as someone who buys on tcgplayer and sells in direct. I think they are tired of it. I buy NM always and only sell NM. i would say over half the time a sellers NM I buy is at the very least LP MP... its annoying as a buyer. Us sellers should be accountable for the stock we put out.
@CNA-Games
@CNA-Games Месяц назад
Absolutely, but as there is not any formal training or documents for direct sellers to condition things, we are left to own own devices to train staff and make sure we are using their point system correctly. And even then, there will always be some subjectivity to it.
@GloveTouchedCollectibles

@@CNA-Games Agree, I didn't like how abruptly it was rolled out, as you said 98% sounds daunting. Stores should be able to have an audit. Even with it being subjective on conditioning, standards have always been low with TCGPlayer which I'm hoping this uplifts that as a consumer and someone building their business.

I am SO glad someone has made a video about this. I started under a year ago via the Accelerated Seller Program and actually had a TCGP employee coach me on scaling up and doing the Direct program. I’ve loved it so far and I made the standard for myself to be 95% on my RI’s. I was like 85-90% early on and improved. 98% is daunting to say the least. One piece of advice the coach gave me early on, was to be safe and just list your cards as LP if you’re not sure. Something I think MANY people will have to adhere to if they want to be safe.
@planotradeexchange
@planotradeexchange Месяц назад
That said, I did reach out to my coach about the same questions in this video; Will we get some feedback? Metrics per month, per quarter? How will managing this work? I do wonder if this initial standard is a weedout for those who didn’t think there were ramifications. I’m glad to hear a bigger store like yours is concerned as well.

I am also in the growth program and actually have a video coming about it! The issue is they will return any LP card that is actually NM, so that isn't actually a solution. Which makes sense - if you want all conditions on direct and only have NM, they themselves may be missing sales by not having a cheaper, lower condition.

Speaking from the perspective of a buyer, I've been noticing an increase in less-than-Near-Mint cards being sold as Near Mint over the past year or so. It's even gotten to the point now where every single card in an entire order of over thirty I received recently, was damaged in some way; some so badly that I can't help but think that the seller was deliberately trying to scam me.
@stargazer4784
@stargazer4784 7 дней назад
I think the reality is just that the average buyer doesn't know or care enough to complain when they buy NM and receive something worse. On the off chance that buyers do complain, the seller will offer a partial refund to the disgruntled buyer. In most cases I've encountered, the seller will usually offer up just enough so that it'll make up for the condition discrepancy (e.g. 20% discount to make up the difference of NM -> LP). Best case scenario, they get away with selling LP or worse cards for NM prices. Worst case scenario, the buyer goes through the hassle of sending the card back for a refund, only for the seller to relist the card as NM for some other unwitting buyer to purchase. Pretty much a win-win for the seller. TCGplayer is just too lenient at the moment with condition issues and letting sellers off the hook by allowing the deletion of warranted negative feedback (the seller could offer you $1 partial refund and your feedback gets deleted whether you take the refund or not). It's a common business practice for sellers like Cash Cow Games. I've tracked their feedback ratings in the past and I don't think it'd be an exaggeration to say that they've probably had nearly a thousand negative reviews deleted at this point. New negative reviews every week that seemingly vanish into thin air. I just buy the more expensive cards off of ebay now. Photos of what you're buying and no hassle returns in the case that the condition was somehow inaccurate.

@djlosch
@djlosch Месяц назад
I think a couple things are being mixed up here in the use of the term "direct". TCG Direct is a program where TCG is gathering up the cards from sellers to TCG's warehouse, they grade them on intake, and then TCG ships you the cards directly. The seller doesn't ship it to you. TCG Direct has DRASTICALLY higher rates of proper conditioning vs buying from sellers "directly", outside of TCG Direct. I was on my last straw with TCG back in the day, 20%+ of the cards being labeled NM simply weren't. When they launched TCG Direct in response, this drastically improved. My only gripe with TCG Direct is that at some point since the global panda, something happened that massively throttled inventory, and there are tons of cards that they just never have in stock. Maybe it's policy, maybe it's the secondary market. But availability is much worse today than a few years ago.
@gubigubigubigubi

@@djlosch nah direct has a MASSIVE problem with conditions never being right, cards missing, or the wrong cards entirely being sent out. The rate is much higher than buying from random non tcgdirect sellers on tcgplayer. Anymore i have better chances ebay and amazom than on tcgplayer.

