Folklore and Evermore aren’t enough. I want her to release an album with this type of songs. No beats, just an acoustic guitar strums and vocal harmonies.
She's always had a pretty voice. It doesn't work well with the pop she does. It's like how Miley Cyrus has a voice 100% built for country but she doesn't use it for that and sounds weird in everything she does. Taylor has a very light voice that would suit ethereal folk inspired music very well. Pretty much the kind of music that Joy Williams makes.
I'm not really a Taylor Swift fan, but she's undeniably talented...this video is proof of that. And her voice blends really well with theirs. Towards the end it almost sounds like a choir of angels singing or something...gave me chills. I love this band and I give mad props to Taylor for helping them write what in my opinion is one of their best songs.
Also its harder to sing in a stadium with so many people and you cant hear yourself. Pop melodies are hard to stay in tune, but still has a good voice.
Mini Rant LOL: i still can't believe people think she can't sing. Like bruh she CAN. Just because she can't hit high notes like Ariana doesn't mean she can't sing. I must admit that her voice isn't as strong but it's soft, soothing, relaxing and angelic. She also writes beautiful lyrics to her songs unlike other artists who have writers to write their songs.
And part of sounding nice is actually being able to stay in tune. Taylor Swift has issue with her tune and recently she's been getting breathless because of choreography and going out of tune even more.
@@angiewong2637 As someone who's been to the Reputation Tour, I can tell you that she has no problem with holding a tune. If you like, I can point you toward some excellent performances.
Everyone who learns how to sing can sing. Simply being able to sing and hitting high notes doesn't mak that person a good singer. No matter how good the singer's voice is, if the song is crappy then he/she isn't a good singer. They should be able to produce good songs that people love. If it has a deeper meaning and if people can relate, or if it's delivered in a unique way (like IKYWT, a sad song that was delivered in a catchy way), that makes the singer a good singer. Attitude, grattitude, effort, and other variables counts too. And all those positive things, Taylor has it.
I don’t think people realize how difficult it is to sing this song and sound as good as Taylor did. She is really an amazing vocalist and I feel like she doesn’t get enough recognition for it!!
True, its too breathy and risky for you to control your voice in order for it to not sound so shaky. Just because the song does not have a high note, does not mean its easy to sing it. She MAKES it looks so easy to sing. Her voice is magical.
@@sabhyata2655 Man I love seeing loyal swifties. That comment just made me emotional for no reason. Maybe it's the song but the genuineness behind those words is so beautiful
Taylor Swift was meant to be a folk singer, she should totally explore more this kind of singing and songwriting, just like she did in folkore and evermore but it could be more like this video here
+Jostrich Funny you said that....I actually discovered this band because I saw a picture of them on facebook and thought JP was Johnny Depp, so I did a reverse image search and found this amazing band. I'm so glad I discovered them, despite the fact that I'll never get to see them live. :-/
Jostrich that is not Johnny Depp dude. She actually has a lot of potential and talent. I don’t like her new music that is poppy. She should do country music again
it's definitely live. there's no need for any musical tracks that would give an opportunity for her to play a recorded voice because the guitar is live and so are the harmonies
That chubby guy with glasses at the front row when Taylor came out be like 'oh come on, not this bitch again.' And at the end he's like shaking his head in denial that Taylor totally slayed that song.
It's hard to believe this was 11 years ago. Honestly it was not when Buddy Holly's plane crashed that 'the music died'. The music died when The Civil Wars Duo went separate ways. Heartbreaking but thanks to Amada Young who shot and posted this so we can relive this amazing talent of John Paul White, Joy Williams, and of course Tayor Swift, who wrote and recorded this song together and performed it live at the Ryman Auditorium. We may never see them perform this alive again forever. But one can still dream of it.
I was at this show. The Ryman was the perfect venue for the Civil Wars. At that time, Taylor wasn't...well...like she is now. It was a big deal that she surprised the crowd, but, if this happened today the whole crowd would have fainted. This is the night I became a Taylor fan
Didn't you read the interview from The Civil Wars and T. Bone Burnett say that Taylor had written most of Safe & Sound by herself and they just helped a little, but most of the song was HER writing and skill.
Taylor's voice, combined with the now "de bunked", sadly, Civil Wars? Ugh. I love Taylor, she's an amazing singer/songwriter, but that mixed with that? Genius. Wish they would've made an album together.
GAH! Just amazing. Those harmonies... So ethereal and angelic. Joy Williams's high harmonies and vocalizations are simply amazing. I can't say enough words to give it justice. Just... WOW.
Reading the book, solely caught-up within Katniss' mind, with her thrust into the Hunger Games --- THIS song IS SO profound!! Idk how Taylor does it, but she PERFECTLY captures the fictional Katniss' thoughts and emotions PROFOUNDLY in song in these lyrics!! It is SO exceptional, it could be called one of her greatest songs...and then you think of Ronan, Last Kiss, The Best Day and you wonder...how many perfect, outstanding, excellent songs can TAYLOR write?? Prolly many more!!
