Hey, it's more historically accurate than the Ridley Scott film! Jon Cody as he charges into this board game version of the great book wargame from Worthington Games. Will you conquer the battlefield on game night? Or will you just feel like you've been exiled to Elba on your tabletop? Let's watch!

Thank you, yes. I appreciate you bringing that up here because it's an important part of the game, and offers a level of replayability. Thanks!

Playing Napoleon is great! I feel like either side could win especially the games of hardest difficulty. But playing Wellington was disappointing, I just kept winning with little effort. So I made it more challenging for Wellington to win by modifying the BOT rules for the French. I added to French BOT roll of one: If Prussian have 2 units on game board move one French Reserve unit to reinforce I Corps. Then the given "4 Prussion" option and the "otherwise" option. I added to French BOT roll of four: at the end: BUT, If there is only one Guard unit left after the attack move the last Guard unit to reinforce I Corps. I also add to the French BOT rolls of five or six that after the Cavalry attack: if 3 Cavalry units still remain move one to reinforce it's adjacent Corps. (Dragoons could dismount and use their muskets :). Lastly I changed the BOT 6 roll on the "Tactical Events" to remove 2 Allied Infantry units rather than just the one. Finally it was fun and quite challenging playing Wellington too! Enjoy from Virginia!

There is a variant on Tabletop Simulator called Eylau 1807 Solitaire which I personally prefer over Waterloo Solitaire.

Just prior to being blown apart, the same French soldier was shot in the thigh. He kept fighting though because the round didn’t hit the boney-part.

Nice review as usual, Cody! I was thinking about getting this game but I was somehow put off by the poor proof-reading. "La Haye Saint" is rather irritating to see (and the error carries over in the cards) and, given the fact that the player stares most of the time at the map during the game... Also, less important but another evidence that WG doesn't double check their texts too often, is point #4 of the Sequence of Play: "Play the selected card action and any BOT action affects". I'm not an English native speaker but I guess that should read "effects"... unless they wanted to suggest that even BOTs can feel emotions.

Some more proofreading was in order, for sure. But for me, the game is the thing. Also, what do you mean by "the player stares most of the time at the map during the game." What else would they stare at?

@@TheDiscriminatingGamer Well, that's my point. Besides, I wrote them asking if they had any intention to make another print run amending the error but it looks like the answer is "no"...

I just saw Napoleon I hated it. Joaquin Phoenix I thought was awful and so was Wellington. I thought Armand Assante was one of the best Napoleons to play the role in the TV nini series Napoleon and Josephine: A Love Story with Jacqueline Bisset I thought it was acted better the story line was better.
@TheDiscriminatingGamer

I agree. Film was terrible. The TV movie was quite good. Several years ago there was an A&E miniseries that was also very good.

Did you ever see the PBS documantary on Napoleon that was very good I have it on DVD. Also the Napoleon 101 podcast was very good my only grip was when he interjected his today polical statment but if you can over look that its pretty good or you can read his book/

I totally disagree the evaluation given this game. First off, there is just about no way the French can win. given the fact that one rarely get to roll 1 or less needed to kill off 2 allies, especially with all the modifiers involved. Secondly, the difficult levels are about the same with one or 2 exceptions. Does not make for any significance on the game as a whole. The rules are rather confusing regarding reserves. What to do with reserves moving into reinforcement boxes. No mention of reinforcements. Simple game play but confusing rules here and there plus predictable outcome makes this game a waste of money.
