Alternate momentary footswitch action: this is a feature on the device. When you tap on the foot switch the light does not stay on any more, it will only work when you hold the switch down with your foot. To enable or disable this, power up the unit while holding the TONE button until the Harmony LED flashes twice. The unit will remain in this alternate mode during subsequent power-ups until the procedure is repeated.
Thanks Sean! I've been listening to harmony processors for an hour, and this is the first demo that actually DEMONSTRATES... Great to hear a variety of styles & cadences, but especially nice that you add the notes so we know if we are 3rd or 4th, above or below, or combo thereof. Best Demo Anywhere! TC Helicon should pay you.
Sean, I truly love your wide range of musical choice/taste. Your great vocal and musical versatility gives you tremendous appeal to this listener, and I would imagine many more as well. Keep singing and posting, for yourself and for us.
Thanks so much! TC Helicon really hit the nail on the head with this pedal, it virtually sells itself. I could go on and on about all of its user friendly features! Good luck in your musical journey, and if you ever do buy this unit, keep me posted on your progress. As always, feel free to send me any questions you might have about the unit, and I'll help you to the best of my knowledge. Thanks again!
hi sean I have just ordered a TC Helicon Harmony Singer after watching your video. love your singing and I hope it sounds as good when I use it .keep singing country .
I'm so glad you asked this question! While the "adaptive tone" button cleans up your signal immensely, it doesn't shape it to the point of making your other mics sound bland. I wondered the exact same thing purchasing this unit, afraid I was going to have to buy 2 more for my other singers! When you get your PA to a gigging volume, the "adaptive tone" just kind puts your eq in that sweet spot, even you're running your highs, mids and lows all flat. It really gives you an audio blueprint on…
great demo.. nice job. I like the way you played many different popular songs. Most of the demos I have never heard of any of the songs and was looking for a demo like yours.
Great question. It works great with 48v mics, such as condensers. Since it has built in phantom power (48v), you won't have any issues at all! You're all set to go! Thanks for stopping by.
Ditto what everybody else is saying. Excellent video because you used some popular songs that also lend themselves well to use with this TC Helicon Harmony Singer. Really showed its capabilities perfectly. Great job, sir!
Update here, since everyone is asking about how this pedal works with distortion the answer is yes! I used it live to cover Warrant, Stryper, scorpions, ect and works great! My guitar sound wasn't affected at all.
I will post a video with distortion later and by distortion I mean a 120 watt tube hi gain amp. The pedal will not affect your tone in any way. I'm very happy with this pedal.
Glad to hear that you found a solution. If you ever have any other issues with the pedal, feel free to drop me a line! PS. I was always partial to the 3rd above harmony…good luck.
Let me know what you think of it! I sold mine about two years ago, but not because I didn't like it. I've just got great singers in my band, so it was more of just a novelty for solo gigs. Haha.
I think the Harmony Singer was designed with straight forward simplicity in mind. To the less tech savvy of us out there, the G-XT might come off as a little intimidating, where as the Harmony Singer's 3 button configuration can be adjusted quickly on the fly, with less "tinkering" in between harmonies. I've been fortunate enough to use both units, and they're both equally great with harmonies! The Harmony Singer's biggest selling point is it's nearly zero learning curve. Both are great units!
Great job Sean.. Excellent vocals brother.. brought one of these Harmony singers home yesterday to demo, and after your review it'll be easier to use, thanks man
Great demo, is it possible to take the harmony vocals output only, thinking it would be great writing tool if i could get the harmonies on a stereo track in pro tools .
You are most welcome Sean. I play in a band too in Singapore, and we do most of the songs that you sang like from The Mavericks, Eagles, CSNY etc. I must say you did a good job with the demo and I'm thinking of getting one here in Singapore but they ran out of stock as it is a hot selling item here. Take care buddy and hope to hear more demos from you.
Excellent demo! I have fallen in love with this pedal for our acoustic duo. The biggest challenge is becoming coordinated enough to switch it on and off quickly throughout songs. I find that tunes such as "If I had a Million Dollars" and "Chicken Fried", I have to do a tap dance routine to get it right. Once you get comfortable with that part of it, it is a great asset. It is funny how you can pick out any Alabama or Eagles tune and the thing pretty much does all the work for you.