I know!!! she CLEARLY loved and understood the books!!! she even said when they asked her to write a song about the movie and they explained the premise she expected to write an empowering badass song, but when she read the books she realized it had to be a lullaby. She GETS it. Making a "badass" song in a style like Imagine Dragons would've been a disservice for the franchise, it'd have glamorized the trauma and horrors of the games like it's just a cool competition. Very Capitol-esque if you think about it.
I'd so love to see Taylor collaborate with both of these wonderful musicians again. I just feel like their personalities AND their voices meshed so perfectly with her. She's one of the very few people on this earth who might be able to make them work together again, but beyond that, I'd love to see her write and perform songs with either of them. Imagine a Taylor/Joy collab, OR a Taylor/John Paul effort. Both would be amazing. Just think of the harmonies...the magical lyrics...the sweet melodies. *sigh*
Why can't taylor post this video on her channel? so haters who only find her mistakes will finally get it that she can sing very very gooddd!!! I don't understand why do people hating on her and said her voice was so bad , why do people dont find the good sides and always find the wrong sides of her to taking her down , come on people u need to live your life without judging another before you know what you've become!!!!
i can’t get over this performance. it sounds exactly like the studio version and TAYLOR HARMONIZES SO PERFECTLY WITH THE CIVIL WARS, IT’S UNREAL! you’d think they were singing together since childhood
Taylor made folklore coz she read all the comments here which said "I wish Taylor would sing more like this". SHE GAVE YALL A WHOLE ALBUM OF SAFE & SOUND 😭❤️
I remember tears streaming down your face When I said, "I'll never let you go." When all those shadows almost killed your light I remember you said, "Don't leave me here alone," But all that's dead and gone and passed tonight Just close your eyes The sun is going down You'll be alright No one can hurt you now Come morning light You and I'll be safe and sound Don't you dare look out your window, darling. Everything's on fire The war outside our door keeps raging on Hold onto this lullaby Even when the music's gone Gone Just close your eyes The sun is going down You'll be alright No one can hurt you now Come morning light You and I'll be safe and sound Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh La, la (la, la) La, la (la, la) Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh La, la (la, la) Just close your eyes You'll be alright Come morning light, You and I'll be safe and sound... Ooh, ooh, ooh, ooh, oh, oh
If Taylor has a surprise performance of this for Eras Tour I would cry 😭😭😭😭 Love the Taylor's Version she released of this song. I can't believe she got them both to sing on it!! It's so gorgeous 😍 I dream of seeing this in person one day the trio of them. They made such a great writing team. I don't know much about Civil Wars but I know they always make magic happen and Taylor is my absolute favorite. Hauntingly Enchanting. I'll Keep My Eyes Open and keep hoping one day, maybe.
Back again for the millionth time after listening to Taylor’s version just released March 2023. Makes my heart ache thinking JP and Joy actual recorded something together recently even though I’m sure they were not together in person. ❤💔
BEST EVER!! This song, by Taylor and the Civil Wars is amazing. It IS the exact dipiction of the Hunger Games book. What an amazing song. And the BEST VIDEO of the performance. THANK YOU for posting!!!!!!!
Folklore and Evermore would like to say hi (Also songs form Lover and Midnight like The Archer, Bigger Than The Whole Sky, Soon You’ll Get Better, The Great War, Sweet Nothing, You’re On Your Own Kid, Daylight, Cornelia Street, and Labyrinth. Plus Carolina, Birch, Rennegae, and Nothing New)
Resha Fadillah no, they have their own family. I think that's the reason why they separated. There's a theory that Joy and JP White fell in love with each other but they had to choose their family, they didn't want scandal or cheating so they decided to end the band. But still it's just a theory
And they say Taylor can't sing and that she only compose breakup songs. This performance is the TRUTH. She is a lady that has an angelic voice, creative and deserves every bit of love and fame she has :)
This sounds cheesy, but it's the way my brain sees this video. I like to imagine Taylor as a totally sheltered child, totally unaware of the world around her. In this case, the world is going to be based around music, because what else is really important besides that? She's learning what music does to you at a deeper level other than get stuck in your head. And John Paul and Joy are like two spirits of music because every time they sing something, it's a beautiful and haunting harmony that Taylor watches them make and she gets nestled deeper into what music can really FEEL like with each note. Each time one of them sing, Taylor turns and stares in what seems like awe and I think that makes this performance beautiful. And by the end of the whole song, she's the one facing forward, staring at the crowd, giving them what she has just been given.
holy crap this is good. You can tell how Tay-tay's voice has matured ae? like she used to have pitch issues when she sung her old stuff. but now she plays recently created songs she nails it
