TCL Mini LED C835 Google TV Review | 55inch 4K Gaming Display 

I'm in Aus. This T.V arrived for me this week. It was bought to replace my old 10 year old TCL for my studio, which wasn't a great TV. So, I made the decision to never buy TCL again, as my lounge TV is a Sony and bedroom TV is an LG. Both around 3 years old. After heaps of research, I just had to settle on this TV with all of its features, rave reviews, and price. And, it is absolutely fantastic! Probably the best TV I've ever bought. Gaming & streaming is fantastic. Even the TCL channel, which contains 4 or 5 live channels of Poker is awesome. One of the best purchases I've ever made.

Looks like a great value gaming TV. Very rare to find an Aussie tech reviewer! I heard someone say they couldn't get HDR and VRR working simultaneously when playing on their PC.

Great, review. It's not easy getting a no fuss review for what is a relatively cheap TV. But wow this is good value considering what I paid for my OLED TV. Great 2nd bedroom TV (for a spoiled brat).

Probably late too the party on this TV but just bought the 75" version from JB Hifi, on sale down to $1495 from nearly $2k. Couple of gift cards and a 10% "JB Perks" discount and im walking away with this telly for $1245 delivered. Feels like an absolute steal, cant wait to set it up!

Emily, do not take any offense as none is intended, I thought I would post this here as it is relevant to Australian viewers. Here are my thoughts: So having read everything that exists on this panel (835), my concerns are misinformation on whether the panel is native 144HZ or 100HZ as reported by many other review sites (not yours). Things like, 144HZ supported but tearing using a 100HZ panel. I mean this isn't possible to get 144HZ on a 100HZ panel in the 1st place, you can overclock some panels but when TCL specify that it supports 144HZ, that's what you should get, and without any tearing if you're using VRR with either AMD or nVidia. Obviously this all relates to PC usage which again you never tested, but others have spoken about it like they did test. What I would like to know is if the panel is actually a native 144HZ panel 4K on HDMI 1 port. I will call TCL tomorrow but I am suspecting that they wont be able to tell me either. I have a Hisense SX65 that I called Hisense over and they could not answer simple questions either. I have managed to clock that panel to 120HZ as the UFO test reports but given they're 2 panels stuck together, it is only relative to the 1080P panel, I know this is confusing but there are 2 panels, 1080P for B&W (4 bit), 4K for color (8 bit) which makes it a 12 bit panel or 14 bit FRC. I have had some experimenting with different tvs, panels, I get how to get them to play nice but what I don't get is when I cannot get the right info on a native refresh rate on the 735/835. Again this is not having a go at you, I want to express my concern as I am needing to replace my aging Samsung 55 Q60R which only supports 120 HZ over 1440P but does 4K 60HZ. I have a 3070Ti which is more than sufficient to drive 4K 144HZ in applications so am happy to test, but it would be pointless to buy a TV only to find out it is using so some of interpolation to get that number. I know you cannot fake these numbers so again will call TCL tomorrow to confirm. Lots of text to read but this is again the same situation I was in last year when I purchased the Hisense SX65, so many people were against this TV, lots of misinformation on another well known Australia site. I went into Harvies with my nVidia shield and tested myself. I got the TV cheap, 1300 from memory, it is better than my Plasmas I own and have zero issues with IR. The TV has 2 million dimming zones, that's quite high for an LCD right? Well the image is stellar and would hands down beat the 835, but it just does not have the higher refresh rate the 75 inch US version does. It weighs 40KGs without stand too, so you get why I research my TVs before purchase. I just wanted to express my feelings on how some reviewers are missing a really crucial element here, the native refresh rate of the panel. R8tings is only reporting on the 655 ROKU? and I don't know if it's the same panel. I'll report back once I find out more info.

In my research this is the best overall tv to get if you don't want to spend a lot more on OLED especially if your in Australia and don't want to spend days getting familiar with which version of a tv is being flogged outside of America even with the same model name, the crooked advertising of "4K" and "120hz" but you can't do both of them at the same time if you read the fine print if the website even provides those details which most of them do not, like the C635. If you don't want to go through all of that, just buy the C835 and know it offers solid value with few compromises :)

I was in between the Hisense U8HAU 55 and the TCL835 55. After watching this review, I went to JB HI Fi and bought one. Can't wait to get it delivered so I can plug my series X and PS5 into it and start gaming. Thanks for the review 🙏😍

Oooh, this might just be my next TV!

Any chance on a Hisense U8HAU review? I want to see how it stacks up to both this TCL and the American U8H. This TCL is really looking to be a slightly better option with wider viewing angles, better blooming control and the Google TV interface being much better than Hisense’s VIDAA OS. Hisense is often $200 cheaper though, the blooming is also fine viewing straight on, and the VIDAA interface can be remedied with a Google TV Chromecast, so it’ll be a tough choice.

I just bought one but 65 inch. Liking it so far. I have a very similar setup as yours. 😀

I'm so glad I found this review I'm buying my first smart TV next week & I was looking at Sony or Samsung but this looks like a fantastic option as well it's just over $1,000 at The Good Guys but with haggling I think I can get this TV for under 1k.

TCL 835 vs 845 review?

This one or LG C1? It will be for 3 - 4yrs when we will buy next one. Use for Movies (Netflix, HBO, Disney+), cabel TV and XSX. What you recomend? In my country prices are +- same.

"thousands of backlight leds" - doesn't the 835 have only 200-300 (depending on the size) backlight leds (the 935 has around ~2k I believe)?

Thanks, this looks pretty decent for the money. Can I suggest that you review the Hisense mini led and OLED TV’s. Can’t trust that Hisense hasn’t gimped the Aussie versions again.

Why does this video sound like a sales pitch?

Under audio output it says “ Bluetooth + internal speaker” audio output from Bluetooth device and tv speaker at the same time…. Could I use two Bluetooth rear speakers (google speakers) for 5.1?