+Kurt Schoenfielder there's a secret that could help you out TONS! They don't advertise it much, but on the pedal, there's actually a way to switch modes so instead of clicking it on and off, you just leave your foot on it when you want harmony, and take it off when you want it to stop. Does that make sense? It turns it into a momentary switch. I can't remember how to do it, something like holding the button while powering it on or something, I'm sure there's literature online for it. It helped me immensely. Much more simplistic. Hope that helps buddy!
I will look into that. Thank you. It never fails, we just had a gig this past weekend and a couple guys came up to me and asked how I was able to get those great harmonies. It's the magic box that has paid for itself many times over.
Great question! The TC-Helicon Mic Mechanic and Harmony Singer can only be used as a standalone pedal. That's a really good idea you have though, I can totally understand why you'd want to use both! Unfortunately, they just don't have that capability. Again, good question and as always, stop back by anytime!
…where to set the levels for the rest of your mics as far as eq'ing is concerned. I often use the box to hit the 5th above while my backup singer is hitting the 3rd, which blends the sound wonderfully! So all on all, if anything I'd say it enhances your other mics by setting the "tone" for the others to be eq'd. This was a great question, and a good idea for the next feature demo of this product!
Awesome! Thanks for the compliment! When you get yours keep me posted on your progress! Also, if you encounter any problems, swing back by and we'll get them worked out. Congrats on your purchase!
Very nice vid. It works really nicely with the country tracks but the Simon & Garfunkel ones compliment the 4th belows really nicely. Good job man comprehensive work
Ok this is a perfect review. Thank you sir. I don´t know if this has been asked before: I own the harmony GXT (and like it) - but it´s not so perfect sometimes with the voices - can you compare those 2?
Great question! Have you tried dialing back the gain on the mixer that you're using? A friend of mine had a similar issue, it can be tricky sometimes when you have more than one gain dial to tweak in. If you've already tried this and it's been unsuccessful, let me know them we'll take it from there. Thanks for the question.
If you've asked me a question on here and I haven't responded directly, try sending me a message, for some reason my ipad won't let me reply to some of you! Thanks for stopping by friends!
Late to the party here but does the pedal work without the guitar input used ? Fantastic demo btw, I've been trawling the internet looking at pedals for a vocalist.
Great question! The harmonies really follow the key of the instrument plugged into it, that's how it follows your harmony while it's activated. While it would "work" I don't think you would achieve your desired results.
It will still give you harmonies, but using this unit without a guitar is very unconventional simply because the key of the guitar guides the key of the harmony. So, although it will still add harmonies to your voice, they won't necessarily be in the correct key. Great question though, I'm asked the very same thing quite often. Hope this helped!
hello my brother and I want to find out for sure way to ask if the Harmony Singer works well with condenser microphones requiring 48v mic such as that I have I
On the song "Holy Water" it sounds like you stay on the same note but the harmony slides up on the end of the word farther and on the end of the word water. Is someone else singing with you or does this box know to do that? I assumed what the box was doing was just harmonizing what the person singing into the mic was doing. Am I wrong?
Good ear! It's actually the harmony adjusting to the not the guitar is following. Since natural vocal harmony follows the same idea of following the melody, the pedal does the same. It's a pretty smart box really. Glad you found this video!
Great Demo bro. you did a bloody good job on the songs and you selection of songs are awesome. That guy,Chris Brown don't know anything about great classic harmony songs. He should expand his repertoire and genre of music and listen more to all kinds of good music.
I'd say you'd be making a wise decision! If you get the pedal and ever have any questions, stop back by and we can sort them out I'm sure! Take care, thanks for the comment.
No Kidding Sean, You are dead on with your presentation ... So relaxed and excellent in your explanations! How does this sound when you are going though the box and the other singer in the band is not. Does it make the other fellow sound out of place?
Will this work with an electric guitar which has crunch and slap delay on it? Or is it really aimed semi-acoustic players? It seems to me like an electric guitar with effects might confuse it, especially if your playing fills instead of straight strumming?
I think this pedal would need to be used sparingly when playing in a bar - the audience could get a little sick of an effects unit (hiding behind it). BUT if you kick it on for the chorus - that could be nice!! Sean, could you turn it down so it's about 30% of the mix rather than the 50% you're at in the video? Also, when you bypass the harmonies you can still have the reverb present right?
