Keep up the great work, Adam! North Carolina has tons to see. Plenty of good food too. If you make it down that way, Lexington, NC has some excellent BBQ.

Adam, In honor and for the love of your vlog today, and because I love the Andy Griffith show. For my lunch break.. I will have an RC Cola and a Moonpie! Happy Friday ATW.. and everyone too! Awesome vlog today!
Like you, not normally one for guided tours, but that I would have also done. Could haven listened to his stories all day.... in a bit of a way he kind of looked like he could have been related to George Lindsay.... (there was just a hint of Goober in his face). That theatre reminds me of lot of the Lyric back home in Ark. I was one of the ones that worked to help restore it for our theatre group to use.... now it is the same... the screen rolls down for movies, and the stage is used for plays, musicals, concerts ect... kept the old candy counter at the concession stand, and redid the neon... these things need to be SAVED before they vanish! I loved this vlog.... Andy's show was just.... good, clean fun, always with a gentle lesson in morality. THANK YOU, ADAM!!!
Chang Noi No, I know George wasn't from Mount Airy..... He was from Jasper, Alabama. But, I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice the slight resemblance.
My husband and I got married right there at the desk by an Andy Griffith re-enactor last year (7/4/18) I found your page through the carpetbagger and ended up finding this episode. I LOVE that you recorded this visit. I live 25 miles from here. It’s so much fun.
Once there was a man named Fife, who carried a gun and a knife, his knife was all rusty, and his gun was dusty because he never caught a crook in his life.
I was there back in 2006 and I had to be there with some friends of mine and I didn't know where we were going till we got there but I had a ball looking around town and we had lunch at the Blue Bird cafe
Quite literally the Greatest Show of all time to be on T.V. I was watching a political panel discussion where they all disagreed on everything. But when someone mentioned Andy Griffith they all smiled and instantly became nice to each other and they all sgreed on this topic. Amazing.
My late brother was a big Andy Griffith fan and I'm so glad I got him and our mom up to Mount Mayberry. I've got pictures of him sitting at Andy's desk, and him in the jail cell. We also did the squad car tour with an old black gentleman who grew up with Andy. He was full of great information and it was a very memorable day.
The Andy Griffith Show is one of my fav old shows. Still watch it today...it's like comfort food. Also, loved Don Knots in "The Ghost of Mr. Chicken". Great vlog!
I'm an Aussie & back when I was a kid the Andy Griffith show was a MUST watch for the whole family! So this TV series would have had world wide acclaim I would think. I recently watched "A face in the Crowd" (It's here on Utube) and it shows just how great a serious actor Andy Griffith was, great movie. That Statue of Andy & Opie was cool!
I thoroughly enjoyed this vlog. I'm only 37, but I grew up watching the Andy Griffith show and even though I'm only 37 you wouldn't believe how many times I wish we could go back to simpler times like portrayed in the show!
Not quite 40 years old been, watching my entire life, never knew this town existed , will be visiting next time we drive south for sure! Excellent Vlog!
It's so cool to see this. I'm 20 and I actually didn't grow up watching (the re-runs of) this show, although I did grow up watching (the re-runs of) a lot of other older shows. But I work as an Activities Assistant at a rehab center for older folks, and we keep the TV on in the activity room on the TV Land channel and so it always has the older shows playing such as MASH, Golden Girls, Rosanne, and newer shows but that have already ended like Reba and Everybody Loves Raymond. Well one of the older shows that airs is 'The Andy Griffith Show', and since I started working at this place and have watched this show every weekend for the past 4 months, I've gotta say that I've become a fan of the show, so it was really cool that this video came up in my recommend videos. I also really love history, so I enjoy your channel and JustinScarred's channel a lot because you guys visit places and give a full history lesson of the place you're visiting, which is awesome! Thanks again for another very informative and entertaining video Adam!
Great video, Adam. I lived in Mount Airy for about 8 years back in the '70s. It wasn't as commercialized then.. just a sleepy town with a proud heritage. I also used to get my hair cut at "Mount Airy Barber Shop," the original name before it became "Floyd's." Later, I had my hair cut by one of the daughters of Emmett Forrest, a longtime friend of Andy's who was also the source for "Emmett's Fix It Shop." Emmett was very instrumental in setting up many of the AG museums. The reference to the use of granite in local construction stems from nearby Mount Airy Granite Quarry, which (unbeknownst to most people) is the world's largest open-faced granite quarry. The granite has been used for everything from the World War II Memorial in Washington, D.C. to the Arlington Memorial Bridge to the Wright Brothers Memorial in Kitty Hawk, NC. Everyone needs to visit "Mayberry" and have an RC and Moonpie at least once before they die. Gotta go now. I have this urge to go fishin'.
Been a fan of yours for quite some time. As the son of an Andy Griffith Show actress/character I am there yearly for Mayberry Days. Love the place, love the people and love the way you showed it. Thanks
Thanks for sharing Grew up watching Andy Taylor Been wanting to take a road trip to see his stuff and now I still want to go the scenery is so pretty Happy trails be safe
Adam, I've been a fan for years matter of fact when I have issues sleeping I usually put the Andy Griffin show on.. love this little town wow and maybe someday I'll get to see it :-) Thanks again God bless Keep On Keepin On and thank you for bringing so many smiles to so many of us..😎
That was a pretty cool vlog! The show is definately a classic. Even as you drove through Pilot Mtn there was a sign to the left of the street called "Mount Pilot Drugs". Enjoy your weekend bro!
