"shes very good at making calculated moves look casual" so true cus i saw some people genuinely believing that the 13 ball coming up was not planned n i was like 😭😭
My dumbass was like “what a coincidence 😮“ and I fully went along w it. you would think it’s my first day on internet babe x now I didn’t comment on the post tho acting confused ..that’s taking too far even for me😭
Mastermind is a board game from the 70s. It is a code breaking game. I don't think she randomly picked a track either. Also the RED phone. Very Reputation as well (LWYMMD). I saw someone say she's trying to make us guess eras with these track reveals. I remember her putting emphasis on two words in the tiktok as well. "Fate" and "Mastermind". She said everything else calm and collected despite the chaotic nature of the video.
I have played that game, a modern version of it, but I play it on holidays with my family, I think it's based on picks and fixes or I don't know the exact name in English, the table game is with colors and the other game is with numbers, and given the importance of both colors and numbers for Taylor makes it perfect.
I've been thinking!!! But like, is the warped voice and telephone going to be something we see for the whole Midnights Mayhem series, or is the warped voice and telephone specifically an easter egg for Track 13: "Mastermind"?? Because if it's specifically for "Mastermind" only, then it could mean that the song will be using a warp-ish rock voice in one of its sections (basically like the warped voice sound of how she said "Mastermind"); and a telephone lyric/reference! OH OH. I might be getting a reach here but could "Mastermind" be about the night that the Kanye West telephone call was leaked??? That's why we have a telephone reference?? And why the warped voice sounds like the warped voice of "the old Taylor can't come to the phone right now"?! It could also tackle how Kim was like the mastermind of it all, and of course, classic songwriter Taylor could flip it that in the end, Taylor became the "mastermind" by owning up to all the drama and hate and making it into something artistic. Anyway, can't wait for your video Zach!!
I believe the tracks will average about 3.5 minutes. I anticipate the songs being simpler in structure than Folklore and Evermore, more concise, possibly being more cryptic, and a return to a more upbeat sound compared to the cotemplative nature of her 2020 releases. Mastermind has to be a song about her. How she uses these restless nights that torture or fill her with sleepless excitement to create meaningful art.
Well, looking at the LWYMMD phone, and a phone in one of the vinyl covers seeming like the password booth in ready for it mv, I think this is about her fued with he who shall not be named.
Mastermind I feel like could be a punch at her ploy to re-record her MASTERs. I’m hoping it goes into how she regained control of the situation and how it’s already paid off for her.
Patiently waiting for the day we watch you watch ME! music video. I'm sorry for wanting to see you suffer but I just know you would deliver incredible, savage commentary and repulsed facial expressions

Definitely wondering if this is going to be a nightly thing and she'll announce another track name at midnight EST tonight or if she's going to spread them out a little bit over the next month.
P.S. you can now pre order midnights on iTunes and the genre for the album is labeled “pop”. On top of that, six of the 13 songs are labeled explicit and you can see which songs are by looking at the track list. The song names are not on there yet though.
I don’t know about your take that Taylor’s wouldn’t specifically try to win another AOTY. I do agree that literally anything she puts out at this point would be a contender. If Midnights turns out to be very sonically cohesive (like 1989, folklore and, to a lesser extent, Fearless…) I’d say she’s looking directly at awards season. If it’s a sonic jumble, like Red (obviously still thematically cohesive), then I’d agree she’s just putting music out with no particular agenda other than it’s the music she wants to create.
