I'm surprised this was the go-to reaction request because her voice has improved TENFOLD since. The live performance of Exile with Bon Iver on her channel is incredible, as is every folklore performance from that gig.
There is not one time when i heard this song and i didn't cry. This is by far her best written song. I mean the songwriting on folklore and evermore are immaculate, the the amount of raw heartfelt emotions poured in this song and RED album overall is unmatched.
Yeah you can really feel the pain in this. Much of folklore and evermore aren’t personal. They were AMAZINGLY written and stunning but this emotion still stings. You can feel it
As you note, this may be her best lyric ever: "And you call me up again Just to break me like a promise So casually cruel in the name of being honest I'm a crumpled up piece of paper lying here" Certainly my favorite. BTW, this is why Swifties keep asking Jake to give the scarf back....
Watching this performance after so long makes me realize her voice has aged so well for her. She has found her strength. 1989 and reputation stadium tour live performances are just incredible you should really check then out
Very simple, genuine reaction -- I absolutely loved it. I actually never realized the significance of the "crumbled up piece of paper" line and it made me cry hearing you explain not only the crippling pain but the stories that still hold inside it. Thank you for this! Subbing!
it’s incredible how her live vocals have improved since this! you should check out exile from the long pond sessions! both justin and taylor sound absolutely flawless
All too well is a fan favorite. I just realized how much her voice has changed. You should react to her album reputation. I feel you would really enjoy it.
@@soaribb32 I definitely think he would. He would appreciate the lyricism and the grand production; he always gives props to huge, impactful pop production
Another song about Jake Gyllenhall is called The Moment I Knew. It is Taylor at her storytelling best. There isn't a MV, but there is a lyric video. It is simple, but oh so relatable. It is a true story. And, you can picture every sentence of that song, every moment, it is like you are in the room with her. It is an amazing piece of storytelling.
She was trying very hard to keep a stable voice in this performance. This song was still difficult for her to perform live because it always made her cry. When she first released Red, Taylor swore that she would never perform this song because she broke down just recording it.
If you like lyrics and storytelling, Taylor is the one for you. Her voice is nice, I actually really like it because it's very distinctive, but it's not what makes her stand out amongst her peers, there are tons of main pop girls with voices as good as hers (Selena, Lana, Lorde) or even better (Adele, Miley, Beyonce, Rihanna). What makes her stand out is her writing. She once said in an interview that she was aware that if she didn't write her own songs she wouldn't have gotten where she has, and honestly that's the truth
First time I saw this performance, I was just like you. Baffled by the song and the performance. What else can I say ? Can’t find a reason to not love this song. It hits hard in the heart and I just feel like crying with her.
I’m so glad you reacted to this song! It’s typically considered her best written song by critics and fans alike. It’s from her album Red, which would be so cool to hear you react to someday!
The entire Red album is essentially about her relationship with actor Jake Gyllenhaal. The subject of this song (post breakup) is sort of directly preceded by "The Moment I Knew", TMIK, one of the bonus tracks on the deluxe version. TMIK is about her 21st birthday party. "22" is about her 22nd birthday; by that time, she was "Clean", the last track on the standard version of Red.
Have you watch Taylor's NPR tiny desk concert? Please do so. She tells the story about this song, how it means to her now. And please do a reaction video. Please, pretty please? ☺
This is an emotional performance but not her best vocally. My FAVORITE live performances of hers are Cornelia Street from the City of Lover concert. And Out of the Woods Grammy performance. SO GOOD!!!
Too bad you didn't watch another ten seconds. Her parents are standing and clapping with everybody else of course but her dad comes this close to exploding with pride. My favorite moment when she looks back at her mom and dad. Welcome Swiftie.
I think we've long since established that Taylor is an album artist. Her albums' performances are way more notable than her singles and that's a testament to her prowess as an artist and as a legitimate musician.
the most amazing part of this song is in Taylor's song book arrangement (where she throws her head back in these videos) the left hand chords play the sound and rhythm of pent up unshed tears - the right hand creates an innocuous chord with the melody so you don't hear the pent up unshed tears unless you actually play it. such a song writer
I don't understand why would Ms. Aretha Franklin answered back "nice dress, beautiful dress" when she was asked about what she thinks about Taylor. I mean, every celebrity (actors, singers) wear beautiful clothes. Clearly the interviewer asked Ms. Aretha about Taylor musically. Not a hater. I love the song "It ain't no way", and a lot more from the queen of soul. 🤘💚🇵🇭
Because Ms. Aretha Franklin is an A++ vocalist and legend. Taylor Swift has an extremely weak voice, and for someone with a weak voice to become as famous as she did, Aretha probably looked down on that. She also most likely only knew of her from her singles - all which were very teen pop/country, so she didn't take her seriously. In that same interview she was asked about Nicki Minaj - she shaded her too. Probably for similar reasons (namely not taking her seriously as an artist). Whereas when she was asked about Alicia Keys, Adele and Whitney Houston, she praised them all because they were successful only because of their music/voice/writing and weren't associated with "teen pop" or gimmicks. All of them are more old school, which is something she appreciated and could relate much more with.
Please please please react to the re-recordings of her old albums when she releases them. Her lyricism and storytelling is so beautiful and has been from the very start!
This has been one of my favorite songs of hers since the album came out. I think Long Live is also on the same album, but it gives me the same kind of feeling
I think you would very much like the Wildest Dreams performance live at the Grammy Museum. It's a simple stripped back version with just an electric guitar and it's one of those performances I keep going back to.
taylor with a stripped down production is everything. fans have waited for her to make an album like it, and thank god we got folklore and evermore. and yeah if you want another taylor swift album with great songwriting, listen to Red (or Speak Now - which is a self written album)
You should check out her Tiny Desk Concert or the private acoustic performance of the whole RED album. Those more intimate, paired down performances are where Taylor and her lyricism really shine.
YES YOUR PRECONCEPTIONS ABOUT TAYLOR HAVE FINALLY BEEN SHREDDED!!! now please do the same with Harry Styles PLEASE REACT TO HIS ALBUMS, ONE WAS GRAMMY NOMINATED AS WELL! Would love to get your professional opinion on them!
This is hands down my favorite Taylor song but maybe not my favorite performance of it. She seemed so nervous. I love the acoustic version she did on the reputation tour. But yeah I think this will stay in a top 3 of her songs for the rest of her career, regardless of what else she puts out.
The story telling, lyrics, melody, production everything about this is just masterclass and it was considered her best song by almost everyone. now champagne problems is competing for this position...
I subscribed to your channel because of your Taylor reactions, and i am sure many people did too. pleaaaase just react to red album, reputation, fearless (taylor's version). they are all so beautiful, just like you and your reactions. please create more Taylor Swift content. i would be soo happy
