The thing I hated about the book and movie was Leslie Benedict's hypocrisy. She was scandalized when She saw the living conditions of the Mexican help: shacks, mo running water, dirt floors. Yet she was from a horse breeding farm in Virginia. The farm and house ran on African American servant power. Some of those working in the house were noted to have been with the grandparents. Most likely, it had been a plantation, with the current servants children of former slaves. Bick does point this out in one of their fights, but it gets muffled. It was definitely a case of the pot calling the kettle black.
