TCL Roku TV / Soundbar not working ARC No Sound FIX

THANK YOU!! I was having this exact problem and could NOT figure it out. Well who would be expected to? The tv was auto detecting the sound bar, but it was using the wrong setting to drive the sound bar. I changed the setting manually as you suggested, and WAH LA. Thanks for taking the time to post this simple but effective fix.

Was literally banging my head against a wall trying to fix this same issue. I had to switch from Auto to Passthrough under Audio to get it to work but it's working now. Thank you!!

Thanks so much! Audio autodetect was sending a harsh square wave buzzing noise out of my receiver. Switched it to 'Auto passthrough' and it was fixed

Yep this was helpful. I have a TCL Roku tv and an LG Soundbar. I tried resetting, removing re-adding the device. No sound on all apps except a couple. I tried everything except this and it worked, thank you!

This was it!! Thank you! All the garble on TCL/Roku and it is a simple solution like this! I honestly thought I tried all the settings...but apparently I didn't go back to the 'home' screen in order for the audio to engage. As a techie, I should know better. Either way...thank you for publishing the 'real fix' to a problem Roku/TCL are not addressing.

For those who still have issues plug the sound bar HDMI in to the HDMI(arc) port and all other devices in the other HDMI ports.

It's worth a mention that in some cases you'll need to try plugging in your fiber optic cables too. I had this same issue, but it didn't work until I plugged the HDMI cable along with the fiber optic cable in. Hopes this helps someone! I'm in extra bass heaven now! 😂😂😂

I've had my sound bar for a while now and it was working fine through arc in auto detect. It wasn't until I installed my PS 5 to the sound bar did it stop playing audio, soon after. I would have to restart/reboot my tv for the sound bard to work again. But this option is way better, faster, and easier on my tv. Thanks allot.

Thanks. I had the same problem with my TCL. I'm assuming the other audio options didnt work because my soundbar is not a 4k soundbar or would I have to use the same settings on this video regardless if my soundbar is 4k compatible or not?

How did this work out for you in the long term? I have a TCL Roku TV and a Samsung sound bar connected via HDMI / ARC. For a couple of years it would work most of the time, with the sound bar occasionally not turning on but I would just have to get up and hit the power button. Recently (possibly right after a TCL firmware update) I lost sound altogether. Changing the volume on the TCL remote causes the volume numbers to chance on both the TV and the sound bar, but no sound. I did a factory reset and it worked for maybe an hour, then stopped again. I tried various different cables and every setting in the menu several times. What I figured out today is it won't work if there is a cable plugged in to HDMI 2 or HDMI 3. I can reproduce the following behavior reliably: Sound bar on HDMI 1, no cable in 2 or 3, power on TV => sound bar comes on and displays "ARC" and sound is working. Sound bar on HBMI 1, cable plugged in to either 2 or 3, power on TV => sound bar comes on and displays "D. IN" and sound is not working.

Update: For the newer tcl tv settings then Audio Earc hdmi whatever click right menu reads auto, pass through, custom if you switch from auto to pass through the soundbar popped on!!

My menu is different, still can't figure it out as I can't find cec.

My ARC connections works on my TCL Roku TV with my Klipsch but it doesn't work right. Volume steps are to loud. Goes from can't hear it to, too loud with like 2 up volume button pushes. Very frustrating.