You saying you think Tik tok is a good platform for her but you don’t want her on it too much. You sound like a parent limiting her screen time and I love it. You’re hilarious. ❤
i don't know if this is a reach but i think Mastermind might be about the Kimye situation and how everyone thought that she orchestrated the whole thing! i'm not a big believer that Karma (the album) ever existed, but i think the song might've been on it if it ever materialized. like the songs she wrote when she was on her break! i hope it's like This is why we can't have nice Things but, y'know, good and in general i really hope this album mixes it up! i really want there to be interesting chords progressions and song structures! like The way I Loved you or Treacherous vibes! i kind of have a feeling we might even get a bit of a jazzy influence! think aretha franklin's pop/soul fusion without the soul bit! i feel like jazz could work with Tay's voice really well. but then again based on the length of the vinyl there wouldn't be much room for jazz songs. i can't wait for this record! already ordered my Mahogany vinyl! eeeevil... i've come to tell you that she's evil... most definitely...
renaissance wasn't a surprise album, break my soul was released prior to the album but only with a lyric video (no visuals), which is certainly something Taylor could do
I love how you immediately started thinking about who is the mastermind :D my mind went the same way about it... I was like I am a mastermind? you are? (in like a good or bad way?), he is? (some guy she dated), her MASTERS (part of the word mastermind, so like Sc**t?) I am really curious if the clothes she's wearing or the things she is using (the phone) or the emphasis she puts on specific words will change or if it is just a vibe of that mayhem? I personally love this concept so much, I also think she did not pick 13 by accident... like it feels to random for tay... but if she does this mayhem everyday... what will come next? also, will she announce if the track has a feature on it if it does? I am so curious
OMG AND NOW WE HAVE VIGILANTE SHIT WHAT WHAT WHAT IM DYING okok so the vibes i'm getting is that mastermind will sort of call someone out like dear john, sort of like "oh, you thought you were a mastermind?" or something like that. i think vigilante shit will be like the theme of cowboy like me (with her being the cowboy/vigliante) with a completely different sound, possibly about her rerecording her masters because that's kind of a vigilante situation with her going against the normal "rules" if that makes sense
Mastermind is most likely about the Kanye phone call especially as she was holding a phone in the Tik Tok but she might also address the VMA incident in the same song. Or she's talking about herself lol she is the Mastermind
personally i dont think that there's actually going to be a title track, but I think that it's very possible that "meet me at midnight" could be a track title and some sort of almost title track if that makes sense
random thought: there are 2 remixes on the deluxe. i personally doubt she would put 2 remixes of the same song on an album. (like i know there are 4 willow remixes but putting more than one on a deluxe seems too unnecessary for her). 99% of the time, she only makes remixes for singles. meaning there are at least 2 singles planned with and/or prior to the album release. my guess is one on october 7 and one with the album release. idk just another theory
HELP, WHEN SHE SAID “MASTERMIND” INTO THE PHONE, WHY WAS IT GIVING “NOW GO STAND IN THE CORNER AND THINK ABOUT WHAT YOU DID” and also the bridge of enchanted……???!!!
I've been loving the sophistication Taylor has shown throughout this era. It feels like although she's still catering to the "now", she's moved into the refined, observational, legendary artist part of her career. I personally didn't want the album to be 'pop' but after seeing the visuals and aesthetics, I think 70s leaning pop makes sense and is still quite different from modern pop. So.. pop stans in general wanting a 1989 2.0 or a rep.20 (sonically) are going to be disappointed. Like you said, pop is very broad. I find it interesting though that you're thinking it's going to be a glittery gel pen album because it's giving me fountain pen vibes from the vinyl photoshoots.
to me mastermind sounds like a very tongue in cheek, petty almost bitter title. as if she is stroking someones ego and calling them a mastermind. kanye maybe
yeah im kind of feeling a negative, or not negative but pessimistic connotation here...maybe the pressure of being a 'great songwriter' and how that sets herself up for a harsh inner critic?
I got Kanye vibes when she picked up the phone. It could be either Kim/Kanye phone call masterminds in manipulating the phone call. 🤷🏼♀️ She used that phone for a reason and she changed the sound of her voice.
Three weeks ago I wrote this comment on Nicole Miller channel, under this particular video: m.ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-YGhsF_GoLgY.html "I have a theory that the name of the tracks are not yet reaveled, because she will reavel them, but one at the time! So let's say that in two weeks she will reveal name of track 2 (which will be single), after some time she will reavel name of track 10 and after some time she will reveal the name of track 6 and so on and on till its the night of the realase of the album when she will reveal the final name of the track, which will be either track 13 or track 5. This would make this album have this mysterious aura and it would spawn a WHOLE LOTTA theories 🌌„ I did NOT edit it. I feel like I am the mastermind
My guess is that’s she’s going to dress a different way for every “Midnight mayhem” depending on what the track is. Her looks could be a clue to what the song’s like or about.
