this was very interesting to me because my grandfather at one point guarded FDR at the little white house. according to the story he told us when their shift was up he would tell them not to go and would make them drinks all night
Those infestation tubes you saw on the bridge beams were Mud Dauber Wasp nests. Harmless but very freaky looking. Safe travels Adam. Keep up the excellent content.
Thank you for your inspiration watching you all these years has got me to start my own channel. I'm still figuring it out and getting comfortable doing these videos. but and advice or tips I would greatly appreciate and I have done a video of a place you have been to and mentioned you in it. I just want your blessing before I post it. thanks.
The FDR home was very cool. I never knew that's where he died. i would have thought it was in New York state. You might want to give your van a health check. that tire was very low. you do drive a lot.
Specifically, noon on Wednesday. Old civil defense protocol for testing. We even have places in the SF Bay Area that still do this. Which always made me wonder - if an *actual* emergency happened on Wednesday at noon, and the sirens went off, would anyone notice??
I live in a tiny farming community and back in the 30's. To the 90's it was a booming little town. The noon siren was sounded everyday to let th workers in the fields it was lunch time. Now it goes off just for tradition sake. On a side not main drag has 50's music playing 24 hours a day. We're like a time capsule stuck in time.
So amazing to see the actual furniture (and even the toilet paper!) of FDR's home. And in a way, humbling. We will all be gone one day and to see the evidence of a life fully lived is a reminder to make a difference while you can. Really good stuff, brother.
I steer clear of bashing the dead, no matter their faults. Eternal justice is enough. Better to be wise as a serpent but gentle as a dove in this area, imho.
The siren was for the first responders ( fire , Rescue) for that over turned Cement truck. Small towns use them as we do here in VA where I live but mostly for major events.
It was really cool that you went through Senoia, Georgia, but was there sign near by telling you not to film across the coffee shop, because that's where the current filming location of The Walking Dead Season 8 is being filmed right now or also known as Alexandria. Also, the Woodbury Shoppe, did you see some of the actual props downstairs? That entire city of Senoia was known as Woodbury and filmed in Season 3! Great place to visit!
I loved visiting The Little White House years ago. Thanks for the return visit. Thank you for taking your time to share the fascinating historical information with us. I am looking forward to your adventures in Alabama.
I love how you're traveling America and seeing the sights! I wish I could do the same thing. We really take for granted how great this wonderful country is! So many people want to travel abroad but there's so much to see in the U.S.A.
I don't get to watch until this afternoon. It's like a family thing now to watch Adam the Woo after school! We love ya, we appreciate ya and we thank ya!
In case you were serious about not knowing what the siren was, it sounds like it was a fire whistle. I'm from Clearfield, PA and if there is a fire, those sirens go off. It also goes off at 6:00 on Sunday. Every Sunday. There have been times where I've been 5-10 miles out of town and can still hear the fire whistle going off. I could be wrong considering I'm not from that town. But in the small town where I live, that siren usually means there is a fire.
The siren is a monthly testing by Duke Power. They do it here too in nearby SC and it drives the dogs crazy when it happens. The tubes are made by a wasplike insect called dirt daubers. When Roosevelt died, my Mother In Law, who grew up beside the railroad tracks in Greenville, SC, watched his funeral train go by as it carried his body back to Washington. The dogs are Great Pyrenees. They're made for herding sheep and goats. I haven't been keeping up with your blog, sorry, so if you've already been there, oh well. But if not, I highly recommend you double back and hit Athens, GA. After all, REM and The B-52's came from there. Have a great trip. Had I known you were coming to this part of the world, I would have suggested coming up this way and we'd take you over to Newry Mill.
I should add... my grandfather (who, incidentally, had polio as an infant and had to use crutches all of his life) would tell me about the FDR funeral train when it came through Clemson. Can you believe that my grandfather and your grandmother saw the funeral train within an hour of each other!! There are some great old photos of the cadets lined up at the Clemson train depot (called Calhoun then) to pay their respects.
You came within miles again of where I am. Wish I'd had known! I'll catch one day. Be good, safe and happy travels! Glad to see you back on the road, again!
