I was an extra in this movie and even met Q’orianka Kilcher! I will never forget the experience. I am a proud Chickasaw. I look forward to showing my daughter this film and telling her about the tribe histories the right way.

I look forward to seeing it. Indigenous native american movies need to keep on showing, because people forget who they are and where they come from. If they can understand how important it is to us, then they could respect us more,themselves more. The world would be a better place. I live on the mountain country areas on a reservation. San Diego and all the waterways and oceans were our traditional territory, all the way out to and in the desert to ancient lake cahuilla. But now the new people and their yuppy ways are hard to stomach. Just watched the movie "Beans". Older more simple movie about a young girl growing up Mohawk in Canada in the 70s, simple movie, but I watch as many as I can from Fishhawk to Dance me Outside....Woman walks ahead is one of my most recent favorite, but I am a veteran so it had many meanings. Graham Greene movie....Last of his Tribe....a great one...hope you met Graham. I've met Adam Beach...cool 😎 cat.

Te Ata made waves in the early 1900s at a time when the Chickasaw nation was absorbed by Oklahoma. Its amazing how she lived a long full life until 1995. I am so happy they decided to share her story.

Loved the movie!!! It was so refreshing to see a non-fictional movie about Native Americans. Also, the music & storytelling was enlightening.

This movie told a story about a person I had never heard of. I love Q'orianka Kilcher so I watched it. It had some pretty typical dramatizations but overall it was pretty moving and aesthetic, acting was pretty good.

What's modern about this film , is the very freshness the actress brings to her role . The story line or script seems repetitive, however is her very performance and presence that brings something new to the table of native films. It serves as a catapult if you will of what the young actress will do next which is bigger , different, and lastly contemporary. Quorianka is quietly bringing the old indian in to modern house holds in a very cool charismatic way. That is the secret" to the formula. Lol. Applause. 👏

One of several well told truths all Americans (especially young children) need to be educated about. Hope to see more factual accounts with less Hollywood. The Native music and sounds of nature are orchestration enough. PEACE

I really wish that stories like this got told more, like, at all, ever. Gah, there is so much talk of racial inequality right now, yet Native Americans are never brought up as part of that conversation.

I think that there is a reason why the history of them is kept so quiet and rarely spoken of. I've heard one of them say that they are not really natives of the land and told where his people really come from. I think a treaty was made with the "natives" not to reveal their true identity to cover up something. America is built on lies and secrets.
@CondorSkyGhost

We are brought up as "indigenous people",should be more like the Natives of Hawaii to Alaska, The Northwest to the Southeast...the rest of the U.S. and all the other people who came here after are all radical extremists...but the indigenous tribes still live here, not asking for much as everyone else does......but having the extreme knowledge of being always from this land....from oceans, to forests, deserts and plains...

I love Q'orianka's work....but I feel she has done this type of role... twice... before..She's been typecast and that's a shame...She's very very talented and beautiful. I'd like to see her in something modern......still engaged in work for rights of native peoples...but bring her up to date.
@RapidObsessor
@RapidObsessor 6 лет назад
why typecast? she went from a hawaiian princess to an aspiring broadway actress?
@HolandaChiquita
@HolandaChiquita 6 лет назад
I agree she has played "Native" characters before, but to me they were all quite different. Maybe she is indeed type-casted for the way she looks, but it does fit her and she is telling compelling and important stories in these films. So I don't think it's a bad thing. Have you seen The Alienist? She acts amazingly in that. It's not a huge role, but she's absolutely phenomenal in it, and there is no mention of her being native in it...

I think it is her bringing little known people to the screen that otherwise wouldn't be known. She's playing stories a legit first nations actress needs to play vs white washing. So its a catch 22.

What native tribe is Q’orianka Kilcher?
@emmamacgregor731
@emmamacgregor731 6 лет назад
Imdb says: "Q'orianka translates to "golden eagle" in Quechua, the official language of the Inca Empire and an official language in Peru. Her Father is a Quechua-Huachipaeri, an native South American from Madre de Dios, Peru. Her mother is a Swiss national who grew up in Alaska. Mother is Saskia Genet-Oulicky. In 2004, at age 14, following an extensive international search, she was cast by writer/director Terrence Malick in The New World (2005) opposite Colin Farrell and Christian Bale and emerged into the front ranks of young actors with her portrayal of "Pocahontas". Younger brother, Kainoa Kilcher, had a bit part in The New World (2005). Popular singer Jewel Kilcher is her first cousin once removed. Jewel is first cousin of Saskia Genet-Oulicky, the mother of Q'orianka. Her grandfather, Ray "Pirate" Genet, was an Alaskan mountain-rescue and climbing legend who died in 1979 while making his descent from the summit of Mt. Everest. Older sister of Kainoa Kilcher and Xihuaru Kilcher.
