It has that beautifull sound, very very closed to the 303, actually it is the same just age is different and some components maybe slightly different from another, that can change a little the vibration. But even one TB-303 can sound slightly different from another TB-303 it's because of analog sound and so much transistors and resistors inside. That's why other clones are different. Their circuit has a different architecture and their parts are different. The RE-303 has exactly the same architecture and almost the same parts. The analog sound is part of the physical world and it changes throw time like everything in this world : it is getting old.
No you can't. At least, no more than you would hear a difference between two TB-303s. The RE-303 literally *IS* a TB. Every component is the same and the PCBs are exactly the same.
Good old days! When RB-338 synth demo version hit my eyes and ears... a week later I tried to record PCF vibes to a CrO2 TDK 90 casette through the jack plug (SB AWE 32)
I have the black RE303 and I adore it - yet, I, subtle as it is, there is just "that" difference between the resonance between your two units. Then again, I've heard other RE's perform identically to the 303 they were up against. It'll never end
No two TB-303s sound exactly alike, and I have a feeling that the same can be said for the RE-303s. If one or the other gets you the results you're after that's all that matters right?
This is exactly why I finally ponied up the cost for an actual 303. Esp after using a xoxbox. So worth it- plus the return value will be retained once I have my fill. It’s a disappointment that in 43 years no device has been a true emulation.
The nerd could ask: couldn't the signal paths differ through the diffrent amp volumes? I heard that the 303 gets light drive through itself at max volume. For me in conclusion, the original tb sounded better again, a bit rounder. But maybe I will never know :D
Good nerd question! definitely the volume output influences the sound, but in this case i tried to put both in a “standar volume setup” and yes; the original tb sounds a little more “crunchy” to my ears ( like most vintage hardware )
LOL, my girlfriend says; The difference between the original and the clone, sounds like those (green) peppers on the desk.. I feel the same about 'proper' clones. Old sound with a modern edge.
My Tb-303 sounds far more organic, warmer, fuller, more bass than my re-303. Night and day, maybe the re-303 just sounds brand new and will age like a fine wine?
