This is the most powerful Waltz in history of music and a masterpiece all on its own for its beauty and creativity. Most people know Tchaikovsky's waltzes are the greatest ever composed. But this waltz from Eugene Onegin Opera is different. It has a powerful story and libretto tied to it that sets the entire drama into motion. Even before I heard the libretto, I felt the music itself evoked such powerful emotions in typical dialogue-lyrical Tchaikovskian pathos. Once you hear the libretto, you will remember it forever what each and every section of the music is conveying.

We know that Strauss' was the king of waltz..... but other composers like Tchaikovsky also did waltzes too. I think Tchaikovsky didn't get enough well deserved recognition for his waltzes though.

anne91276 as both a composer and a dancer of the waltz, while Strauss’s pieces are very beautiful and wonderfully composed with care, I have a soft spot for Tchaikovsky due to nostalgia for his music and for the fact that his waltzes more often stick to a rigid pace (veerrryyy useful for dancing).

My favorite Tchaikovsky operatic piece... This, coupled with Pushkin's character, just seems to cry "Russian Epic!" with every note and, when it comes to the poem or opera's libretto, with every scintilating word. In truth, the words are notes of their own sort and the notes their own sort of word--such is the case when there is such a level of mastery present that both artistic languages form one, coherent, beautiful Language of Art. And this is a Masterpiece of that Language of Art...

Peter Tchaikovsky is a musical genius. He composed symphonies, suites, concertos, sonatas, and operas. No other composer would have been like him; even Mozart would have lost the competition if they had lived in the same era and competed with one another.

@TheJHBfilms
@TheJHBfilms 7 лет назад
Tchaikovsky would be shunned from the scene if he was matched against Mozart simply because of the times. Also Mozart far beats Tchaikovsky when it comes to quantity, Tchaikovsky didnt actually write much and rarely used sonata from except in his magnum opus. In fact the first sentence can be said fro just about any composer from baroque to modern
@abe_48

Bluejeans0701. you are absolutely right. Historically, the musical establishment was biased in favor of German classical music despite realizing the inferior quality in their melodic structure and repeatable style. German composers mass-produced music in feverish cookie-cutter style in shallow and lifeless forms. Tchaikovsky strove hard to create beautiful music with huge emotional contents like no other composer before and after him and felt unhappy if he sensed repeatability in his work. . Even Germans realized this fact and when Tchaikovsky traveled through Germany, people would tell him how much they wished that Tchaikovsky were German!

@4stringoFury And that presents a problem for the Spanish language, which does not use the TCH combination. If the Spanish language followed the French style, it would spell CHAD and CHILE as TCHAD and TCHILE.

@4stringoFury The French transliteration is not faithful to the Russian original; also, like the Russian language, the Spanish language does not use the TCH combination, so it's not appropriate for an Spanish speaker such as myself to use a transliteration that is not even faithful to the original language.
