Some clever lyrics in this song: "One for the money, two for the show I never was ready, so I watch you go" It's a play on the old rhyme: One for the money, two for the show Three to get ready and four to go I just love how she comes up with these little things! Also the "your Midas touch on the Chevy door" - in the Greek myths everything King Midas touched turned into solid gold, so when she writes that in the song she is saying that the relationship was this beautiful shiny thing, but a solid gold car is only that - beautiful, but it can't take you anywhere. So the relationship was a dead end. Anyway Taylor has galaxy brain 😅

Idk about you, but I wasn’t ready when she announced evermore. I was still so stuck on folklore. But I love this new album. I think I might like it better than folklore. And champagne problems is one of my favorite songs on it!

She mentioned in an interview about the guitar you like. It’s a guitar with a rubber bridge. Apparently the rubber bridge deadens the strings and gives it an old fashioned sound. Can’t wait to see the rest of your reactions to this album!

And to think about the fact that she wrote this WITH her boyfriend... I cant-- they're such a pair of sad sobs ㅠㅜ

I love this song so much!! They way the town supports him after she denies the proposal, as if it were such a traumatic event for him but then claim her mental health issues are just champagne problems is so devastating to me

I just love watching other people react to champagne problems.

For me, folklore and evermore are Taylor's best work to date. I love the Americana almost folk style of the songs. The music doesn't overpower the singing and you're able to hang on every word. I agree about the lyric videos - they're so well done and pair really well with her songwriting style. As mentioned below, Taylor co-wrote this song with William Bowery AKA her boyfriend Joe Alwyn. He has a songwriting credit a bit later on Coney Island (along with TS and the Dressner brothers from The National). And pay very close attention to Evermore when you get to that. It's the track with Bon Iver that I assume is the sister track to Exile. Joe co-wrote Exile and he also co-wrote Evermore and the piano work is Joe, not Bon Iver.

I just love how many layers this song has, it almost makes you uncomfortable to some degree to listen, cause you can hear how much the narrator despises herself, how her mental health affects her and yet she calls it just champagne problems

Yes. She turned down a proposal because the relationship wasn't going anywhere. Maybe the guy was just the one who's in love and she (mc's pov) had champagne problems (mental illness/addiction maybe or just problems you drink to). She's just basicallu saying "I'm sorry but you'll find happiness with someone else thats not me."

This song has to be about Tom Hiddleston, he was going to fast in the relationship, and people referred tho their relationship as ‘fake’ or ‘for the money’ that it was just for show. So i think it is about him. Plus he has a sister soo idk