Ol' Don's from my (og) neck of the woods. After all these yrs, they just got around to erecting a memorial statue in his honor on High St. last summer. I went to high school (& dancing school) w/his niece. Used to see his poor homeless rummy brother downtown. Always loved Andy, & freaky Floyd the Barber. One of my fave episodes is when Aunt Bee overdoes the health tonic & cuts loose on the piano. Show's still playing on one of our retro channels even today - indeed a classic. Cool u could document the town it was based upon. Roll on, Large Marge! Share that Americana!
Thanks Adam, coming from Ireland I've never seen the Andy Griffith show, just checked out that yt have got all the old episodes so guess thats my weekend sorted.
Great video!! I visited Mt Airy a couple of years ago, and visited the museum. Awesome place. Pilot Mtn State Park is a beautiful place. This past week on our way to go snow skiing in the mountains, we saw the Mayberry Sheriff car going down Interstate 74 near Winston Salem.
Awesome video! One of my favorite movies is A Face In The Crowd with Andy Griffith. Few people realize his range as an actor until they see the movie. Very powerful....thanks for sharing, Adam.
How did I miss this video? I decided to go back in time and watch some of your old videos, I missed this one, it’s so cool inside the courthouse and the tour in the police car was great stuff! Well done Adam 👍
My friend James Best sheriff on Dukes did two episodes of Andy Griffith, he was Jim Lindsay " The guitar Player" He still had the guitar from the show, I got to see it in person. So awesome. We did an appearance once with Maggie Peterson she played Charlene Darling on Andy Griffith. I remember having to call her at home because Sonny Shroyer took her cell phone home.
I am IN LOVE with this video ! My mom sister son aunts & mamaw came here right b4 my mamaw passed away. One sweet day I'll find myself here . I love this show & the history to it is just as amazing! Thank you!! You've got a new subscriber !
I cannot begin to describe how happy I am that you are exploring my beloved state! I've never actually been to Mt Airy and I've only been to Pilot Mountain once, so your videos made me want to visit those places. If you head east and you want an oddball place to go--check out the aloha safari zoo. It's a rescue zoo on a guy's farm so it's very old fashioned. You can buy stale bread and popcorn and feed almost all of their animals. It's in the middle of nowhere south of Raleigh. If you're near Asheboro (west of Raleigh), the NC zoo is the largest walk-through zoo in the world. It's not nearly as hands-on as Aloha Safari but it's much bigger. If you go west, there are a million things to do and see in the Asheville area, from the Biltmore House and the Grove Park Inn to the NC Arboretum and the WNC farmers market (it is drive-through). I hope you make it out to the outer banks. The southern ferry ride over to Ocracoke has to be scheduled in advance so if that's in your plans make sure to get a slot. It's a beautiful ride that's over an hour. I hope you stay for a few days! There is so much to do and see here, and you're likely to find little things that I've never seen before along the way.
You outdid yourself today Adam. Very good video. When I first started in law enforcement in 1974 our police dept. In Monroe, Louisiana had some of the older vehicles left. At times I drove a 69 Ford patrol car with a "gumball" light on top. I believe they kept one and restored it for parades. Brings back memories.
Awesome episode, Adam! I grew up watching the Andy Griffith Show, and I really love it to this day. You really do lead a charmed life. I love watching your adventures.
We love the video today. we have been watching re runs of the "Andy Griffin Show". your video was so wonderful to watch.then we went on Google Earth to see where you were exactly. great job.
That one pin on the map from southern MO was from the one and only Mitch Jayne who played the bass in the Daling's family band who went out there often for reunions. He lived in my town and was a the sweetest man ever.
Hello, I visited Mt. Airy about 2 years ago and while there I learned not only is it Mayberry but it is also the settlement for Chang and Eng the original Siamese twins that toured with Barnum and Bailey. They settled there, married and had numerous children.
Best vlog ever! I had to watch it twice. "A Face in the Crowd" is a great movie, very timely for today. After watching the movie you will never think of Andy Griffith the same. A great actor.
That was awesome! Brought back some dear memories of my Maw-Maw. The last few years of her life she watched Andy Griffith every day. She had dementia and we would talk about the show like it was real life and she would tell me what everyone was doing. Haircut looks great.
Great video. I have loved that show since I was a kid. It still holds up. I loved the tour in the police car. Now I have a craving for an RC and Moon Pie.
Well that was awesome. I think my little sister watched it when she came home from elementary school. Fun to see the statue of Ron Howard!!!! I thought you were getting better but you sound more congested!!!!! What a grand view!!! Got my WOO FIX for the day!!!!! Thanks Adam, whoop!!!!😀😀😀😀
Man, Adam...you're still killing it with the awesome videos. I never knew about the real life inspiration for Mayberry. Thanks for entertaining and informing, as usual! My grandfather was a huge fan of the show and this really brought a smile to my face today. Comment...over!
Had to search today with your new Vlog post. Figured you’d already done a video on the Real Mayberry. Loved the squad car tour. After spending all spring next to Disneyland... we have been about 100 miles away from Mt. Airy since May. Would love to go to Mayberry days, but not this year.
