Your story has motivated me to go all in.....again. I'm a Marine vet that has felt lost for some time now. Nothing to my name and a shitty life. Watching you made me decide to change things. Now I'm contacting a recruiter for US Border Patrol. Thank you for lighting a fire under my ass. I needed it

French citizen here… Thanks a lot for your videos. SEALs are world famous. Our Legion Étrangère is legendary here and also known in the whole world. When you meet legionnaires on their free time they are incredibly generous guys with « big hearts » as we say here. On duty they are phenomenal warriors respected and feared everywhere. As a French guy as many others, much respect for being a SEAL. But being a Legionnaire, fighting for our country 🇫🇷 patroling for Vigie Pirate in my country hits completely differently. Tu es aussi francais maintenant ! I hope you ll find what you re looking for in The Legion and that you are enjoying France and our culture. Many thanks and respect for joining the Legion Étrangère. 🙏 🤙 🇫🇷

Woah, I was KFOR in 1999 too! Truck driver TFA 5000 as a civvy.... Skopje...etc and Pristina. Two of us fell asleep waiting for the convoy to move, it moved alright, but without us sleeping beauties. Woke up bang in nomansland, me in a 7.5t and this huge artic from....Slovakia..? We went to catch up the convoy at dawn, the Macedonian cops waved us to a parking lot full of civvy non KFORS, we would have been stopped there for effing days, but big truck from Slovakia just went in one entrance and out the other...I followed him we burnt down that road, eventually caught up with the convoy, being run and marshalled by a young Para Sargent and his squad, being MP's, showing more management expertise than the whole of the UN in their warm 4x4s with UN painted on pristine white sipping on Cappuccinos and writing shit on papers, phonies, The Macedonian cops thought we had just jumped the convoy and took big guy to the cash machine ATM to fine his ass but the young Para Sergent stood in and explained to the cops, in no uncertain terms, that we were part of our convoy. He had to negotiate and handled it well and won. Kudos to that young soldier, I'll never forget. I'd been driving alone forever, it was nice to be in the cosy convoy at last, protected by the Paras. We all made it to the TFA5000 site, the Americans were directing traffic on the roundabout. It was a freezing cold, misty morning, like something out of a war movie. We arrived safely, I wanted brekky but just slept and slept. I woke at midnight and chatted with the guard - a military girl who was wearing double coats and clothing because she had double influenza and she was doing guard duty in -5degC, FFS! Respect!

I was stuck with debt , high rent, working two jobs, and then I was thinking about joining the French Foreign Legion as a way out of my madness. After watching your videos, I’ve realized that the process of joining the Legion is more than simply a process, it’s a metaphor for life change. Walking through a single door, handing over your passport, stripped of all worldly possessions and your identity. Saying farewell to your loved ones and your past. What you’re left with is what’s on your back and what’s in your heart, allowing you to rediscover who you truly are. Twice in my life I’ve been stripped down to the utter necessities and had to face abrupt circumstances, it’s in those moments that true growth are possible. Truly inspiration story. Such candor and insight. Good luck and keep us posted.

Myself and others, i'm sure are past the age to take that journey into the French Foreign Legion, but there are other options to grow. Daily reflection is so true. When one is trapped in their own cage. Look around you. The key is on the inside. Great personal accomplishment to you. Best of luck with yourself. I believe some of us create chaos consciously in our lives because it's the chaos that keeps us challenged and needing to solve the problem we create. That may sound strange, but it keeps us on the edge of life rather than living under a safety net. However, as long we don't hurt the ones we love. Life "is" our own personal struggle and achievement.

Sorry I couldn't make it through the entire soap opera. Let me recap. You were given the opportunity to be a seal, a position that people would cut off their rt nut for. Despite being a SEAL you thought it was ok to get into a barroom fight. Your country slaps your wrist and your retained. As soon as the limelight was taken off you do it again. Despite the crimes committed you got a general discharge. What a "gift" You were so grateful you traveled to Europe to join a Military group that is not the U.S's We all screw up. You placed your needs above the SEALS twice. I understand and can relate with it all, except your lack of accountability. The Legion is an option, and maybe it will help you get it together. Sir you are not a SEAL. A SEAL would not draw his mates into any controversy. The reason you were not jailed or given LTHD is because they wanted to be rid of you ASAP. You know what I'm saying is fact. What do you think happens when your C.O. has to explain to the DOD why Special Forces has a troop that can't follow basic rules and runs to another country. The DOD would want to know why the C.O. allowed this to happen how good of a leader can he be? Your telling your story to find some sort of resolution or maybe a pat on the back, but you're still placing your needs above the righteous SEALS. You go join the military in another country ok, but do it alone. All that was given to you wasn't enough. If it were you wouldn't be here on RU-vid. Good Luck, if the Legion dumps you I'm sure you could go red. I say this with great empathy, no-one will want you until you like yourself. Get of the drugs for good and get counseling and you will go so much farther, and find piece. And I think you deserve it and are worth it. Remember lose the I and use we instead. Best of luck Sir.

I considered joining the legion in 1996 after I got destroyed in family court. I just couldn’t leave my Sons. I dealt with the consequences and pain. In the end I regained custody of my Sons. Some things are worth the struggle. Semper Fi.

I decided to post your last two videos to my Facebook because they send a message about being motivated, and not giving up on yourself even if you find yourself mired in a dark place. Maybe your story will be that kick in the ass someone else may need. There is a difference in knowing you're in a dark place, and taking the first step to get out of that world of shit. Keep on getting up in the morning and walking that walk all the way.

Taylor Cavanaugh: Your Naval Service as a U.S. Navy SEAL ,and Now, an Active Duty French Foreign Legionnaire is very awe inspiring, but , what really and truly got Me ( almost choked up and teary eyed!) was that You Yourself mentioned the real and true horrors of homelessness, substance abuse, and the trials by 🔥 that All Warfighters , does NOT matter whether United States Armed Forces or even Foreign Military , goes through " The Crucible" of hard knocks, and, that You even put Your Trust and Faith in GOD( Father, Son, Holy Spirit), for " The LORD is a Warrior, The LORD is His Name"( Exodus 15:3)!! I'm a white South African and 6 years ago I lost everything due to drugs and the wrong people. I sold my motocross bike and my bakkie (pick-up truck) and partied until I have just enough left to join the FF Legion. I also got there on a Sunday - in the middle of the winter - and went straight to the Aubagne office. Sat there in the cold snow for about 1 hour and started the pull ups. I was not able to pass the stupid pull up test and was turned away right there....my whole life turned upside down and all I ever wanted was to join the military especially the FF Legion and within less than 2 hours I got sent back to South Africa. I'm in awe that you were able to turn your life around. Well done brother.

Here's a question for you mate: In video 2 you explain how you can be waiting 2-3 years to get your passport back to visit home. Do you get your cell phone while in the FFL so you can text or call home whenever you want or do they completely strip you of anything to do with the outside world with only authorized calls from them?

That still messes with my head to this very day! Thanks for sharing your story Taylor. I met some of your fellow legionnaires from 2nd Foreign Infantry Regiment on a multinational exercise in Australia a few months ago. I had a good conversation over breakfast with a legionnaire who had been in for 12 years, originally from Argentina. He said after 12 months in his then wife gave him an ultimatum - her or the legion, he chose the legion. His plan was to stay in until 20 years when he is then eligible for his pension. All the best to you.
