Thank you so much! Just got done fixing mine - 100% thanks to watching your invaluable video! 1st TV fix and I did it in just under 3 hours. $32 for LED strips, another $40 for tester and suction cups and voila, like a new TV. Only suggestion on the video is remind people who need to to take pictures right away, not an hour into the video.

Thanks for the video. Have 65 inch TCL with bad back light. This video helped me fix my tv. The only advice I would give would be, wear gloves when handling the inner screen. I left a small hand print on mine that sometimes shows up on the screen when it plays. Also the job took me roughly 5 hours or so. Advice make sure you have plenty time to work on it. Thanks for the play by play. Learned a lot from this video. The wife was really surprised I was able to fix it.

Thank you very much for the video!! I was able to get my parents TV mostly repaired in just about 3 1/2 hours. I say mostly because as I was removing the very bottom guard it slipped, fell, and tore off two of the left side diffuser ribbons that connect to the screen. I was hoping I could just line them up, tape em down, and all be well but alas after putting it all back together 90% of the left side of the screen is black. It was worth a shot though and this video was an IMMENSE help!

Followed your instructions...they were very clear except for some parts. My biggest confusion after opening up the TV was which screws go where.. After some confusion I figure it out. Too many daam screws in this one.. but your instructions were great. I appreciate the video.

I rolled the dice and bought the backlights to attempt this repair myself. Probably one of the easiest tvs to work on. And I still messed it up. All user error. This is much harder than it looks. Salute to anyone who can do this. I feel bad for wasting time and money just to fail miserably like I did. I had such high hopes in my situation. I was focused and took my time. But in the end I was stuck with an even more broken tv, time and money I will never get back. And no tv at all to watch. My soul hurts. Considering how much the tv cost brand new. Why they make you go through the front of the tv to get to the back lights when the lights are in the back. They should be replaceable just like batteries. But manufactures only care about money and not about their products making it to the landfill. It's going to be tough without a tv for a year 😞

This is helpful for me to prepare my 65" TCL TV to replace the mainboard. Not sure my issue is backlite. My tv works fine for about 3 - 4 hours then the screen flickers and goes black. I have sound with no problem.

Thank you very much for the video, more of these please! My repair took half a day. One important point: I got a strong electric shock 😬⚡ when I removed the power board, please wear gloves. And on my screen, after I put the backlight on, I now see scratches behind the screen. Is it easy to scratch it? I put the screen on cardboard, could the cardboard leave scratches on it? Or just someone who has already repaired it before didn't watch your video)
@qcsbuilds5708
@qcsbuilds5708 2 года назад
So the shock is if you bridge your finger between the capacitor electrodes on the back of the power supply. The capacitors don't store enough energy to be harmful. Just going to wake you up in the morning. I always grab the board from the edges. Yes the screen is made of a very soft plastic and anything rough will scratch it. Stay tuned because if got and updated video coming with a better angle of the part removal.

With the set unplugged, short out the legs of the large electrolytic caps to release the charge. Be prepared for a spark with a loud snap, like a bug zapper. I think laying the screen on a clean blanket might help keep it from getting scratched. Just be careful to remove any lint before reassembly.

Thanks for this video sir. I'm wondering if I also have a backlight problem. My TCL 65s513 didn't have any power, no center bottom LED light at all. I replaced the powerboard from another used tv and it powered on. BUT then the image was faint, I had to use a flashlight to see images. THere's still sound though. Is there a chance the mainboard is the culprit? The LED inverter? The actual LED strips? Or could it be the powerboard, even though there's power. I'd like to avoid replacing the LED strips as it looks very involved.. Thanks!

Sure would be nice if the manufacturers had designed the frame such that the majority of the sheet metal back was removable, so we could replace the LEDs from the rear. It'll never happen though I'm sure. I have a TCL 65S517 from April 2019. No backlight. I bought an LCD tester and found that each of the 4 (vertical) strips measure exactly the same. Also when lit individually using the tester, I don't see any dim or dark spots. It flickers a couple times when powering on after a reset. I suspect the PSU is going into safety mode, but perhaps due to a faulty component on the PSU, since the strips all measure exactly the same and appear to have all LEDs lit. Ordered a new PSU but have to wait since it's on back order. Oh, there's also no voltage output to the LED connector when the LEDs are disconnected. I had read that if the LEDs are bad, disconnecting them completely from the PSU should allow the PSU to not enter safety mode and cut voltage. Not sure if that's true for all brands and models though.
@qcsbuilds5708
@qcsbuilds5708 2 года назад
A new psu should solve your problem. The control IC on most TCL psu's have load sense so it will test fire and if it sees no load it will shutdown during startup.

It's very poor of manufactured to design a product knowing that lights may need to be replaced after long working hours But yet they still put it in the most critical area that needed to remove the most vulnerable part just to replace the lights this is a setup of bad design.

@@qcsbuilds5708 If I could take just a couple more minutes of your time I would really appreciate it. Let me tell you what I know. I plug it in and the white light in the bottom center comes on for a sec or two, then starts to blink, after a few more seconds Roku TV will flash on the screen for a split second (it appears to be normal brightness) then the screen goes dark. If the room is dark I can take a light and at a angle shine it on the screen and I can see everything that is suppose to be there. I understand that the power supply puts out different voltages to different circuits, can you tell me the best way to check (and the proper) voltages on the boards? I would truly appreciate any help you might be able to give me. Thank You.
@qcsbuilds5708
@qcsbuilds5708 3 года назад
Best thing to do would be to get a backlight tester and check the backlight. Typically on a TCL if you have backlight for just a short time during startup it's a backlight issue. Usually on the power supply the backlight section works or it doesn't.

@@richardflaherty2373 not really. Samsung doesn't have a lot of first year failures. Most of what I work on is extended warranty units. I see them all at some point. Longevity in electronics is luck of the draw. The OEM can bin everything as much as possible but it's still luck. Best insurance is a good quality surf protector with AC noise filtration.
