Contrary to popular opinion, the Barbary pirates weren't barbers that gave you a buzz cut then forced you to walk the plank. Join Cody as he looks at this card driven war game from Fort Circle Games. Will it hoist its flag on your tabletop? Or will it just sink to the bottom of your game shelf? Let's watch!

Yet another to add to my list -- darn, you! (As an aside, can I mention that it is great that your reviews are always the perfect length. Too many reviewers take far too long to get to their points.)

Just received my copy yesterday. This is a nice, little gem. Quality components, relatively little known topic, well written rules, smooth game play (including solitaire play). Highly recommend.

Fantastic review!!! Oh wow, yet another intriguing historical game!!! I like that in these Quaran-times, people are able to still create lots of board and card games that can provide hours of entertainment for people who may be stuck at home! This particular era in History is one that I'm not familiar with, but it provides a different scenario than the usual WW1/2 warfare/battle historical simulations, and the components ooze quality and theme!!! Cool looking maps and ship tokens!!! Is there ship-to-ship combat in this game, or is ship sinking only for one of the factions? And do the armies (the little cubes) also engage in combat, or is this more of a diplomacy-type game? At any rate, the game's premise is certainly interesting! So glad I watched this!!!

Very nice view in the back, I would run like a dog in all directions. I have played this game, It's a bit scripted but asymmetric, and I like this, I would not replay it a lot though. Also I want to thank you here for making me buy Combat Commander in another video, that's a gem

TY again Cody for the review - Loving or not this game, I notice with joy that the games are in general more and more beautiful! I'm speaking also of the components. I donno for you but I realized after years and years of passion for board games that for me the aesthetics of a game was as important than the mechanics and the theme. This even surprised myself because I always though the mechanisms or the topic was the most important ... Now I realize I'm impressed and in love with the beauty of some games and I realize It's sometime the trigger for me to buy them! I think as recent exemples of "Napoleon returns 1815" and "Beyong the Sun" ... Games that I wanna buy because they are beautiful LOL! And I think I'm not alone ... Do you think so?
@TheDiscriminatingGamer
@TheDiscriminatingGamer 3 года назад
I think aesthetics are very important, and visually you want the game to pop. Still, for me, at the end of the day the game’s the thing.
@GGdeTOURS37
@GGdeTOURS37 3 года назад
@@TheDiscriminatingGamer I agree - In fact I need those 3 elements to buy the game: Mechanism / Theme / Aesthetics :)

Is it the sort of game where you have your boat by its target, but you need to be lucky to draw a card allowing it to actually attack ? I hate that mechanism (also found in Scythe in some other way). Game with artificial constraints such as War Chest, Scythe and Undaunted:xxx are not my cup of tea.
@TheDiscriminatingGamer
@TheDiscriminatingGamer 3 года назад
I don't know that that's the case, since you can use cards for things other than simply their printed event, as noted in the review.

@@TheDiscriminatingGamer Thanks, I wanna know the feeling. In reviews, we don't get much of ideas like: "in this game we constantly struggle to get our pieces to move. Frustration is what you'll experience the most.". I'm exaggerating, but only for demonstration.
