watch these animals died before your eyes? Why not throw just pieces of meat just to help these dying cubs survive!

So true ...i was thinking the same thing....thank goodness he isn't one of those people saying to let nature take its course ..the fact is that a lot of animals are having trouble because of the overpopulation of humans so the way i see it we need to help these beautiful creatures as much as we can because a lot of species are going extinct because of humans taking their habitats so we need to be helping animals as much as we can right now ...what A wonderful human being he is to be helping these beautiful owls to raise their young and try to help with the owl population..

THANK YOU 🙏 for actually stepping in and feeding the chicks when you saw they needed a hand instead of just letting nature take it’s course. It’s the most frustrating thing when a camera person just lets a baby animal starve for a nature documentary! I realize we can’t save them all, but we can certainly help where we can.

@@misty_radio4958 mysteriously dropping a mouse over the edge of the hollow 2 ‘ down to the babies isn’t “feeding them” for all they know their dad dropped it in. I just wish some of those guy filming lost cubs would “lose” a dead chicken or a bucket of water instead of filming a cub die of thirst and starvation! We’re sort of beyond that at this point in the 21st Century. We know how to help anonymously without disturbing the animals natural instincts.
@Rashinnu
@Rashinnu Год назад
@@crystalm4324 That is dangerous as it could teach those cubs to associate humans with food with potentially disastrous results. Here it was easy to assure that the chicks didn't see that it was a human that fed them. But losing a dead chicken isn't the same as they could then associate whatever "lost" it with free handouts. Don't get me wrong, it is heartbreaking to watch baby animals die, but it would be even more heartbreaking if that cub grew up to maul someone and had to be shot because it lost it's fear of people.

Thank you for all the films of owls, it's so sweet. I love watching them raise their babies. I don't think we have owls here in New York, it's probably too cold. The first time I saw an owl was in Florida. There's a lot of wildlife there. Up here the wildlife stands on 2 legs!
@WolfieDawn

Agreed, within reason. Generally a lack of prey or a diverted water source is usually humans fault. I know in Africa a lot of cattle farms are growing to such a size that the wildebeest, zebra, and antelope are struggling due to blocked paths from fencing and less grassland. A lack of predators has led to deer issues in the US due to a lack of territory and cars. We should be giving nature back it's land not keeping it to torture other animals.

I'm so HAPPY I found Mr. Fuller's RU-vid channel! Robert & his amazing team's documentary style videos are absolutely incredible: lovely music turns to dramatic music when danger approaches (which gives me enough time to look away when tragedy strikes because I'm a wuss lol); black/white video v. colored video is phenomenal; the panning out to lush green gorgeous pastures; Jean & Robert carefully tagging, weighing & cuddling the little owlets, & so, so much more! I cannot imagine the time & effort his team spends creating just 1 video for us. But honestly, it's Robert's soothing, caring voice as a narrator that keeps me coming back. Was extremely interesting to see the tagging process, would love to see that more often. I've noticed in a couple videos between clips the chicks would get a tag but was always curious what that process entails
@RobertEFuller

Tagging or ringing has to be undertaken by a qualified licensed person here in the UK. The process is quick and painless and the birds dont seem to mind. A numbered ring is carefully positioned on the leg when they are the right size - it will not move or restrict the bird in anyway and it is there so that we can monitor the birds for conservation purposes. We can see if how far a bird travels and how long they live. All this information is gathered and monitored so we can see how certain species are doing.

@@RobertEFuller I wish I could do the same as you. You are so blessed to do this and I know you have the skills and knowledge for this. I have lots of birds over my house, I feed them when they come over mainly the red crested cardinal. Lately I seen a younger one come around by himself, I dont see the parents around, he is young because of his/her brown hair, its not red yet. They are so cute.

Thank you again for such a Beautiful Video. I wish I was able to do more for what I have around me. Providing food for the backyard birds and fresh water in the front and back yard everyday is all I can do at this time. Wish the deer and other wildlife would stop cleaning out the feeders. It is crazy that I am going through 60 pounds of feed every month. Also keep Hummingbird feeder and it only seeing 5 to 8 visits an hour. I think it is awesome that you are able and willing to step in with food or warmth when they need it. Thank you for all you do.