Yes sir that's exactly what I was thinking and here in Southwest Ohio in Brown county we still covered Bridges that look just like this. I think five maybe six covered Bridges to be exact that are still crossed by cars and trucks every single day. I love the old Bridges and actually they are historical landmarks here in this county. There are 1 or two of them that nobody ever uses but you can get out and walk across them. They have built new Bridges right next to the ones you can't cross. Let's see we have the old mcafferty covered bridge. We have the new hope covered bridge. We have the eagle Creek covered bridge. And the other two or three I can't remember the names but they are still here. I think the new hope covered bridge is the only one that not in use anymore.
could be testing the siern, alot of towns test theirs on the first or last weds of the month at 12 noon ,was it noon when it went off ADAM THE WOO????????? lov your videos, those bugs things on the bridge they are called mud doppers, they look like wasps but they are black in color
It may also be going off as result of the accident he drove up on. Kind of sounded like there were two going off. Maybe they called for mutual aid from another Department.
Amazing Vlog today. Your stuff is so cool, because it's done with a sense of honesty, integrity, and respect. Really dig that. Keep up the good work man. Very cool!
Well Adam, you did it, you had a covered bridge featured on your blog, only a couple of weeks ago on your state to state series I wrote that I would like you to find one, and you did, amazing. Those bridges bring Scooby Doo to my mind, but beetle juice as well, even the legend of sleepy hollow. Thanks for your fantastic videos, keep them coming. 😀👍🇬🇧🏴
in most small towns when the siren goes off its to tell the volunteer firefighters that they need to go to the station for a call, hence the turned over truck in the video !
If you get to Mississippi I lived in Pascagoula, & Gulf Port area in the 1973. :) Adam those 'things' you saw on the boards of the covered bridge, was what we called 'dirt dobbers', they are like a Wasp! The old gas stations and country stores were popular when people used to travel those old highways, back in the day, before the big interstates. There is so much of America like that to see through out the South. But it is all slowly disappearing. My mama collected old bottles and she would have been all up IN that old gas station, weeds and all! :)
Sirens in small communities are used for various ways of alerting the residents. In the farm area where I grew up, at 6 PM every evening, the local fire department sounded its alarm. Every evening. In the closest town to us, the volunteer fire departments (there were three of them) didn't use a siren; they used a series of "honks" (for lack of a better word) and those "honks" were coded to let the town's residents know EXACTLY what street and block the fire was. Of course, sirens are also used to alert residents as a tornado warning and, in the 1960s, in the heat of The Cold War, communities practiced using their sirens as a means of alerting residents to a missile attack (many of us has bomb shelters back in the day).
Here in Oklahoma....they usually test them every Saturday at noon unless the weather is not good....or after a big tornado they may take a few weeks off. I live in Moore so have been through some very big tornadoes
The siren....its called a noon whistle. This noise sounds at 12 noon so those who didn't have watches knew it was meal time.....lunch or dinner depending on where you were raised. Northern folks have breakfast ,lunch and dinner. Southerners have breakfast, dinner and supper.
Adam, your videos are awesome. But they need to be longer. Also would love to see you do a live vlog one day. Also again, I just moved to Hershey, PA. Are you working your way in this direction? Would love to meet you in person. Safe travels.
Another great video! If you ever find yourself in the Vermont/ New Hampshire area, you can visit the Windsor-Cornish covered bridge. The longest wooden covered bridge in the world at 449 feet.
on the bus watching thing and kids were thowing chocolate at me one hit the back of my head hard and the other one hit the back of the seat in front of me but this just made my day it would be even better if you replied😁
i still dont understand why he doesnt just use his first channel? hes got like 200k more subs there. more views, more money=better vids?? please explain
because these vlogs aren't about one subject like the original channel was . This channel is an evolution on what Ive done every day . Format has always been the same just a lot more intense now . Switching over would be way too confusing and break the streak . This is where I upload now
+adamthewoo I agree 100% love the Vlogs you get to see more ! I love the videos also but they are limited to 1 thing ! Keep doing you my friend it's worked this long why mess with perfection !
