TCM Remembers 2023 

Every year, this never gets any easier. We may not have known them personally, but they were part of our lives.

I just want to say, placing Suzanne Somers in her ethereal American Graffiti role right after Raquel Welch's "guardian angel" quote is just one reason why TCM's tributes are miles above the Oscars' or anyone else's. There's thought behind the editing of these little gems that illustrate how much the people who put these together know, love, and most of all, revere movies, and the people who make them.

TCM always does a spectacular job, much better than the Oscars.

If there's a word that sums TCM up, it has to be "class." RIP to all those great talents we lost this year.

Dear Academy and Emmy Award producers: Hire the people behind the best annual tribute of its kind for your upcoming In Memoriam segments next year. You will NEVER have an issue again with leaving people out.

This Canadian was happy that you included Gordon Pinsent, Matthew Perry and Robbie Robertson. All were true icons whom we'll all miss.

No one can do tributes like TCM, thank you!

As a Brazilian, it was truely moving to see the great Léa Garcia on this beautiful tribute. One of the greatest actresses in my country's history. Do yourselves a favor and please watch Black Orpheus, the movie in which she appears and that is played in this gourgeous video! Her legacy will be eternal! And thanks to TCM for always doing such an amazing work!

I cry watching this every year. So many people who gave me so many hours of enjoyment and life landmarks. Thank you, TCM, for doing this each year.

Once again, TCM not only does an excellent job with its yearly memorium segment, but managed to include those we lost very recently. Those in charge of the Oscar Awards broadcast should take notes.😊😊😊

Absolutely amazing. I wanna take this moment here to shout out to Burney Mattinson. He was an animator for Disney and worked on some of the best films from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Including Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, and The Jungle Book (the ladder was the Frozen of its day). rest in peace to all.

Paul Reubens’ passing was the most painful. The Alamo salutes you, Pee-Wee.

Not only did TCM do another crackerjack job on its year-end memoriam, but they were able to pack 96 people (most ever since the station began doing this) into the tribute in under 5 minutes!

This is probably the most heartbreaking TCM Remembers they have done in a while. :( So much better than the Oscars' Memoriam tribute.

Beautifully done as usual, TCM. This rendition of Tom Petty's "Learning to Fly" was perfect for this. RIP to them all.

Classic, just Classic. Always done with style, grace and class. No one and I mean NO ONE does it like TCM. Rest In Peace.

Heartbroken we lost Cari Beauchamp!! She was my favorite guest speaker to introduce films at the TCM festival. I would often choose screenings just based on the fact that she would be the guest.

Have been so broken up over David McCallum's death. I wish TCM had included a special "In Memoriam" to him. I knew him first through all of his movies NOT his tv shows -The Great Escape; Freud; A Night to Remember; Violent Playground; The Greatest Story Ever Told... Etc... will miss him very much ♥️

Beautiful tribute

I’m always moved beyond belief at TCMs annual tribute. The music is always spot on and adds to how moving the tribute is.

So perfect to use Tina Turner's character Auntie Entity from Mad Max: Thunderdome in her tribute. Update using this post for my 2024 prediction now. Oh, this is a devastating amount of loss. TCM does these tributes so well.

This breaks my heart. David McCallum, Gina Lolabridgeda, Melinda Dillon from "A Christmas Story", others. The black woman, Lea Garcia, looks like the woman who played the cousin of Eurydice in the film "Black Orpheus". I kust googled and yes, it's her. That man on the curtain was totally amazing too.

Watched this early this morning... have been attached to the series for a couple hours now. Wow.... what a moving look at some of the people who meant so much to us along the way. Just wonderful - tears & laughs ... and the music is sublime. Never knew these tributes existed - so bitter, and so sweet. Thank You TCM - for such tasteful presentations. RIP to all these incredible storytellers and respect to the crews who put these Gems together. Sincerely.

Losing Cindy Williams, Melinda Dillon and Lisa Loring all in January made it a rough start to the year. They all brought a special warmth to the screen. Maybe it's just me getting older and remembering these people from when I was a child that makes this harder each year to watch. I hope each of them are with the ones they loved and left before them.

I love TCM, checking to see what’s playing before I check out any other channel. These beautifully crafted gems are one reason why TCM is and will always remain a cherished treasure.

No longer own a television and TCM is the one thing I miss. These are jewels.

Look at all that great talent that has left us.

Beautiful job as always. I got to see The Trip to Bountiful, Buck and Preacher, Wait Until Dark and The Hustler this year for the first time. Some were viewed prior to their passing (Carlin Glynn, Piper Laurie) other viewed posthumously (Harry Belafonte, Alan Atkin.) This how we can best remember them: watching them excelling at their craft.

I look forward to TCM Remembers annually. The tributes are done so beautifully. I also look to see who closes out the tributes. I feel like every person who closes out the tribute is chosen for their lasting legacy and their impact on Hollywood. I'm glad to see that this year's slot went to Harry Belafonte. I am also glad to see that Andre Braugher was included, given that he just passed away. We lost a lot of great people this year, and it never gets easier. However, TCM never fails to bring a smile to my face and tears to my eyes with their tributes. Thank you TCM. RIP to all the people we lost this year. You will never be forgotten.

Every year I watch TMC Remembers and there's always one that passed away with no fanfare from the media. But they left lasting memories. And this version of Learning To Fly is incredible.

Well done, TCM! Rest well, you legends.

So powerful... wasn't aware Linda Haynes (Rolling Thunder), Murray Melvin (Barry Lyndon), or Miiko Taka (Sayonara) are gone. Maybe it didn't make headline news but their images are burned in my brain cells, along with others.

Brilliant memorial of those artists we treasure and who passed away in 2023. The video and its solemn music is coordinated perfectly and makes me gasp and tear up each time I watch it. Thank you, TCM. ❤
