I have the same guitar I bought it about 4 years ago and every time I play it I’m reminded of what a good purchase I made. If you play it in a band or by yourself I’m telling you people will notice. It has a huge sound well balanced from Treble to Mids to Base and plugged in it’s unbelievable. You’ll have to make sure you keep the volume low or you’ll drown everyone else out. Very soft playing guitar with a very comfortable neck. I don’t have large hands so this is a very critical area for me. If you’ve never played one you need to go and try one especially the Koa as nothing else sounds like it. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
I've had mine for 4 years as well and I'm even more impressed as time goes on. The koa really opens up and rewards you with added richness and low end. As you say, SO comfortable and easy to play!
I just got back into playing guitar after a 15+ year break. Bought myself a Taylor 224ce-k DLX and a Martin HD-28. Different price ranges for sure, but both sound fantastic. Although $1500, the 224 sounds like a more expensive guitar. Sounds very close to the $2400 Gibson Hummingbird Songwriter. Anyway, I picked up that mesmerizing sequence you play at around 2:28. Wow. I can't stop playing it. You're awesome.
Great review! Thanks for demonstrating strumming, finger picking and flat picking! The versatility of this guitar is impressive. Been researching Takamine P3NC's and Martin OMC 15ME's but this may have swayed me. Good job!
Beautiful looking and sounding guitar. I've never been particularly impressed with Taylor's on board systems in the past, never finding them natural sounding (I used to own a 214ce DLX, and sold it), but this sounds fantastic.
Just bought one, super happy 😄 with it, beautiful to look at and joy to play😊 Warm sounding, exceptionally clear articulate notes, very playable neck, and the size if perfect. I had written Taylor off as too bright for me but this totally surprised me. Check them out 👍.
Thanks Russ. I have never had more than a 5 or 6 hundred guitar, but am thinking I would like to have one of these as I get ready to retire and will have more time to enjoy playing guitar.
Have enjoyed this Taylor Acoustic ( unplugged ) for 2 years but never enjoyed the sound of the Expression 2 System. Finally installed a Fishman Rare Earth Soundhole Pick Up and love it even more.
wow you're a great player and your audio is set up well so I can actually hear what the guitar sounds like accurately. I wish you reviewed every guitar. lol.
@@russbucymusic5215 i think people love comparisons. If you've got a guitar store that can accommodate you, maybe do comparisons of popular brands, tonewoods, body shapes etc in the same price range.
I have this guitar and it had to have a neck reset. I bought it used from someone who apparently kept it in a very humid environment for a year. The action was WAY too high. The tech who fixed it had to order a $50 shim neck reset kit from Taylor. The action know is playable and the setup is perfect. I wish we could post photos on RU-vid because it's the most beautiful guitar I've ever seen and now it plays great.
I have the Special Edition of this guitar which is a Satin finish that let's the grain speak for itself in color variation. It's incredible. I see people say $1600-1700 is way to much for a guitar like this (especially a 200 series), my guess is they've never played it. This is the top of the line for what Taylor's Mexico facility produces and it is QUALITY. Try finding a quality Solid Koa top guitar for cheaper that doesn't come from China (not all are horrible but most aren't as advertised). No shade, but Takamine has a Koa guitar that runs $1500 and though it's quality the entire guitar is laminate (figured) including the top. There will always be inexperienced experts and a lot of opinion but you just have to go out there and play for yourself!
I'm looking to buy a used 224ce koa deluxe with a satin finish and was beginning to wonder if it was a refinished one till I found out about the Special Edition, how do you like it.
Do you thing that that taylor is better than the 214ce dlx sunburnst or the 314ce, cuz i want to buy one of those and i really dont know which buy, pls help
Hope you got the 224. It keeps going up in price. Better sounding than most "all solid" guitars, in the same vain. I have seen videos of all solid koa guitars and the 224 takes the prize. Plus, stays true in dry climates, with little transition.
I think the guitar is broken, I did not hear the violins during "Dust in the wind" ;-) I came here via the G&L guitar review. There I hoped for more playing / sound comparions.
I have both, and I would honestly choose my 224 Koa over the 314. I just love the sound. Both are amazing guitars, though. It's just all in what tone you're looking for. The 224ce-K DLX is going to sound amazing, but it's unique. The 314 is solid wood and has that modern yet traditional sound. Both feel fantastic to play, you really can't go wrong with either.
Great review man. I have a taylor 615 (quilted maple) that I love to death, but thinking about trying something different. Very interested in koa. Sounds really good!