This is good news! Every time I have ordered from Direct, the cards are not even close to the condition they are said to be. That's why I stopped using Direct all together. Hey there, youtube served up this video as recommended so I gave it a watch (never watched your channel prior) and thought I'd chime in on my perspective as purely a customer. I have completely stopped purchasing ANYTHING from TCG direct regardless of seller purely because I was hitting less than 50% of the ordered grade. I only order near mint and most of what I'd get in was HP or worse by TCG's own conditioning standards. It was extremely bad. By ordering direct from stores I'm hitting 90% or better depending on the store and how I'm able to refine my selection of stores. I really don't think TCG is doing any screening of what's sent in at all and there have been a whole lot of stores who send in cards with beautiful fronts and terrible backs. This is probably their attempt to weed these stores out. Also, for every 100k cards you sell that means even by adhering to their standards there are up to 2,000 unhappy customers. Not exactly a good look for them. I work in manufacturing and the expectation is six sigma (99.9997% acceptance) so be glad you're being allowed 2%. Again, not a seller or affiliated with TCG in any way, just trying to put an objective view on this whole thing.

As a customer/player I expect all my orders to be correct, which is why I only shop, with a couple of exceptions, from sellers with 100% feedback rating and I avoid TCGplayer Direct orders entirely. I've had too many issues with Direct orders (and sellers with less than 100% feedback), and to hear you say that it's ok for 2% of orders to be wrong explains why. You may be sending out thousands of cards a week but that's no excuse to cut corners. It takes less than a handful of seconds to condition an NM card in the proper lighting. Some of my favorite sellers moved to Direct and if I were actually getting the exact cards those sellers are providing to TCGplayer I'd be ok with that. But the cards I get on a Direct order could come from any seller's inventory and some sellers offload their junk onto TCGplayer, so I'm encouraged to hear that TCGplayer is cutting some sellers from the program. If they change their standards from 98% to 99.9+% maybe I'll give Direct a try again.

First time watching the channel, like the video and vibe you have as an owner. While I appreciate the benefits of direct, I tend to alway buy non direct for most of my cards unless I’m clearing out an entire card’s inventory indiscriminately. Direct prices are a lot closer to market for obvious reasons, so I try to always snipe the multiple copies at low where shipping breaks down to significantly below market per copy. I don’t envy you guys at all for doing direct, it seems like a horrible headache to make a slightly higher gross revenue but then pay more in fees. I’m glad the process at least gives you the traffic you need though.

lol get this though. I normally don’t have conditioning issues because I condition pretty aggressively. I get cards from TCGPlayer through the buylist and have trusted the condition they say the card is. Recently, I sold a bunch of cards from the buylist and those were the only cards with any conditioning issues. Just gonna watch those cards more carefully. I would guess that there may be some folks selling mostly bulk through Direct and have large RI’s that are relatively low value. I would assume it is harder to be careful as a seller to check those and it is probably a lot of labor on TCGPlayer’s end to check those RI’s. I can’t find the message bc I get so many random emails from TCGPlayer but it isn’t, to my understanding “issue with 1 card out of 100 = 1% point off.” My understanding is that they count missing cards, vs conditioning issues differently. Additionally, I’ve gotten credit for LP cards that were actually NM. Would be cool to see the percentage rate though.

The problem comes when you end up with 'ghost inventory' where cards are randomly sold and added to your invoice when you've never listed them in the first place or if any kind of accident happens where your cards end up getting dinged or even micro-scratched and now it is counted against you. Worse, when their own employees mess up your cards or flat out miscondition it. I've had all of the above happen at different times in my time selling on there. They should've just said they will charge more for discrepancies since mistakes happen. Obviously if someone's abusing the system, then kick those sellers.

This is false, cards can and do change in storage. Pokemon reverse foils from the SwSh era namely. They scratch with so much as a scroll against the back of another card, and sell on average ~0.12 cents each, meaning it's really not worth it to invest the time and labor in sleeving them all individually. The poor quality control of Pokemon is now a real threat to the Direct eligibility of Pokemon sellers.

I had a situation happen where I was ordering a playset of Vanguard cards and the shop I ordered from had the lowest price and their shipping said ".99 cents" (at the time), and after I quickly hit the "Place Order", at the last second before the screen changed, I saw the shipping had been raised to $3, because the shop I ordered from was apparently part of TCGDirect (it was not marked as being a Direct Seller when I put the cards in the cart, even after several refreshes). I understand it's a partner system and all that, but like...they need a toggle or something, so I can choose to get it direct from the seller I wanted instead of through their system with more shipping tacked on, especially with smaller orders.

I feel like starting at 80% and gradually raising over the next year to 95% and then have that be a silent “cutoff” and having 98% be the dream and give a little acknowledgment to those who DO reach it. As someone who’s been getting back into tcgs and buying cards online I noticed that what’s been called NM has dropped since I last checked it out a couple years ago, hate to say it but this is just a harsh but needed change that hopefully gets overall QA and buyer satisfaction up, which can only be beneficial to everyone

Looking at from the other side, 97% would mean 1 out of every 35 cards was wrong. So if I ordered a playset of 3 or 4 cards, depending on the came, there’s about a 10% chance of an error in that; which is just simply way too much. I’d expect TCGPlayer feels 98% is lenient and would probably move towards a 99.5% accuracy rate. Without the transparency they're able to remove anyone for any reason at any time. If you have some of their sorting machines you're probably fine because they don't want to lose that revenue. I wasn't affected personally (I guess I was over 98%) but I opted out of the program because of it. The complete lack of insight into the metrics is ridiculous and I already have enough going on without worrying about some "conditioning expert" giving me a bad RI and changing my business overnight.