+adamthewoo I still don't know why everyone gets so concerned by this, you are providing a 10-20 minute blog everyday of your life. That should be more satisfying than a 15-30 minute video every couple of weeks. Smh. Thanks for the hustle Adam. You rock!
+adamthewoo Seems like someone brings this up everyday. To satisfy your flock why not upload your daily video to both channels for a couple of weeks and see where it goes. I myself started with you on your first channel then followed you over to this channel.
+Robert Ballard im not complaining about the vids or content. i like the vids just fine. its just hes leaving money on the table, i just dont understand why. im not saying hes gotta be all about the money but if its there for you why not use it.
Another fantastic vlog! I told my husband we need to go to the Little White House. I love things like that! Thank you so much for letting us sit in the passenger seat on your travels!
Wished You could have visited the sights and sounds of North Georgia, but your trip to New Manchester was a gem unto it's self. Keep on Truckin Adam The Woo style!
The mud tunnels attached to the wood on the covered bridge? We called them dirt or mud dobber nest when we were children, like a wasp. They store food, like spiders & other insects for their babies to eat.
His Estate the " Summer White house" is located in Hyde Park New York . There's also a very big museum . The views are spectacular as the estate is situated on the Hudson River . If you head to upstate NY I highly recommend you stopping by .
The dirt tubes on the bridge are made by mud daubers, a form of wasp. The females bury spiders in the dirt along with her eggs. The eggs hatch and eat the spider before burrowing out.
I will retrace the steps of the woo. It's on my bucketlist, thx for leaving a documentary of cool places to visit in America we'd never know about. Cheers Adam 🤙
Thank you so much for your videos. Don’t know if I’ll ever get to the US, there’s so much to see, you’d need a few years to get around and see everything.
Those mud tubes on the covered bridge are made by Dirt/Mud Daubers a name commonly applied to a number of wasps from either the family Sphecidae or Crabronidae that build their nests from mud.
Even though I'm Canadian FDR is still my FAVOURITE human being in history. #2 Sir John A McDonald. Hard drinking, bare knuckle fighting father of confederation. He used to fist fight rival politicians outside parliament circa. 1850's, 60's. My kind of Canadian.
Adam, we just visited Senoia a couple of weeks ago. It is a really cool town. The "official Walking Dead store" actually has a small Museum including a jail cell from the season 3 set up in the basement for free viewing. The "Alexandria" filming location is also here but we were only able to view the outside walls of as the filming , of the current Walking Dead season, is still ongoing within the walls. It was a very cool visit. Have fun traveling through Georgia and be safe!!!
Of course I meant"Be safe traveling in Alabama" as you officially crossed the Chattahoochie river and are in my official elected home state....Have fun, lots of history here too....Jutta
Adam, none of your videos have ever disappointed me and this one definitely doesn't either. I love American history and this video is so interesting and full of information. I just wanted to say thank you for doing what you do. It is a pleasure to watch these.
The Waking Dead Café complete with siren going off and chainsaw...couldn't be better! The bridge was cool....I enjoy the history. Have a good day Adam!
You were wondering about the storm sirens going off... Most small towns (including the one I live in) tests the storm sirens once a week at a set time. Ours go off at 11:00AM every Monday.
Watched you leaving California to entering Alabama in the last few days and feel like I've been on a road trip. That's one tough van you got there. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
They usually do siren drills at noon on the first Wednesday of the month in tornado country, which is roughly 2/3rds of the country. The running chainsaw at the same time was a great timing.
Oh wow that's truly amazing you do all the things I love to see in American history movies places old gas stations old cute houses I love it Thankyou from Manchester UK 💜
Immensely appreciated the tour of the "Little White House"......HUGE FDR FAN....from 1997-2007, we lived just a couple miles from his home and burial spot in Hyde Park NY.......and even as a kid, growing up, my parents would bring us there, once a year or so.....truly is the "Graceland" of Dutchess County New York...........
Adam, I want to let you know that the Majestic has brought your videos to the next level. I have been watching daily for years and your doing a fantastic job.
