@@redpillredpill3216 What's unique to me is the fact that the chaos in the aftermath of losing someone isn't what Kip is writing about. He's writing about his own pain for having to break his lovers heart. The song reflects what he has been through, he had his heart broken too. Saying goodbye isn't easy. Everyone will battle that. It's not a 'woe is me' song,. It's a song of compassion for the one he once loved.

I was 12 to 21 from 80-89 and this was and still is my favorite genre of music. To me these guys were like the modern day version of the classical masters. I mean come on, the name Sebastian Bach, the wild hair, and the guitar play was ridiculous. Imho, the best guitarists in the history of rock music.

I was unaware I was holding my breath when the video stopped @ 7:11 !! I noticed then I was waiting for it to play out so I could exhale! I saw these guys perform live in my twenty's in 1990 and I was impressed with the level of musianship of the band & totally mesmerized with Kip Winger. The Spell I'm Under still holds me in my fifty's in 2022! This is the perfect song. Performed with perfect feeling by the only humans on Earth that could possibly execute this level of maximum impact to HIT SO HARD in the perfect spots. YOUR MIND & Feelings! Kip Winger is the Maestro behind assembling this incredible band of incredible musicians. He, himself, is a perfect musician wrapped in the most perfect packaging. (This video shows he was undoubtedly the most handsome man on the planet along with a superpower sex appeal so superior it drew envy). I am glad he is getting his due respects. He put the work in and he persevered the storms of envious ridicule. He is a King in my music storybook. He has made me proud and validated my feeling pity on anyone smallminded enough to make light of his talent. For the past 30+ years I stood my ground and I savor having the last laugh. It was inevitable he would have the last laugh.. pheasants!! HA!. (Lars, you ugly little twatroll, the envy was obvious when the dart was seen across the world being thrown).

One of my favorite songs of the glam era! Winger continued releasing great music and are one of the most underrated, underappreciated bands to come out of this era. Both solos are gold, especially the outro. Having Rod Morgenstein, a drumming legend, in your band doesn't hurt either! If you don't know his instrumental band The Dixie Dregs with Steve Morse on guitar, check em out. Jazz meets funk and fusion

I'm so glad that this reviewer touches on Reb Beach's technique of using pauses and spaces in his playing. I noticed in many of his solos even in other bands like Whitesnake that Reb will let his solos breathe and it has a tendency to give them life making them unique and unlike any other virtuoso.

As you mentioned about the song “Seventeen”, that was definitely a major shift for the band as a whole. The musicianship of the band and how well they played together, and how everything was put together was still very solid the band itself took a huge hit from the critics about the meaning of the song. I feel that the band or Kip Winger himself could not break out of the criticism from the one song (Seventeen) and were just not given any type of redemption after the song came out. The band was just only singing about how things were during that particular time period and actually had enough guts to truly say just what was common practice during that time frame. He has been able to record newer music and songs with other artists now that were famous and very popular during that time frame. I just don’t think that the band would ever be able to truly make a sound like they had back then without many critics trying to say that what they did was wrong. I definitely have the opinion that many younger women were doing anything possible to make sure that they could get backstage regardless of what ever future things might have happened. There were so so many different bands that all had such a huge impact during that particular time frame that they either were very careful with how they either chose to play the ignorant position or just flat out ignored what was reality. All bands had so many younger fans that were willing to get a chance of being near those musicians that they would do just about anything. You can even look into the fact that many of the bands are getting back together again to tour and play all of their hits to newer younger fans like it’s the first time they are being found again. I am just sharing my opinions and that is it.

I don't remember critic one coming out against the song Seventeen, as a matter of fact there several other songs also titles 17 coming out be fore and after. It was the bevis and butthead thing that killed them with people who only k follow trends but they by music too.

I think at least 50% of what makes that end solo work so well is the chord progression and bass notes underneath it. It veers off into some really interesting intervals and grinds against the solo phrasing in a cool way. Reb uses the space very well too, as you pointed out. Great song.

In 1986, I saw the Bullet Boys, Winger and Cinderella in Grand Forks, North Dakota. I was there to see Bullet boys, and they did not disappoint. I was closeted about Winger, since you weren't supposed to like them amongst my peer group. And Cinderella honestly was terrible. Winger produced some good music, with the unfortunate timing of being popular during the hair band/glam era. It was a bit of a supergroup, with unreal talent.

I'm going to have to give these guys a second chance. When I was a teen (late 1980s), these guys were the joke band for us metalheads, and it was implied that anyone listening to Winger was a poser. Sadly, that attitude, along with my native teenage stupidity ("if it's not Metallica, it's not cool!") deprived me of much musical enjoyment back then. Fortunately I grew up and turned on a few more brain cells, so now I'm far more open to various types of rock music. This is a pretty cool song after all, except that silly, "Don't make me hurt you!" line, which always makes me laugh.
