With the number of OP-1s you've (probably) sold (by being cool) Teenage Engineering should custom make you a pocket operator with a red button for record.
My friend just bought me this as a gift and it has already become my number one idea sketching tool. This video alone has given me even more ideas, to the point where I'm probably going to backup a bunch of 'sample packs' to my phone so that I can load up sets of instruments whenever I want. aaaaaaaaaa
I don’t need this or want this but after seeing this super cool video I’m going to buy it. Then use it for an hour and then put it with my other po’s that I didn’t need or want. All because Jeremy made me buy them. Damn you and your super cool videos...
If you want to free up some space and send a po or two to someone who say hasn’t got a synth but is super curious about them maybe that someone could work something out with you great is the world dot com
Your fantastic. Got this in the mail today, it’s my first pocket operator. I was playing with it and hoping there would be a tutorial online. Red means awesome videos you really enjoy watching.
Great into! The PO-33 KO! is an absolute beast! I’ve started making beats with it for my channel and have to say that the ease of sampling is unrivaled!
Your videos made me want to buy an OP-1, but that was too expensive for me. This is like a tiny OP-1, only affordable and easy to bring along.. I might want to buy this too. Damn you and your cool toys! :-)
I started out with the sub and factory, had tons of fun, then got arcade, those 3 are awesome, then I got speak and was scared of it because it's a bit more complicated than the other 3 but now I've got much better at them, and added robot, k.o. is next. Surely one of the greatest inventions of all time.
Been waiting for your take on the PO-33. Many months ago watching your PO-20 Arcade video at 2am while recovering from surgery made me impulsively buy it. 3 PO's later and im loving it. Now to save for the KO.
Thanks, I was actually searching all over youtube because I couldn't remember how to live record melodies. I just picked my PO33 back up again after a long hiatus. Peace
The Speak? I don't think so. No harder than the K.O. I actually found myself enjoying the Speak a little more off the bat. That said, as a sampler, the KO is really all about what you feed it and how you work with its limitations.
I purchased a PO-33 about 7 months ago. But a few days ago, for no apparent reason, it stopped turning on. I found him with a completely dead screen and couldn't resuscitate him. I did everything that is written on the manufacturer's website, but it did not give any results. I began to study this issue and it turned out that this is a common problem faced by po owners, it just stops turning on for no apparent reason. As far as I understand there is some error in the design or program. I wrote to the support service of teenage engineering, to which they replied to me that they could not replace my tool and could not repair it. They sent me a list of components so that I could order them and repair them myself. This is strange. Because absolutely nothing happened to PO, it just lay idle for a few days, and stopped working. If even the specialists of teenage engineering can't fix this flaw (judging by how often PO owners face this problem), why do they offer to fix it for me on their own? Then they stopped replying to my messages. I was very disappointed. I paid $ 90 for a piece that didn't even work for half a year. I was refused replacement, technical support, and no response at all. And the output sound of this thing is really shitty.
Dude, every time you post a video exploring new hardware (especially when it's Pocket Operators), I want to throw my wallet at them and just buy. I miss playing with sound. Having these, specially while I travel, would be so dope!
@@MasDouc I just bought a PO33 and spent 1 hour before making a fun little beat with my voice as a sample for one. I literally learned it all in an hour. It was so fun even if the beat stunk!
I know this is an old comment, but the thing with pocket operators is that they feel flimsy. I kind of bought one just for this reason but even with the additional protective case it feels risky to put into pocket, because the knobs are exposed. Im not aware if there are some alternative case to protect the knobs as well, but it just feels counter intuitive to have such a small and compact piece of hardware that you can take anywhere you go, yet theres a slight risk of the device being broken because it lacks the protective case. It seems very ideal for you to just be able to pull this thing out of jackets pocket while sitting on a bus or train, or such, yet the exposed knobs are in risk of taking some damage if you accidentaly manage bump into something since they are exposed.
@@GregAdamsEternal yup. Sampling straight off my phone via line in on the go, bus, work, train, .....insane! an MPC around my neck petty much haha. Look up Enrique Martinez Music. He has a data dump and slicing tutorial that'll help big time.
@Satanic Speed Metalhead just Clear that pattern or sound by holding REC and whatever patter/sound you're trying to clear. That's the only way to get ur full 40 second sample time, etc...
Nit at 1:35 ... you say it's playing patterns 9-12, but if you look at the LED screen, it's actually playing patterns 13-16. I often misread the button labels too, I think they should have put the labels above the buttons instead of below them.
Jesus Christ I'm so early. Hi Jeremy! ^~^ nice to hear your voice again. Also. Good job on your productivity levels. Let me know if you need any help, dude. Keep on rocking, Snowmew!
So clearing a pattern is forever? If you do a factory reset will every return? I read that reset it to the factory settings you hold the pattern and write buttons while inserting the batteries.
I just bought one of these secondhand from Ebay and your review is just SO useful in getting me started with using it properly. You obviously have a gift for going through the features of such a device in such an informative and yet succinct and lighthearted way, which is very much appreciated and rather refreshing. Many thanks and please keep up the good work.