The thing I’m absolutely *loving* about the Midnights era so far is the way it’s oozing Taylor’s confidence and self-assuredness. This Taylor has something she never had in her teens/20s, something the other pop girlies cannot and could not hope to have: she’s got nothing left to prove. She’s out here serving look after look, doing gloriously dorky promo skits, giving absolutely nothing away… I have to stan. I’m a similar vintage to Taylor, 30yo, and I’m just loving how comfortable she is in her own skin, in her stable relationship with a plethora of success and accolades under her belt- it reflects some of the changes I’ve experienced in my own life going from 20s to 30s, leaving many of those insecurities behind. I 100% agree with the EoS pod post vma observations- she’s sitting on something incredible, and she fucking knows it. I’m so, so excited.
I feel the same way. I think she doesn't have anything left to prove, but at the same time, she still has a lot of things to prove in ways we don't even think about. Would concept albums like this lead her to create a very new genre that nobody has even thought about and open more doors for creativity? Can her storytelling become even more detailed and lyrically visual to surpass that of the folk-more era? I'm so excited for Midnights and regardless of album genre and type, I'm just glad we're getting brand new recent music from her.
I don't think so, not completely, I see a dusk aesthetic ranging from yellows and oranges to dark blues and violet. So not completely orange, maybe as it's side a and side b each side has different color palettes
Do you think this is going to be a visual album? I mean, for this album I feel like the scenography in her vinyl covers/Easter egg videos is so important and detailed (like the cover of Red (Taylor's Version), with the road and the car that are related to all too well's video). I'm sorry; I'm probably saying bullshit and I'm also sorry for my bad English, I'm Italian.
you are completely fluent in English🖤Never doubt yourself and don’t let ppl make u doubt it either and yes…I think it’s a visual album bc of the amount of effort and promo around it. Ah I’m so hyped xo
I became a Taylor Swift fan backwards. I'm slightly over six months younger than her and I watched Miss Americana in July 2020 days before folklore debuted, then bought folklore and listened to her first nine albums. My first memory related to Taylor Swift is hearing Teardrops on My Guitar on the radio as my Dad taught me to drive in 2007. My husband, who is a big country fan, met Taylor at the Grange Fair in Pennsylvania in 2006.
My only guess is that her public appearance outfits are the hints of all the 13 sleepless nights she’s had written songs of Midnights for. Since the Midnight Mayhem started exactly a month before the release, what if she drops the track names every 2 days and drops an MV within the remaining days and the album on the 31st day? Like doing it slowly right now and then showering us all the details all in 1 month lol she loves it when we lose our minds so…
I literally CANNOT explain how excited I am for your midnights album reaction😭 And all these videos you’re making in anticipation for the album are so interesting and getting me so hype! Also I just wanted to say that I’m so happy for you that your videos are doing SO well recently and your channel is growing rapidly. You deserve it so much, and your videos truly make my day whenever they come out 🤍
Lover isn’t her best work but some SERIOUS gems are buried in the lengthy track list. It came out at a super important time for me in my life. Chapter by chapter, album by album, I feel a close parallel to her. I’m about a year younger than Taylor and have followed her career ever since my best friend in 10th grade played her self titled debut while on spring break. Fearless was the sound track to every school bus ride I took in the mornings and afternoons of my senior year… Red was so important to me at a time in my life when my ex and I were off and on for several years. 1989 saw me through the final break up with that ex. Reputation came out a little after I met by future husband and I could tell in Taylor’s songs she had found her man too. When Lover came out I had just said I DO! Our wedding colors were 🌈 so when the album dropped I felt such a strong connection to her imagery and writing. I was convinced by a lot of the lyrics and maybe still am that they secretly got married 🤔 💍 either way I love miss tay and will anxiously await Midnights 🌌 🤩 🌟
I wonder if every song title will reference something from the 70's era. Mastermind is a game from the 70's and with the red phone (LWYMMD) maybe shes hinting this is the night about the kanye incident. totally unhinged possibly reaching just want MORE answers LOL.
