Been a Pink Floyd fan for fifty years. My favorite way to listen to them is in a recliner, in the evening, lights down low, with a glass of good bourbon.
I had the chance to see this show two nights in a row during their visit to the Olympic Stadium in Montreal on May 23 and 24, 1994. Since I worked night shifts, I had to go to work after the show, and the buddies at work looked at me like I was high on drugs, yet I hadn't taken anything. With Pink Floyd, no need for drugs to get high, their music is more than enough and in addition, there is no danger of overdose. But seeing them performing can become addictive, hence the reason for seeing this show twice.
Dang, I saw them in the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, NY with just a few beers on board and had to tap the guy in front of me on the shoulder to ask him if a giant pig with laser eyes was staring at him too....I can't imagine dropping before this one...I thought someone spiked my beer as it was....but didnt care!
The guitar is a "Pedal Steel", he used it quite a bit. I was at one of those Earls Court shows, this number was the last before the interval and it really blew the roof off. Off to see Gilmour at the Albert Hall in London in October, can't wait.
The lyrics were growled by drummer Nick Mason “One of these days I will cut you into little pieces” , sounded like a monster voice before the change of the tempo.
In my sixties now and my partying days are far behind me but, back in the day a little smoke never hurt anything. Be it a bong hit chased with some OJ and Bugs Bunny on a Saturday morning or smoking a J Friday evening with the Floyd on the turntable.
i didn't need drugs to listen to pink floyd even seeing them live like that! you felt like you were on a high afterwards though! Simply amazing experience!
Excellent choice for review. PULSE was a *staggeringly* good concert. Caught it with 65,000 friends. The audio quality is excellent throughout, and the light show……well, you’ve seen it. Any song from this show will be exceptional, and a fine choice for another reaction. The only lyric in this song (“One of these days, I’m going to cut you into little pieces!”) reportedly goes all the way back to when Floydicus Pinkus was just an up-and-coming English band, and the days when you edited magnetic recording tape with razor blades and editing blocks. The Floyd felt that a BBC personality who interviewed them spent most of the interview loving the sound of his own voice. Afterwards, one of the band members expressed the desire to edit him out of the interview recording. This would involve physically cutting him out of the taped recording, leaving many little bits of his talking in mag-tape pieces on the floor. Hence the desire to ‘cut him into little pieces’. Sounds much better than physically cutting someone up. Well, to me, anyway.
I saw Pink Floyd twice. The first time, U2 played the previous weekend. I didn't smell any weed. The following weekend, I saw Pink Floyd, everyone was lighting up. I didn't want any substances. I want to remember it. You don't need anything for a Pink Floyd show. Just enjoy the show. I have had people tell me they were so drunk or stoned at a concert that they don't remember it. I think that is sad. First, you spent all that money. Then you wanted to have memories, yet you have no memories.
Straight up, i was on some acid, the show i went to was at ASU stadium in Tempe AZ, it is an open stadium no roof, and I swear I thought they were controlling the weather, some songs it'd start to sprinkle some songs it'd clear up some songs it'd get cloudy and a little windy, this happened to be the last song before the first intermission and I was so glad it was cause I thought I was gonna lose my mind, I also thought those pigs were gonna get loose. They were stowed in some weird almost PacMan shaped containers, the word leading up to this concert was they were gonna bring the absolute newest and baddest lights and sound system so when i had seen the things they were in I just figured they were some crazy ass speakers or some shit.
Pink Floyd is an experience! Saw them in the 70s following the release of their album, "Animals." Of course they did a lot of "Dark Side Of The Moon'" and this from their "Echoes" album. Back in the day in my hometown, Chicago.
My favourite band for over half a century, in answer to your question re drugs,, you didn't need drugs for Floyd however you did need Floyd for the drugs, a little weed headphones and a good sound system, two volumes for Floyd, loud and loudest,
I'm 69. I saw Pink Floyd playing this track, on the TV, on the Old Grey Whisle Test, when I was 17. Because of that I went out and bought my first album (LP) I was going to buy Meddle but they were sold out - so I bought Monster Movie Made In A Castle With Better Equipment. (Can not Floyd)
Not everyone was on stuff at these concerts, though many were! Another great song from this concert is "High Hopes," along with "Sorrow." Definitely check out "Time" though (live or studio)!
If you think this was wild, check out In the Flesh. A full size plane flies over the crowd and crashes into the right of the stage at the end of the song. My jaw hit the floor.
From where I was sitting, I couldn't take my eyes off the pigs...suckers looked like they were comming for me with those laser eyes and I had to ask the dude in front of me if he saw a ginormas pig with laser eyes too....
they DID sing, everyone misses it from talking over it, the lyrics are "one of these days, im going to cut you into little pieces" only sings it once in the whole song, right in the middle,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
You don't need drugs with Floyd you will get high on the music. The lyrics for this song in the middle are "One of these days I'm going to cut you into little pieces"
There is one verbal line in this song “One of these days I’m going to cut you into little pieces.” It’s really hard to hear but it happens right before the song REALLY kicks into high gear. I suggest listening to it again and trying to find the lyric.
Are you saying you think we were taking enhancement chemicals??? No. Say it ain't so. LOL Honestly, you really didn’t need to take or smoke anything at a Pink Floyd concert. The sounds and sights were enough to get you high. But it didn’t hurt to get a little prepared before the show began.