I got a little lost at certain parts but this was still highly entertaining and informative. My Rick and Morty PO is coming in the mail tomorrow, I'm excited to see what I can make.
Excellent Jeremy. I’ve had mine a while and not got to grips with it until (finally yesterday) a 14 hour power outage, which left me little to be able to do. I followed up with tutorials like this today and now I feel like I’ve nearly grok-ed it. Cheers. Lee
I didn't like the lack of an on/off switch on my PO14 Sub, as it just sat there for ages and I mean...Ages! before it powered off. So I built myself a custom wooden case which included an on/off switch. Really easy to do. You just solder a small thin washer on either end of the switch wires and place them either side of a rubber washer, which all sits between one end of a battery in the po14's battery compartment and it's connector. Works a treat :O)
Back at it again. If you’re gonna make some songs can’t wait to see which PO configurations you jam with. Have you tried any new soundpacks with the Tonic?
I've just searched RU-vid and Soundcloud for playlists. Jakob Haq has some GREAT ones on his channel. Good sounds and the choke groups are well organized. My favorite is the 808 kit from Abstract Reality which can be found on Soundcloud. Batteries, Beats, and The Great Outdoors is another youtuber with some patches and of course Cuckoo. Cuckoo's are paid, but you also get an OP-1 patch as well as the wav and drum files. The patch i'm using now is from RU-vidr Bruno Kramm which is a "tonal" pack. 6 or 7 or the sounds can shift pitch and length basically so you can add color to drums or make melodies a little more easily.
hi buddy when yoy said to backup projects press the three bottons but where do you plugged into? a computer ? sofware? where do you can backup your projects? thanks.. good work floww...
Can you import your own samples into this? Im looking to buy one that I can use at work during breaks to make boom bap style beats with. I basically wanna load in my own samples, chop and sequence them to then load into my gear at home to mix etc. Also, do they have internal speakers? Great video btw 👌 OK, I've just got to your 4 polyphony limited and I've changed my mind on buying one 😂
I love my ko I sampled my voice and a coin drop on a chest of drawers and turned it into a beat lol it's a sick little sampler I may grab the tonic too or the speak
Compared to most (all, pretty much) of the iOS samplers out there, this looks both simple and practical to use. But I already have the 12, 14 and 16- do I need this too? Of course I do. Curse you.
I had my po-33 for a while now and got around to learning it after the semester finished, what a fun little thing, and big ups to theses guys for the great tuts to help the community newcomers learn. I wanted to ask if there is a way to get a more accurate out trim for a melodic sample when the B pot is almost entirely turned right wihtout exchanging and replacing the pots to avoid voiding the warranty? or is it best to go for replacing them with better ones for a more accurate and tolaerant set of pots? Thanks and happy beat making out there!
The BPM is not exact and 116 BPM is more like 116,5 BPM. When I combined an audio track from the PO33 with audio from a midi-sequencer, the tracks did not sync well and I had to slice up the OP33 track every now to make it stay in sync. Still a very fun and useful gadget, though! You even record each input with a unique volume/filter setting and create dynamic patterns.
These things are great, is there some sort of digital alternative to see if it would be used rather than just gather dust on receipt 😜 I should mess around with an app version first...
I come back to this vid every time I forget how to use my PO (being too depressed to touch music gear for a while) So, I just want to let you know I appreciate you, Jeremy. Obviously beyond just this vid. But since I'm here, I thought I'd just say I hope you're doing well.
Would this be useful at all as a one-shot sample trigger live? I play synth in a 3 piece and would like to record some samples to play back at gigs - not a sequenced pattern to play along to necessarily but just one-shot samples. Obviously the dinky size might not be ideal, but otherwise would this work? Seems perfect for the price
Great tutorial! one thing I didn't quite get is, you can only make one beat/song of 16 patterns and then you either back it up or write over it? Is that right? Also, every time you make a pattern or record a sound, you have to write over the factory patterns/sounds?
Which would you recommend...the KO or the Street Fighter? Are they the same besides sounds? I'm getting one of them in a week or so, but I'm not sure on the SF sounds.
Okay so when I break a sample up into a kit how do I manipulate the tone and effects on one particular button of that separated sample without it affecting the overall tone of the entire sample
Yeah turns out it changes the pitch of the sounds by itself and its frustrating because it makes it hard to get the sound I want sometimes. Any tip to fix this? Please.
I think I understand how to make patterns and how to sequence them, but how do you tell the PO-33 to play two patterns at the same time. You said it has 4 channels so it can play 4 sounds on the same step at once, but I don't quite understand how that is done. So if I have 1 pattern that has my drums, and then I wanted to layer melodic patterns over them, is there a way to do it other than using live record mode? And how do you edit a step once more than one sound is in it? Is it possible to remove all but the original drum sounds I sequenced in a pattern if I added melodic sounds on top of some of the steps?
