Because there was a Yasharn, so you couldn't activate Safekeeper anyway. But Hexdrinker still a bad call.

How disappointed were you when you watched this and realized the pilot had no clue how to operate the deck?

How is that infinite activations? Can’t you only activate wall of roots once a turn?

They are talking about using devoted druid + haste from Tyvar

@@mikeb9583532idk about winning on the spot but one certain thing is that ​​⁠​⁠if he gets safekeeper instead of hexdrinker and taps Gaea’s for 3G, takes the counters off Wall of roots, sacrifices Gaea’s and gives Tayam shroud he gets 1 instant speed Tayam activation, keeps his Tayam and has a Safekkeper on the field. So that’s already a flagrant mistake. Plus, we know they had Devoted Druid and Tyvar in hand so if they save Tayam this way an play those on their turn they can try to win on whatever turn as they always have counters on druid, wall and whatever creature they get back from Tayam activation, if they get ANY pump spell for Druid they get infinite activations. They could also get Eternal witness and get whatever instant win they have (chain of smog, silence, tutors so they can choose what creature to mill, etc.)

It's far from the most broken card in edh and the RC has few bans for power level.

@@Starkipraggy There's lots of answers. Removal, counters, hexproof, homeward path, command beacon. Its not too hard to fight and there are few theft cards. Gilded drake is barely even played in casual pods because it's expensive and casual players rarely proxy.

removal is a 1-for-2 since you need to remove your own commander then recast it. Few commanders have hexproof and counters don't exist with sans blue. I dont think that many people play homeward path but i guess yes command beacon is quite common but you're also going down a land drop. the other theft effects are a lot more expensive to be fair. considering the RC playgroup i'm sure more than a few of them own real gilded drakes that they play. im surprised none of them have gotten hosed badly enough to ban it especially when you look at how arbitrary the banlist is.

@@Starkipraggy This is silly. A single card that is counterplayed in every color and doesn't come close to winning the game or stopping an opponent isn't overbearing. Hexproof doesn't have to be baked on a creature. Every deck that cares about its creatures will have tyvars protection or heroic intervention in green or one of the phasing cards or counters in blue, one of the million protection spells in white like giver or mother, pyroblast or swat in red. The only color that doesn't have great protection from drake is black, which has great removal and every color has access to boots and greaves or homeward path. Even a wipe from any player answers drake. Two for ones are ok in edh.

It won a few months ago, but has fallen off the map since.

I don't play two of those cards anymore tayam hates whiffing on activations so any non to the battlefield tutors are out, bit with the pod composition it should have been tutor for crypt/solring, druid, tayam t3, no activation set up could worldly for wor. And have the engine you need but players gonna interact and then you look foolish for keeping a hand like that.

Because it can go infinite mana, dig for Thrasios and empty out the library to get a Thoracle win. Even if Thoracle comes out first in the Kinnan activations, the player can put the ETB on the stack and keep digging for Thrasios in response.

​@@DarkEinherjar The point is, Thoracle is completely useless in Kinnan. If you have infinite mana (colored mana + Kinnan or colorless + Thrasios), you will win with Finale of Devastation. Alternatively by bouncing all nonlands with Hullbreaker or Cyc Rift, looping the deck with Endurance, making infinite tokens (Swan Song) and possibly destroying all nonbasic lands (Boseiju). Then drop all haymakers, keep a full grip of counters (which you can refill at instant speed) and win next turn. Without infinite mana, Thoracle is a creature with scry on etb which is terrible. Thoracle in Kinnan is bad deckbuilding.

@InmAncalagon very well said. Thoracle is an extremely low card quality card that you never want to see in your hand unless you have consult or Pact, and in sans black decks it just lowers your card quality for no upside.

I respectfully disagree. Ryan's narrative is fine, but player dialogue actually lets you hear what reasoning players are using, sometimes they talk about lines they might have taken, sideboarding choices, mistakes they made. There's a lot of valuable choices discussed that are missed by narration.

Honest question - why? There are so many ways to get infinite tayam activations and this is the most established wincon to do it. Hell the player in the episode could've made it happen but botched the line

Helm still triggers, even if not equipped. Organize the triggers to have Arden's resolve first, attaching to the creature of your choice. Then you are free to resolve the Helm trigger that is now equipped to a creature.

@@PlayingWithPowerMTG That's fine, but using pronouns for one person in particular is somewhat odd. If you're going to use them (and its good that you are) you should have them for everyone, so it doesn't feel like the default is not trans. It'd be like adding she/her pronouns for a woman on the channel, without using any pronouns for anyone else, it would come off like he/him (or any non she/her) pronouns are default. Dunno if I've explained that correctly. Regardless, I love the content! Just wanna see you all improve.

It's only overrated if the pilot is inexperienced - tons of viewers saw the winning line and this player just botched it
