I revisit this and share it with friends every Christmas- it never fails to bring joy! Wishing you both a wonderful and blessed holiday season despite this very difficult year. I hope you're doing well and are still able to make beautiful music.
+Michael Redmond Thanks, I'm glad you liked it! at 5:10, if you listen to the top melody line with a little imagination, you should hear the tune! To be more technical about it, 5:10 is actually the 6th--and last--time that particular melody shows up. In Tchaikovsky's original, each repetition is pretty much the same, but I took the liberty of making the repetitions increasingly complex. At 5:10, the theme is still there, but the chords are different, and the lilting rhythm is replaced by hemiolas. To make it even weirder, a slightly distorted version of the 1st theme is played in counterpoint with the main melody. Even though we played it from memory, the score is written out completely, so nothing is accidental!
What a beautiful arrangement and performance! Do you have a published transcription of this arrangement and if so how may we get a copy of it? Would love to start working on it for this coming holiday season. Thank you for sharing.