Beautiful singing and sounds so good...if it is the Harmony Singer do you think I should go for it? please advise. I'm looking for something simple! thanks
With the level control all the way up, will I only hear Harmony vocals and no lead vocals? I use a similar device that is quite old and bulky. I struggle singing harmony in certain keys. So, with the device i have now i can crank the level all the way up and it eliminates the lead vocal and only hear the harmony coming out. This allows me to sing backup vocals for the songs that i struggle harmonizing on in my band. Will this device do this?
Actually, and I mean no offense, but this pedal would actually eliminate the need for backup singers. It builds the harmonies off of the melody line, so really, just hook it up to the lead singer's mic and that's all you need. If you like being in your band, I probably wouldn't show this to your bandmates, especially if you're having troubles hitting the harmonies.
dunno man...I think it sounds too artificial is there a way to fade it so it's real subtle in the background? I want to hear someone singing falsetto with it because I suspect it would sound more authentic that way.
Great demo and your voice sounds terrific. I do have a question though? I've been considering this or the older Voicetone G-XT. Other than the slightly smaller footprint and slightly cheaper price (G-XT can be had new for $200 on Amazon), why would someone purchase this over the Voicetone Harmony G-XT? The G-XT seems to have a lot more features/functions.
This is a cracking demo. Might just grab myself one of these. One thing though - that intro bit of swelling music. What other videos use that?! It's a fairly well known bit of intro music, and the one I'm thinking of has these sorts of strikes after it where there's text that shows up on the screen. Please, it's killing me.
Hey Sean, I think I am going to this to use for church. what reverb setting do you use in this video? Also, would I set everything to flat on sound board?
Meyer Family Videos I like just a little bit of that club reverb, I don't over do it, just a little. Also, you can start with a flat signal at the board, and then just dial it in to your liking afterwards. The "TONE" feature on the pedal does a great job getting you started though. Good luck, I hope it works out for you!
I'd put the Mic Mechanic first (set the gain as per the manual, reverb/delay off), then run into the Harmony Singer (with its gain turned all the way down, TONE off).
Hey Sean, thanks for your great review. I found it very useful that you sang excerpts of many songs that I know and could see how it performed against the originals (quite well by the way!). This sets you apart from some of the harmonist demos out there. The trick for a soloist would be using it sparingly and mixing the harmony vocal so it is not too dominant. I was thinking about getting the Boss VE-2, but this sounded very good. Thanks again.
Sounds great man! I recently borrowed my friends pedal and covered Luke Bryan's Drink a Beer song. Check it out if you get a chance. I'll have to attempt some of the songs you performed here, but I need more practice. You make it look easy!
Harmony Singer provides +24V phantom power only. Many condenser mics can operate using phantom values from +9V to +52V, though you may find certain condensers will not function, or will not function correctly unless supplied the nominal voltage of +48V. You will not harm your mic if it does not have enough voltage to power it properly.
if you are using this while singing and using an electric guitar with effect pedals, is it best to plug the electric guitar into the guitar pedal or this?
But the question is: does it work with power chords as well? In general, you really need to define a third in a chord as it defines whether a chord is major or minor.
I have a TC Helicon perform V and I can't figure out how to work the harmony function. It's what I bought it for because I have gigs with a band but no background singers other than musicians multi tasking which isn't always ideal. All I can work is a function that creates a bottom bass voice & a double voice with the same note with reverb & echo...FRUSTRATED.
If you run audio from your keyboard through a Harmony Singer, it'll work just fine. You'd get the best results if you only send left hand chord stuff and also have chorus/reverb off on the keyboard output.
I'm going to buy one of these but I can already see the temptation to over use it. I don't want to sound like the Gatlin Brothers all the time. That said, I can't wait to get one.
You're both right. I exaggerated it some for the video, just to kinda show the dynamics of the harmonies. But it's definitely a tool that should be used sparingly!
Yep. I actually may use it in 90% of the songs I play but only in places that will enhance it. The only job I've had since 1974, has been as a singing guitarist soloist. I wish they invented the TC Telicon 45 years ago.