Sorry I only feel that getting more accurate is better for buyers. I hate getting cards that are not up to the grade. if I make an order for 40 cards and get 2 cards that are not up to par, I would not be too happy. it is tough, but good luck.

It’s tough and a lot of stores have different measurements when selling singles. They would list a card from an old set like base as NM but easily would be LP. Their excuse is that these are older sets and shouldn’t be viewed as NM on a newer set. Well that’s not consistent and the cards should not be listed as NM as is.
@jacktupp4358
@jacktupp4358 Месяц назад
As a buyer it frustrates me because their rating scale is so far off of the norm and I honestly don't know when it changed. So my example is this... a seller lists a card based on the TCG "modified" rating scale thinking they're submitting the card within NM parameters, so in good faith, and then I receive the card that is clearly not in "real" NM condition so I raise a condition issue. It's not the sellers fault based on the TCG guide lines but as a consumer when I order NM I don't want light surface wear from playing(that's LP by their own words) so I'm upset and I raise the issue. No one is at fault and it sucks that I'm finding out TCG is putting that blame on the seller considering their own guide lines are telling the seller it's OK. On top of the order minimums for free shipping anymore I just look for the $5 shipping stores for my orders and try to fill it with them. I'm constantly ignoring the TCG Direct(because even that doesn't work half the time with shipping so I gave up trying to figure it out) and almost exclusively buy from the 100% feedback low sales stores. It's gotten really bad in the last year and has me considering, shudder, CK.

Maybe I misheard but you said stores were kicked off without a warning and then said emails were sent out telling some stores they were close? Kind of sounds like stores that were kicked off may have had a history of not being accurate or sending different conditions and TCGplayer got sick of it. As a buyer, TCGplayer nm is consistently lp. I for one am glad they are becoming more strict with shops since some of them are trying to skirt the rules.

Tcg direct standards are a joke. Every direct order I've made has been either wrong items and/or damaged product. The say us sellers need to send cards sleeved, in a top loader and protected with card board or a team bag yet their direct orders come in a slightly thicker normal envelope with just sleeved card no top loader, card board or team bag

This just sounds like a store being upset that they are gonna have to round down on grading than round up and screw the customer. If you then say "well how do we train people for this?", my simple answer is either you figure that out before hand (so you don't scam customers) or get out of the game all together. That stack of 20+ cards returned just shows exactly how bad stores are nowadays for fluffing their conditions to make the sale. So scummy.

they probably dont want to deal with condition issues im a collector i dont resell its annoying for me especially when people mark cards above the actual condition thinking they can scam people i had bought a card for well over 100 dollars in supposed lp condition and was really more heavily played and had a week long argument before he gave me like 30 dollars in refunds or something like that and he wasnt happy to and didnt want to pay for return shipping either i even took pictures with a comparison card in the same order same condition as listed and it was a big difference from an actual lightly played card. Honestly hate scalpers and resellers for the most part some are cool some are literal thieves some are real asshole scammers i also think they outnumber collectors at this point its just scalpers/resellers buying each other cards trying to pump the market intentionally/unintentionally

Speaking as a buyer, TCG Player Direct should be far more should be far more concerned about their own shipping standards. They do the worst/ laziest packaging job in the industry. It is pathetic that individual sellers on TCG Player put more effort and care into protecting $5 orders than Direct does into $100 plus orders.

you have no idea what you're talking about lol. 99% of sellers aren't trying to scam buyers. There's a lot of things that they will mark off for condition that they themselves sell to other people. 98% is whatever, but the problem is nobody can see where they stand and are not given the opportunity to improve. If you just kick people out then all thats going to do is fall onto the buyers when they switch back to non-direct orders because the sellers dont understand where the mistakes are.

Direct Yugioh seller here: The biggest issue I have with this change is how often TCG Direct squad mess up conditions. I’ve had flawless cards returned as damaged So 98% can be immediately surpassed if the conditioners have a bad day. I know they say they double check stuff if something is getting rejected, but my experience and that of others says otherwise We need better condition example videos provided on tcgplayer’s youtube channel I would love to list everything as light play, but Yugioh’s direct qualifying inventory is minuscule compared to NM, and that’s mainly for Near Mint cards. You drop to light play, and suddenly only 10% of my listings qualify Also they need to give us a tool to quickly convert inventory to another condition. That’s not possible even with the ROCA. With such high repercussions being implemented so quickly, it sure would seem to be the bare minimum they could do.

If your inventory is so large that you cannot track what you have, then do not sell. Period. 2 out of 100 is still 2 too many. I avoid all direct sales as I have found them to take an unnecessarily longer time (supposedly to have the cards validated) and still have them received around a 85% rate of mistakes.