I definitely don’t see any album being a single style. She says the majority of her songs are fountain pen. I am expecting one glitter gel disco song with mirror ball lighting (maybe roller skates)… that would be such fun
I agree that this era has been fun so far!! Since we only have 4 weeks to go until album release do you think Taylor is going to be logging 3-4x a week to announce a new track on TikTok?? That’s soo much content 🤩
So I saw on instagram that Grammy 2022 eligibility closes on September 30th 2022 and that she is waiting until after they date to release the first single so that the album and the lead single are eligible for the same year at Grammys 2023 rather than it being nominated over two different years
honestly i don't see any way midnights will be a glitter gel pen album, the announcement text portrays it as something way too serious and emotional. i think it'll be fountain pen all the way. who knows though
If she drops content only week by week at least you can feed us in between. Loving it, thanks Zack! For all those who haven’t watched the videos he refers to in the end, please do! Maya is so fun to watch and clever + the Lorde video was soooo necessary for all Lorde fans out there. As always love the analytical touch you bring :)
TikTok is like a black hole but I have to say as a 38 year old swiftie who only joined TikTok because Taylor's on it that most of the big swiftie accounts I follow seem to be 30+ year old folks not little kids. In fact quite a few of them have kids. :) But I'll also say I've always been surprised by how young most of the kids look who get invited to her past secret sessions. Taylor's a bit like Harry Potter to me. A lot of us kids who grew up loving her or HP now have our own kids and get those kids fully hooked on her. 😁
Theory: So let's say she decides to announce one song title every day, for thirteen days. That means that, if we count today as the first day, the last song title would be announced on October third. October is the tenth month, and so: 10+3=13. Will we be getting a single that day?? I know this theory is probably very wrong, so don't take it too seriously.
I felt the speech was about her song writing skills in response to the shake it off lawsuit. Highlighting her skill and that the bridge in shake it off is her core point in the song not the chorus she’s being sued over
Love your videos! I'm going back to rewatch old ones as I wait for TTPD. Just want to say THANK YOU for not screaming into the microphone. My ears appreciate it!
Thank you soooo much for all the content!! I love watching you because you actually have opinions haha. I love when we disagree too it just makes it more fun. I’ve also been binging the podcast and have made it to Fearless TV within like the past week it’s so good
Zack! Hey bestie. I think she’s waiting until October to drop the album The Grammy cycle ends at the end of this month. So. I’d love some of your expert insight into the fact that Mastermind will serve 2 purposes!!! It’s track 13. It, most importantly , it’s the album Closer. She is superb at picking album closers. And they always serve a purpose. So mastermind must serve to close out the album and era.
I’ve watched that tiktok 3 trillion times and I still freak out everytime. MASTERMIND??!!!!! Oh and I’ve also done some calculations that she technically has to reveal two track names each week for it to add up to 13 by October 21st (Maybe she’ll reveal 3 tracks during the release week?)
But is the telephone not itself a clue?? Does it signify the infamous phonecall and how everything was masterminded......but then again why would that be the final track? So much to think about!!
Imo mastermind will be about being in a relationship with little to no communication. The game is about trying to guess somebody's code so maybe the song is about guessing their next moves or intentions. I'd say it won't be a sad song, more like frustrated and/or helpless. Like knowing the relationship's gonna fail but not accepting it.
If you listen to the music in the background of the Mastermind announcement it has ‘70s game show style music so your theory on it being a ‘70s style album is a great one. Also the clothes and photo shoot pics for the album all have ‘70s decor elements ♥️
Do you think she could have a song on Midnights about the night before her family moved to Nashville or maybe one about the night after she learned her mother had cancer?
