The Hawk fucking rules. I love this song and his loose vibe, just going for it and having fun, and that quip about him not being there to do drum solos after he delivers one, great humility. What a fucking dude.

I played drums in a couple different bands, over the years ... Sang backup vocals on a few songs. What Taylor is doing here... is SO INCREDIBLY FUCKING DIFFICULT. He makes it look easy. I can't do that.

Taylor’s fantastic, but I must say…. if the only thing you knew about him is that he’s the drummer in Dave Grohl’s band you could bank on him being a great drummer. I love that they are similar in that they both play hard and straightforward while ticking like an atomic clock.

My man put on a fucking one man show!! This was one of the first performances of Taylor’s that I stumbled across after becoming a Foo fan. God DAMN Taylor had a for real groove to his playing. 🥰 I LOVE it. I cried like a baby when he left us

I'd rather have a great drummer that can write songs, sing and play multiple instruments then have the greatest drummer in the world and that's all he does. I don't care if you can play the world's greatest drum solo or can shred on guitar for a week straight, if you don't have originality you're worthless. IMO. Taylor has a lot more going on than just being a phenomenal drummer, he can write and record his own album just like DG. What more could you ask for.

That's fair comment Ariel, I get it, individual drummers just do what they do & some are great in there respective fields. That would make Hawkins great, (rock/pop), & Harrison great, (jazz/ prog rock). From a listeners point of view I suppose it's whatever floats your boat!

Truly a great showman. Chops are great but also boring. Hawkins has just enough to get him in the door, but, as he humbly acknowledges, he's there to kick out the jams not wow people with ghost notes and paradiddles. Loved it.

Good drummer, no doubt about it, but I've always wondered what it was that prevented him & other good drummers reaching the technically very high standards that we see from so many great drummers today, the likes of Gavin Harrison etc, etc, etc..... I know they play different genres, but I'm talking about ability. Was it no lessons, is it they were self taught so then they'll hit there natural talent wall, lack of practice, just not wanting to be the best that he or she could be??

Hawkins has great technique, he is just not a virtuoso like the guys you've mentioned. He has a pop rock mind. His talents are so much in composing as performing. Let me say this: why do all of the guys you said are great musicians are known for their ability, but dont take part in great bands? Its just two different paths on music: virtuose and pop music. With all that said, he is well above average in rock band drummers.

I'm obviously not smoking what you are! Watch '19 Days' 'Anethetize' or 'Killer Joe' etc by Gavin Harrison or drummers like Weckl, Steve Smith, Tony Royston Jr, Vinnie Colaiuta & my previous comment should become clear, if it doesn't then there's nothing I can do to help you. I repeat, Hawkins is a good, entertaining drummer but not top draw, not even close.

so what, he writes fantastic music and is worth far more money than we could ever dream of, granted being the best drummer in the world would be great but to be fair those guys get no money , no girls , and no real Praise for there efforts except from other elitist musicians , Taylor is tight as a teenagers ring piece he is a good singer and a very successful man I doubt he cares to much about being a virtuoso and to be honest I would much rather be in his shoes than say Mike portnoys

He's like Grohl. A good rock drummer. Everything is at the same level, very little accents or dynamics. Not even close to guys like Weckl, Gavin Harrison, Todd Sucherman. He's a good entertainer. He twirls & grabs cymbals like his hero Roger Taylor. That's cool.

So what makes a drummer special? How fast they can go? stick tricks? What about the ability to be a reliable and a strong drummer in his pocket? He can sing and play drums, that right there is not easy. Taylor is one of the best drummers I'd say. Not bashing your personal opinion but your opinion on what makes a great drummer needs to change.
