Bar, a well-known Islam influencer with over 45,000 followers on Instagram, has been the focus of the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution for years. The young Austrian is said to have changed increasingly in the weeks before the planned attack. He grew a full beard, signed up for a gym to build muscle, and showed increasingly clear signs of his radicalization. This took place primarily online, and the 19-year-old finally confessed to being a member of the Islamic State (IS) in a video. According to US intelligence services, this video was supported by the terrorist organization, which underlines the international nature of the radicalization.
Another disturbing detail is that the main suspect used encrypted services to plan the crime with a 17-year-old accomplice.
